    Jason Dante

Jason Dante

Played By: Jason Spisak (English), Ryūsei Nakao (Japanese)

An old friend of Nate's, with connections to Sully, and a fellow treasure-hunter, but unlike Nate, he has no particular appreciation for history, just the money. His mouth gets him into and out of trouble all the time.

  • Deadpan Snarker: He's no slouch when it comes to snapping off quips, though he tends to be more mean-spirited than Nate.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: He actually thinks that Chase is simply using him and Nate as pawns and once the two had dealt with each other, she will walk away with all the gold. Chase quickly corrects Dante and points out that she is nothing like him.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: He starts out on Nate's side, but betrays him and Marisa to Guerro. After he and Guerro fall out, he teams up with the heroes again, only to betray then once more when they find Quivira.
  • It's Personal: Pissed off over Guerro's betrayal, Dante tries to get even by hiring his own army.
  • Jerkass: Yep; see Only in It for the Money, but he also makes a lot of mean-spirited jokes toward other characters, even the dead.
  • Left for Dead: After Nate defeats him, Dante is left behind inside the treasure vault and is killed after Chase detonates the cavern.
  • Motor Mouth: He is extremely talkative, much to the annoyance of other characters, namely General Guerro.
  • My God, You Are Serious!: Played with. After Guerro betrayed him, Dante brags that he will buy an army to get back at the general. Nate thinks he is only joking but a few chapters later, he realizes that Dante is telling the truth.
  • Never My Fault: One of the reasons why neither Guerro nor Chase trusts him is because he is a complete slimeball who either steals or badmouths his partner. Of course, Dante doesn't see it as his fault and tries to get even with whoever who betrays him.
  • Obviously Evil: Downplayed; "obviously untrustworthy." Almost from the moment he opens his mouth, it's clear he's not on the level, and Chase tells Nate right after they meet that Dante's bound to try and cut both her and Nate out of the deal.
  • Only in It for the Money: As mentioned above, and he doesn't care who he hurts to get it. He'll even flood the black market with radioactive gold just to line his own pockets.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Dante hires an army of mercenaries to get back at Guerro for almost killing him.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Downplayed. Dante thinks he is such a big shot and that Guerro's reason for betraying him is because of his connections while everyone sees him as nothing more than a small-time thief. Despite this, it turns out he really does has connections and even has enough money to hire an army of well-equipped mercenaries. Only Sully is vary of how dangerous Dante can be if money is involved.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Anytime Nate has to team up with Dante (especially after the latter was betrayed by Guerro), the two show their distaste for each other.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: After his boss battle, Dante mocks Chase for letting everyone do the heavy lifting for her and Nate for his morality and for always leaving empty handed.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Dante insults Guerro when the warlord is only a few feet away from him.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Another of Nate's many friends who become his enemies.

    Marisa Chase

Marisa Chase

Played By: Christine Lakin (English), Saori Seto (Japanese)

The granddaughter of archaeologist Vincent Perez. After the death of her grandfather, Marisa has been attempting to carry on his research where he left off, aided by a gold amulet that he gave her that is somehow linked to Quivira.

  • Almost Kiss: She and Nate almost kiss at the end of Golden Abyss but are interrupted by Sully.
  • Berserk Button: Two things; never talk bad about her grandfather in anyway, and never call her Marisa.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Bordering on Too Dumb to Live. Chase frequently insults the antagonists, never once thinking that they might shoot and kill her. At least Nate and the other characters are not afraid to hold a gun.
  • Damsel in Distress: Needs saving a lot more often than the other Uncharted girls. Justified in that she's a lot younger than the other girls, and she's clearly had little to no fighting experience before.
  • Doesn't Like Guns: Marisa is pretty adamant about not wanting to use firearms throughout the game, which is how she ends up in a lot of her binds that Nate has to bail her out from. By the end she gets over it, though.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": She doesn't like it when Nate calls her by her first name. The only person she allowed to call her Marisa is her grandfather. At the end, she lets Sully call her by that name, saying he reminds her of her grandfather.
  • Faux Action Girl: Unlike Elena and Chloe, Chase is not really Action Girl and has to be rescued plenty of times in the game. She eventually starts to pull her weight near the end of the game before requiring saving again.
  • Gut Feeling: Chase knows to not trust Dante, but also twigs that Nate's a genuinely good guy just minutes after meeting him. It's safe to say she's a good judge of character despite being anxious to trust people right from the start.
  • Hypocrite: When confronted by Dante after they escaped from Guerro's base, Chase tells Nate to not act reckless and do what Dante says, but when Dante mentions his deal with Guerro, Chase gets seriously angry at him for stealing from her grandfather and pushes him off the bridge. To be fair, she's shocked at her own actions immediately afterward.
  • Instant Expert: Averted for the most part. While Chase is a really good shot for someone who has never used a gun before, it's clearly down to the Rule of Drama.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Probably Chase's biggest flaw. Though she spends a lot of time with her grandfather regarding the culture of the Quivira, she lacks the knowledge to help out Nate even when two obvious clues are right in front of her and she only realizes after Nate pointed them out.
  • The Load: Aside that she needs to be saved for more than 3/4 of the game, she doesn't help out Nate during a fight until near the end of the game when she decides to start pulling her own weight.
  • Memento MacGuffin: The golden amulet Chase was given by her grandfather. Played with as it was always linked with his research.
  • Nice Girl: She's really quite personable and has a good rapport with Nate, though she can hold her own in Snark-to-Snark Combat; furthermore, her whole reason for going on the quest is to finish her beloved grandfather's work, and she doesn't hesitate to call Dante and Guerro out in their less-than-stellar moments.
  • Raised by Grandparents: Her parents died when she was very young and she was raised by her grandfather ever since.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Her whereabouts after the game are unknown. Her name was mentioned on a sticky pad in the fourth game however.

    Roberto Guerro

Roberto Guerro

Played By: JB Blanc (English), Yasuhiro Mamiya (Japanese)

The main antagonist of Golden Abyss. An ex-military dictator from Panama, he was overthrown in a coup and, although he planned to fight back, ended up short on funds to fight the new regime. When an interested archaeologist approaches him to do some digging for a fabled city of gold, he permits it, thinking that if it is a success, he can simply take the riches for himself to finance his counter-revolution.

  • Bad Boss: Guerro's Establishing Character Moment is throwing one of his own men over a railing for failing to fix an elevator.
  • Berserk Button: Calling him a coward is sure to piss him off.
  • Big Bad: Of Golden Abyss.
  • Cool Sword: Guerro uses the Sword of Stephan to fight Nate during his boss fight.
  • Disney Villain Death: Nate tricks Guerro into stepping onto a burning bridge that eventually collapses, sending the former warlord falling to his doom.
  • The Dreaded: According to Nate, even deaf children all over Panama know how dangerous Guerro is.
  • Expy: Of Zoran Lazarevic from Among Thieves. Both are cold-blooded and ruthless war criminals who have no problem with executing their own subordinates and innocent civilians.
  • Faux Affably Evil: His manner of speech is harsh-but-cordial, speaking fairly eloquently but inciting fear with every word. He even tries to assure Chase that he's an honorable man literally immediately before doing the exact opposite of what he said (see I Lied).
  • Final Boss: Of Golden Abyss.
  • General Failure: Because he doesn't handle his finance properly, Guerro's army lacks proper training and equipment. In addition, his entire strategy for fighting Nate involves throwing soldiers at him without any sort of strategy.
  • The Generalissimo: Though, as frequently pointed out, he's no longer a general. Fits every other attribute to a tee, though (and at one time he also had the leadership thing going for him too).
  • I Lied: Chase agrees to help him decode some symbols in exchange for sparing Nate. However right before doing his Villain: Exit, Stage Left, he blows up the cavern anyway. Noteworthy in that he does this literally on the very next line he speaks after saying you can always trust a soldier.
  • Villainous Breakdown: At the end of the game, Guerro has lost all his men to Drake and Dante's mercenaries. Wanting to die a warrior's death, he makes one final attempt to kill Drake and Chase for ruining his plans.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Among the collectibles found around his base is an emerald brooch belonging to a young girl.

    Vincent Perez

Vincent Perez

Played By: Robin Atkin Downes (English)

Marisa Chase's grandfather. An archaeologist interested in the Seven Cities of Gold, of which he believes he found a lead to in Guerro's territory. He had partnered with Jason Dante to search for Quivira.

  • Adventurer Archaeologist: Unlike Nate, he's the genuine article, truly interested in uncovering the lost past to share with the world. Chase follows in his footsteps.
  • Artifact of Doom: It is implied that the irradiated medallion he had been holding for years is the source of his cancer.
  • Incurable Cough of Death: Was diagnosed with terminal cancer a year before the events of the game.
  • Posthumous Character: Although you don't learn this until Chapter 16.
