Jongpa, or White Force, refers to the orthodox martial art guilds that consider themselves "righteous", although their actual righteousness tend to vary between guilds. Generally, they uphold the traditional principles of martial art such as chivalry, brotherhood and heroism.

     Five Greats/Thiên Hạ Ngũ Tuyệt 
Five powerful martial artists who act as the leaders of Jongpa, or White Force, the righteous martial art sects. 20 years agon, they banded together to fight Sword Demon and defeated him. They are: Sword Emperor, Blade God, Guegue, Shin-Gong and Yahk-Sun. From these five, Sword Emperor is said to be the strongest.

Sword Emperor/Kiếm Vương

Real name Dam Sin Woo/Đàm Thân Du, he is the strongest of the Five Greats and the leading figure of Jongpa. He used to be the leader of Hyonmu Guild, the most powerful guild of Jongpa but chose to disband it to stay out of Murim's politics. He created Jang Baek Sword Style and taught it to his niece Dam Hwa Rin and his student Yu Se Ha. He left Murim two years before the story starts to guard the entrance to Sinji and prevent Sinji force from entering Murim en masse.

Blade God/Đao Đế

Real name Mun Jeong Hu/Văn Tinh Hào, he is the founder of Haksan Guild and considered the best blade (or sabre) user of the world. He met Han Bi Kwang by chance and taught him the basic of martial arts.. He is the teacher of Jin Phe Wun, one of the Six Dragon Gods.

  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He easily flies into a rage, usually at the mention of Cheon Ma Sin Gun.
  • Large and in Charge: One head taller than Han Bi Kwang and one of the leading figures of Jongpa.

  • Oh, Crap!: His reaction after finding out he has been training Cheon Ma Sin Gun's disciple.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: After discovering his identity, he remained friendly with Kwang and even offered to take him as a disciple. When he refused, he complimented Kwang on his courage and even covered his track as he escaped from Jongpa territory.

Guegue/Quái Cái

Real name Beak Li Sau/Bạch Lợi Sư Hữu. He used to be the leader of Samda Guild, the second most powerful guild of Jongpa after Sword Emperor's Hyonmu Guild. When Cheon Ma Sin Gun established Black Wind Order, he led his guild to war with Black Wind Order but was soundly defeated. Facing impending destruction, he surrendered and offered his guild to Black Wind Order in exchange for his family and surbodinates's life. To atone for this shame, he left his guild and travelled the Murim as a beggar. He met Han Bi Kwang at Jang Baek Mountain and taught him hand-to-hand combat and Ki sensing. He was killed by Sinji's agents after passing his martial arts to Kwang. His specialty is hand-to-hand combat.

Yahk-Sun/Dược Tiên

Real name Cheon Yu Hyeon/Thiên Lưu Hiên. He is the former master of Byuk Poong Guild and grandfather of Chun Oon-ak, one of the Six Dragon Gods. Noted for his extraordinary skills in medicine.

     Six Dragon Gods/Lục Đại Thần Long 
Six young martial artists who have the potential to replace the Five Greats as the new leaders of Jongpa. Four of them have been revealed: Chun Oon-ak, Lee Hwa, Jin Phe Wun and Ma Chun Hwi.

The young master of Byuk Poong Guild and grandson of Yahk-Sun, one of the Five Greats. Vain, arrogant and incredibly self-centered, he thinks he is the most handsome man of the world and often says it out lound, to the dismay of his surbodinates. He challenged Han Bi Kwang to a fight that could serve as the catalyst of a new Jongpa-Sapa war. Has become some sort of a joke In-Universe.

He is Blade God's disciple and Dam Hwa Rin's childhood friend. He tried to bring Han Bi Kwang to justice but after discovering Kwang's heroic nature he decided to help him.

  • Big Anime Eyes: Get this when listening to Han Bi Kwang's rant about how awesome blade is compared to other weapons.
  • Blade Lock: Many times.
  • Childhood Marriage Promise: He thought he had one with Dam Hwa Rin. He frequently lost to her in sparring and vowed to defeat her one day. Dam Hwa Rin promised to marry him if he defeated her. He has hold on to this ever since while she didn't even remember.
  • Killing Intent: Emitting such powerful killing intent Han Bi Kwang was frozen in terror.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: He prepared to kill Han Bi Kwang when he was unconscious to prevent him from becoming a menace to Jongpa, given his incredible power. Dam Hwa Rin talked him out of this.
  • Nice Guy
  • Oblivious to Love: He doesn't know that Lee Hwa has feeling for him, until it's (almost) too late. To be fair to him, she didn't do a good job expressing her emotion.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Had to work with Han Bi Kwang to fight Hyol Roe.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: As a prominent Jongpa warrior, he has the duty to kill Han Bi Kwang for being Cheon Ma Sin Gun's disciple. But after witnessing Kwang's valiant effort against Hyol Roe, he decided to save him.
  • Worthy Opponent: To Han Bi Kwang.

Lee Hwa/Y Hoa

The heiress of Yonbi Family and so far the only female member of Six Dragon Gods. She has a crush on Jin Phe Wun.

  • Anguished Declaration of Love: She confessed her feeling to Jin Phe Wun before making a suicidal attack against Hyol Roe so her lover can escape.
  • Betty and Veronica: The Betty to Dam Hwa Rin's Veronica.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Hers is tied up and much shorter compared to other females in the manhwa.
  • Caught in the Rain: She first met Jin Phe Wun as a kid when they both took shelter in a cave from a heavy rain. The cave turned out to be a bear cave and when the beast returned and threatened them Wun stood up and chased it away. She started having feeling for him ever since.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Jin Phe Wun.
  • Dual Wielding: Her twin swords.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She attacked Hyol Roe, knowing very well that she's no match for him, to create an opening for Jin Phe Wun to escape and nearly got killed by Roe's counterattack.
  • Last Girl Wins: She met Wun after Dam Hwa Rin and ends up with him.

Ma Chun Hwi/Mã Thiên Huy

Known as "Quicksword", he is the the young master of Chong Kyong Guild and the latest member of Six Dragon Gods to appear in the manhwa. He met Han Bi Kwang at Anbi Province where Kwang tried to gain information about Sinji's location and fought with Sinji's operatives. As his nickname implies, he is famous for his swordplay.

  • Iaijutsu Practitioner: Draw his sword and cut a bandit's blade into pieces so fast nobody notices anything until the blade falls off.

  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: When he teamed up with Han Bi Kwang to fight Ui Zihun, Zihun threatened to tell the Murim that one of Six Dragon Gods conspired with Cheon Ma Sin Gun'a disciple, Hwi angrily pointed out that although Han Bi Kwang is from Sapa he was trying to protect civilians while Ui Zihun used underhand tactics that killed many innocent bystanders and he'd rather help Kwang than team up with trash like Ui Zihun.

     Song Mu Guild/Tống Võ Môn 
One of the largest Jongpa Guild, located at the southern side of Murim, in province Jungwon. Their headquarter is in the trading town Hwajon, which the guild have managed for the last 300 years. Song Mu Guild often serves as the bulwark against Black Wind Order. 10 years ago, Song Mu Guild stopped Black Wind Order's invasion against Jongpa, albeit with heavy casualties. The guild has started to recover under the leadership of the new master Yu Won-Chan.

Yu Won-Chan/Lưu Viên Tán

The young master of Song Mu Guild. He is determined to restore Song Mu Guild to its former glory before the clash with Black Wind Order. He appears early in the manhwa, plotting to take Ma Ryong Sword from Dam Hwa Rin. His action kickstarts the events of the manhwa. Since then he has grown into one of Han Bi Kwang's toughest foes and most trusted allies.

  • Character Development: From an insecure, selfish and reckless wannabe to a honorable, confident and righteous martial artist and one of the pillars of Jongpa.

  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: After he became an adult and the new master of Song Mu Guild, the council of elders still treats him like a child and doesn't give much consideration to his demand. The underlings in Song Mu Guild respect the elders way more than him. Most his reprehensible actions is to reassert his authority and prove himself worthy of his title as master.

  • Freudian Excuse: Yu Won-Chan's father died fighting Black Wind Order and told Elder Kwon to take care of his son. Elder Kwon formed the council of elders to manage Song Mu Guild, leaving Chan on the sideline so he couldn't be put in harm's way. Feeling betrayed and left out, Yu Won-chan became increasingly reckless and domineering.
  • How Much More Can He Take?: His second fight with Han Bi Kwang devolved into this, with both guys tried to outlast each other.
  • Jerkass: At first, until his Character Development.

  • Kick the Dog: Blinded Hyun Woo's remaining eye after he insulted him.
  • I Gave My Word: He promised to give Kwang and Rin hospitality in his territory. When his brother imprisoned them, he personally rescued them out, knowing full well the consequence.
  • It's All About Me: He only cared about his goal and his authority in Song Mu Guild. His Character Development removes this.
  • Oh, Crap!: When he realizes Cheon Ma Sin Gun is unharmed after his sneak attack and about to kill him.
  • The Reveal: He wants Ma Ryong Sword to find out about the Immortal Body, said to be hidden in Sinji.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He ordered Jongpa forces to stand aside and let Black Wind Order pass through Jongpa's territory to help Han Bi Kwang.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: He let Han Bi Kwang go into his territory unharmed so he can defeat Kwang himself.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After losing to Han Bi Kwang for the first time, he started training with Demon Face Armor to increase his inner energy and grew strong enough to fight Kwang to a standstill the second time they met.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: At first, he had no qualm sending his lackeys to their death, betraying his hired gun, collaborating with Sapa guild and using forbidden weapon to achieve his goal. After losing to Han Bi Kwang, he became much kinder and honorable, treating Kwang and Hwa Rin's wounds after the clash with Jin Pung Baek and forgiving his brother after he committed treason. He even gave Dam Hwa Rin the Demon Face Armour, Song Mu Guild's most valuable treasure, to help with her training.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: He used to be cheerful, kind and energetic. After the death of his father, he became bitter and disillusioned.
  • Worthy Opponent: with Han Bi Kwang.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Song Mu Guild.
  • 0% Approval Rating: His reputation is already damaged after various misdeeds and the lost to Han Bi Kwang, he then shut himself in training to get revenge on Kwang and neglected Song Mu Guild's operations. When his brother arrived in town, his subordinates are ready to remove him and install his brother as new master.

Yu Seung Bin/Lưu Thăng Bình

Yu Won-Chan's younger brother. He tried to usurp his brother and became the new master of Song Mu Guild but failed. He later reconciled with his brother.

  • Berserk Button: Don't call him "Monkey Face".
  • Despair Event Horizon: After seeing the arrival of Black Wind Order, he remembered the battle 10 years ago and freaked out, frantically ordered a retreat and refused to fight.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: After humiliating Han Bi Kwang, he believed that if Cheon Ma Sing Gun's disciples are only at this level then he could take them all at once. Oh boy.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: He genuinely wants to rebuild Song Mu Guild, even if it means fighting his own brother.
  • It Amused Me: His first action in the manhwa is trying to bully Kwang and Rin because he was bored on the way home.
  • Master Swordsman: A decent enough martial artist, though not on his brother's level.

  • Wake-Up Call Boss: The first man to defeat Han Bi Kwang properly and makes him realize that his luck will eventually run out unless he starts training seriously.

Kwon Dong Hee/Quang Đông Hưng

One of the elders of Song Mu Guild and one of the few who survived the clash against Black Wind Order 10 years ago. He was entrusted by the previous master to take care of Yu Won-chan.

     Jang Baek Mountain/Trường Bạch Sơn 
Called "The Heart of Jongpa", Jang Baek Mountain is not a martial art sect per se, but a collection of villages surrounded Jang Baek Mountain, formed by the followers and admirers of Sword Emperor after he retreated from Murim. At the top of the mountain stand the Hall of Sword where aspiring swordsmen can come and study the arts of Sword Emperor under the tutelage of his former comrades. There is also a cave system where Sword Emperor used to practice his martial arts and hided a certain secret regarding Sinji.

Eun Seo Woo/Ân Tích Ngưu

The head instructor of Hall of Sword and Sword Emperor's most trusted follower, Eun Seo Woo is in charge of Jang Baek Mountain when Sword Emperor is absent. Stern, calm, highly intelligent and fiercely loyal, he is nonetheless a compassionate individual and wholeheartedly follows the cause of justice. Dam Hwa Rin admired him and considered him her family.

  • All According to Plan: He made a battle plan for the traitors, taken into account the combatants' ability. The traitors, not knowing any better, followed his plan to the letter. It worked out perfectly...in his favor. The plan is perfect for surrounding and killing a single target but completely useless against ranged attack from outside, which he brought Me Yujin with him for that purpose.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership
  • Batman Gambit: Pull an epic one in Treachery at Jang Baek Mountain arc. Realized that Wang-un has betrayed Sword Emperor to join Sinji and he is now surrounded by enemies, he pretended to go along with their plan in exchange for the position as master of Jang Baek Mountain. Then, he captured Me Yujin and brought her with him, stabbed Han Bi Kwang at a non-fatal spot so he could recover, made battle plan for the traitors in such a way that when the time came, Me Yujin could gun them down with impunity. All while acting as a typical power hungry maniac.
  • The Fettered
  • Master Swordsman: His skill is said to be second only to Sword Emperor.
  • Nerves of Steel: He managed to keep his cool when Guege was murdered and turned the table on the traitors.
  • Secret Test of Character: Uncertain of Han Bi Kwang's feeling for Dam Hwa Rin, he offered him a chance to run and leave Dam Hwa Rin, if Kwang valued his life over Rin's safety and fled, he would execute him on the spot. Kwang passed the test with flying colors.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Had to collaborate with Black Wind Order to save Dam Hwa Rin from Sinji.
  • The Smart Guy: He instantly remembered the name of 50 warriors and made plan based on their abilities.

Yu Se Ha/Lưu Tư

Sword Emperor's disciple and Dam Hwa Rin's childhood friend. Sword Emperor tasked him with retrieving a martial art manual (actually Sword Demon's techniques) but he got curious and studied it. Bad idea. He developed a bloodthirsty alter ego called "Ma Gum Rang" and started killing indiscriminately, causing widespread panic in the Murim. He was horrified at the destruction he caused and fled to a remote village, hoping to start a new life as a teacher. Sinji's agents caught up with him and forced him to awakened his demonic power again. Later, he appeared at Anbin Province as an amnesiac wanderer with the mind of a child. Again, he got caught between Sinji's forces and Han Bi Kwang and was captured and brought back to Sinji. His current whereabouts is unknown.At his normal state, he is polite, compassionate and a bit of wimp.

  • Disney Death: Jumped off a cliff after remembering he lost control and slipped back to Ma Gum Rang. He survived.
  • The Dreaded: The carnage he caused as Ma Gum Rang is so epic his reputation can be compared with Sword Demon.
  • Handicapped Badass: Losing an arm doesn't make him any less dangerous.

  • Superpowered Evil Side: The fate of everyone who learns Sword Demon's techniques. His is called "Ma Gum Rang", a violent Blood Knight who craves only bloodshed.

    • He left his past behind and settled at a remote village and started a new life as a teacher, earning the admiration and respect from the villagers. Then, Sinji's agents arrived in pursuit of Ma Ryong Sword, killed many innocent people and threatened Dam Hwa Rin and Han Bi Kwang's life, forcing him to use Ma Ryong Sword and awakened his alter ego. After regained his consciousness, he is so ashamed of losing control he jumped off a cliff to his apparent demise.
    • He appeared much later at Anbin Province as a mindless wanderer. A prostitute took care of him and wanted him to remain by her side. It seems that he could live a happy life even though he lost his memory. Then again, he was caught between Han Bi Kwang and Sinji's agents, lost control again right after regained his memory, was defeated and taken back to Sinji by Zhong Li.
    • He was captured by the Masked Man and used as hostage. He then vanished without a trace from his prison.

Wang-un

Eun Seo Woo's subordinate. He joined Sinji and betrayed Sword Emperor. His most notable act is killing Guege.

Tropes associated with Wang-un

  • Didn't Think This Through: He willingly gave the list of traitors to the man he just betrayed and let him make a battle plan for them. What can go wrong?
  • Insane Troll Logic: Wang-un and his cohorts willingly followed Sword Emperor to Jang Baek Mountain after he disbanded Hyonmu Guild. Now they blame him for making them stay in this remote mountain and their talents go to waste.
  • Out-Gambitted: Wang-un killed Guege in front of Eun Seo Woo and offered him a chance to join Sinji and become the new master of Jang Baek Mountain. If he refused, Wang-un and his cohorts will killed him and framed him as the culprit for the death of Guege, Han Bi Kwang and Co. Eun quickly regained the upper hand by explaining that if Hwa Rin is gone, then he is the de facto leader of Jang Baek Mountain and didn't need Sinji's assistance. Unable to convince him otherwise and afraid of his skills, Wang-un shifted control to Eun Seo Woo. Woo then tricked Wang-un into revealing the list of traitors in Jang Baek Mountain, made a battle plan that would make them easy targets for Me Yujin in order to get rid of Sinji's influence in Jang Baek Mountain in one fell swoop.

Kwan Jun Hyong

An elder of Hwan Young Guild who was exiled and sentenced to death by the guild for unknown reason. Sword Emperor saved his life and allowed him to stay in the cave of Jang Baek Mountain. He assisted Sword Emperor and Guege in gathering information about Sinji and their operations in Murim. Like all member of Hwan Young Guild, he is covered in bandages to hide his scars.
