some caption text
The lawyer's assistant. He utterly loathes his job, though he's not much better off now that his boss is dead.
  • Absurdly Dedicated Worker: He has to be, lest he get fired and end up broke, homeless, and starving. This ends up being for nothing, as his boss gets murdered, leaving him in the worst possible situation despite his hard work.
  • All for Nothing: Him desperately trying to appease his Mean Boss ends up being moot as his boss dies, leaving him unemployed.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: He's a good assistant, though E. Vil treats him with nothing but scorn. The feeling's mutual.
  • Big "WHAT?!": He has one when Dregg reveals, the killer is still in the room.
  • Blatant Lies: He did not clain that Eren was as heavy as the barrel he carried in for him. Just kidding, he totally did.
  • Chekhov's Gun: He brings in two of these.
    • He brings in the barrel of wine that the lawyer wishes to celebrate with. This is actually where Eva was hiding in wait.
    • He also ordered the statues and confirmed the proof of purchase on the night of his boss' death. Eva uses one of the statues to hide in after killing Vil, getting caught because of her sloppy hiding effort.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: He's got green hair and green eyes, though his eyes are a far lighter shade.
  • Fallen-on-Hard-Times Job: He works for E. Vil due to not having anywhere else to go. He's desperate for a raise, being kicked out of the mansion for even asking for one. Despite his hatred of his job and boss, he's upset with his death because it leaves him unemployed.
  • Flowery Insult: He has a strange and memorable one for Eren.
    Assistant You cheap monkey poop.
  • Foreshadowing: He mentions how heavy the wine barrel is. This gives a hint that someone was hiding in it.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: He has a scar on his face, and is a Nice Guy, even if he's a little rough around the edges.
  • It's All About Me: A rare sympathetic example. He's more concerned about himself and what he will do now than the fact his boss was murdered. Because of the fact he could be homeless or starve if he can't acquire gainful employment, this is a perfectly reasonable view to hold.
  • Jerk Ass To One: To his boss. Considering what a Jerkass Erin is, it's easy to understand this.
  • Nice Guy: If you treat him respectfully, he'll treat you respectfully. If you treat him like crap, he'll call you cheap monkey poop. He prefers to treat people in the former way.
  • No Name Given: He's only known as assistant.
  • Saying Too Much: He confides in Dregg he sometimes dreamt of killing his boss. This is an incredibly stupid thing to say when under investigation, as Dregg points out.
  • Servile Snarker: He slips a good one in near the beginning of the game.
Assistant Phew, this is one heavy barrel. As heavy as the lawyer, I might add.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: He's a highly intelligent man who has glasses.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: He accidentaly brought in the barrel that Eva was hiding in. She then proceeded to kill his boss.

    Eren Vil

A lawyer who is a massive jerk. He dies and everyone is happy until they realise they still have to solve his murder.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: To Eva. he's an awful excuse for a human being, but she's a spy and Professional Killer who is a massive threat to the entire kingdom.
  • Amoral Attorney: He's a lawyer who uses his legal knowledge to exploit the vunerable at the cost of people's wellbeing.
  • Asshole Victim: Absolutely nobody is upset when he's killed off.
  • Bad Boss: He treats his assistant like dirt, insulting and berating him without hesitation.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: He once almost broke a dog's leg because they went onto his lawn.
  • Bullying a Dragon: He does this to Eva. She makes short work of him for this.
  • Dirty Coward: He tries to get out of his deal with Eva when things get too much for him to handle, showing he only cares about saving his own skin. Though considering what Eva wanted him to do, it's almost understandable.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Beating a dog for trespassing on your lawn is an incredibly large overreaction.
  • Embodiment of Vice: Greed. He's eager to make more money, hedonistic to a fault, and uncaring about how he accumulates his wealth.
  • Evil Lawyer Joke: He's a lawyer and an amoral bastard to the core.
  • Evil Plan: A rather cruel one.
    • He wished to adopt a child who was the bastard son of a respected citizen of Rightia. After signing the adoption papers, he would inherit the boy's fortune, spend it, then discard of him once he was no longer useful, no longer having to look after a child and getting a large sum of money.
  • Fat Bastard: He's stated to be overweight, and is a thoroughly unlikable person.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: He has glasses and no humanity or redeeming features whatsoever.
  • Greed: What drives all his actions. He'll make a profit, no matter what.
  • Hated by All: Nobody likes him in the slighest. His assistant can't stand him, Dregg's hesitant to even find his killer, and even the priest is glad he's dead.
  • Hate Sink: He's a vile and unpleasant individual who is such a scumbag that you'll be rooting for him to kick the bucket.
  • Jerkass: He belittles and abuses everyone around him, and is hated by everyone who knows him because of this.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: He dies trying to beg for his life.
    Lawyer Eep. Someone help m—-
  • Mean Boss: He's a prick to his assistant, and is fortunately killed before he can hire 100 workers that he'll likely also abuse.
  • Meaningful Name: Evil. He's not the vilest person around, though he's one of the most hateable.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: He tries to worm his way out of an important deal with Eva by bribing her. She responds by slaughtering him.
  • The Scrooge: He's obscenely wealthy but won't even give his hardworking assistant a raise.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Antagonising the most dangerous woman in the world is an incredibly stupid idea. He learns this the hard way.

    Neighbor
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2021_11_21_95447_pm.png
some caption text
A neighbor of the victim. She is known for being very nosy.
  • Accidental Hero: Her nosiness trapped Eva inside the mansion, causing her to be discovered the next day. If she wasn't being so paranoid, the lawyer's killer would have easily fled.
  • Big "WHAT?!": She has one when Dregg reveals, the killer is still in the room.
  • Cranky Neighbor: She's Eren's neighbor and a grumpy person to him and anyone else she encounters. Though the reason she's so on edge is because Eren attacked her job a little while ago.
  • The Ditz: She's the slowest out of the three witnesses, misinterpriting the events of last night and inadvertedly misdirecting the investigators. While she does provide some imporant information, it's completely by accident and she doesn't realise the importance of it until Dregg explains it to her.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Her eyes don't open during her dialogue with Dregg.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: She is rather irritable, snapping at people over almost anything. This can be understood considering the stressful situation she's found herself in.
  • Jerkass: She's belligerant and uncooperative, being nothing but irritating when Dregg starts talking to her. While she does provide some vital information, her unpleasant personality never fades.
  • Nervous Wreck: She's the most anxious out of the three witnesses, being the worst out of the three at coping with the situation.
  • No Name Given: She's only known as neighbor.
  • Nosy Neighbor: She spies on Vil due to an incident in the past. She's apparently lacking in subtlety, as he can easily see her spying on him.
  • Properly Paranoid: She's constantly spying on Vil because he once broke her dog's leg for going onto her lawn. She's looking out for the safety of her family by making sure he never tries to do something like that again.
  • Red Herring: Her witness statement is deeply flawed and she has no alibi, but she is being honest, even if she misremembered the incidents of the night. The real killer is Eva, who was hiding as a statue the entire time.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She's the only female witness in the first game.
  • Spanner in the Works: She saw a priest entering Vil's house on the night of the murder. Said priest was actually Eva in disguise. Because of this, the assassin had to disguise as a statue instead of leaving due to a witness seeing her entering the building.
  • Suddenly Shouting: She tends to start yelling if she feels threatened or uncomfortable. This happens quite frequently.

    Priest
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2021_11_21_100030_pm.png
some caption text
A local priest. He visited Vil on the night of the murder to ask him for help with filling out adoption papers.
  • Bad Liar: When confronted about withholding evidence, he meekly tries to deny the allegations without putting up any counterarguments whatsoever. Dregg just has to present a few points of information to get him to confess to what he's hiding.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He may be a good guy, but he has nothing but scorn for Vil, due to the lawyer's corruption and cruelty.
  • Big "WHAT?!": He has one when Dregg reveals, the killer is still in the room.
  • The Confidant: He's been entrusted with looking after a child now that the church's benefactor is dead, and discreetly finding a good household for them. Even when pressed for more details by Dregg, he refuses to say more, knowing that if this secret is let out, it could cause a huge scandal for some very important people.
  • Cool Old Guy: He's a priest who spends his time helping orphans find good homes.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He wears black like most priests and is an upstanding member of society.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Like neighbor, he never opens his eyes, even when being accused of murder.
  • Friend to All Children: As well as being a priest, he also runs an orphange and is responsible for finding a house for the bastard child of an important member of the kingdom left at said orphanage. He cares deeply about the illegitimate child of his deceased benefactor he's been trusted to take care of and is trying to find a nice place for him to live. He also cares deeply about the other children in the orphanage, not wishing to be arrested solely so he can take care of them.
  • Good Cannot Comprehend Evil: He was shocked Vil wished to exploit the child he wished to adopt, unable to comprehend the selfishness many people in Rightia exhibit. He was so horrified by this revelation that he stormed out of the mansion, not even bothering to discuss the will any further.
  • Graceful Loser: He calmly accepts it when Dregg uncovers his secret, admitting to it and coming clean about everything, trusting that Dregg will be discreet.
  • Heavy Sleeper: He's asleep on the couch inside a room where a murder took place. He's chastised for being able to fall asleep under such intense circumstances.
  • Humble Hero: Even when he was about to be falsely imprisoned, he showed concern for the children in his orphanage rather than for himself.
  • Identical Stranger: To a disguised Eva. The neighbor even mistook him as the killer because of this.
  • Nice Guy: He's the friendliest out of the three witnesses.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: He wanted to find a good home for a boy under his care, and almost got him adopted into the household of Vil, who only sought to drain him of his parent's finances and abandon him. He's almost relieved when Vil is killed before the paperwork can be completed.
  • No Name Given: He's only known as priest.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: He expresses relief someone killed the lawyer, saying the world is better off without him. Dregg points out this is an odd thing for a holy man to say.
  • Refuge in Audacity: It's certainly unexpected to hear a priest thanking a murderer, though not incredibly hard to see how considering who the victim was.
  • Red Herring: He's originally accused of murder because the real killer disguised as him. He's actually innocent, only trying to find a good house for a child under his care.
  • Sheep in Sheep's Clothing: Since a priest was visiting the house on the night of Vil's death, it's implied he's housing a dark secret. He did visit the house, but left in anger when he realised Vil's cruel intentions regarding the adoption of a child. Eva, the killer, used his appearance to fool a neighbor watching the house. This was to deflect blame onto the priest, when really he was a good man trying to find a nice home for an orphan.
  • Younger Than They Look: He's described as being close to death, though he doesn't look that worn by age. It's likely that the average life expectancy in this time period and area is rather low, so this may explain why Dregg is worried the priest will pass away if he looks away from him.

A new worker looking for some advice about how to do their job.
  • Black Comedy: Dregg's advice for her first day at work is to swim to the bottom of the ocean and hold onto a rock until she drowns instead of being a cop. It's unlikely she took that to heart.
  • Foil: Yet another one to Dregg. She's enthusiastic and friendly and he's ...not
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Dregg isn't known for giving good advice about how to do your job well. She finds this out the hard way.
