Rune Angel Wing

    In General
  • Edible Theme Naming:
    • Apricot is named after the fruit apricot.
    • Lily's surname comes from the frozen dessert sherbet.
    • Nano-Nano's surname comes from the dessert named pudding.
    • Kahlua and Tequila are both names of Mexican alcoholic drinks. Their surname Marjoram is the name of an herb.
    • Anise is named after a flowering plant that's widely used to flavor food and alcoholic drinks.
    • Kuchen Baum's name is a reversal of the name of the cake Baumkuchen.

    Apricot "Rico" Sakuraba

Voiced by: Yuuna Inamura (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/apricot_sakuraba_anime.jpg

Rico fulfills much the same role that Milfeulle did in the original anime. However, she is more practical than her older sister and, in addition to cooking, she is also very handy with household chores and appears to be more grounded in reality than her older sister. Apricot idolises Milfeulle and frequently writes to her, which takes the form of the show's narration.

  • Big Sister Worship: She adores her older sister Milfeulle and tries to emulate her as much as possible and her uniform and hairstyle reflect this.
  • Cherry Blossom Girl: Her family name contains Sakura, she's sweet and kind and her ribbons have cherry blossoms on them.
  • Does Not Like Men: She's terrified of men, and will unintentionally lash out with a burst of Super-Strength whenever a male so much as touches her shoulder.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She ties her hair into two small pigtails that look adorable in her.
  • Hates Being Touched: She has a pathological reflex which causes her to obtain Super-Strength and throw around any male who touches her.
  • Naïve Newcomer: She is the newest member of the Rune Angel Wing and the one least experienced in the ways of the world.
  • Super-Strength: Whenever a man touches her, she becomes ten times stronger than a regular person.

    Lily C. Sherbet

Voiced by: Erina Nakayama (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lily_sherbet_anime.jpg

A knightly girl of regal bearing, Lily is the most serious-minded of the Rune Angels and handles all of their mission requests. Although the team is mostly informal, Lily is shown to be the de facto leader due to her reliability and cool, knightly demeanour. On the other hand she can be a real stick in the mud when she wants to be and tends to be a bit judgemental of others, especially Anise. As the responsible, military and humourless type, Lily does not appear as frequently as the other characters within the anime's slice-of-life context.

  • Badass Longcoat: Her Custom Uniform includes a cool longcoat.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Her short hair suits well with her serious and dependable personality.
  • Catchphrase: "That goes against the way of the sword!" and "NG-da" (Literally, "that's no good" in a manlier sort of way.)
  • Curtains Match the Window: Blue hair and eyes.
  • The Leader: Lily is the de facto leader of the Rune Angels due to her reliability and cool, knightly demeanor.
  • Only Sane Woman: She's the most normal and levelheaded member of the team.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue Oni to Anise's Red Oni. Lily is cool, serious-minded and reliable, in sharp contrast to the loud, brash and irresponsible Anise. Bonus points for Lily having blue hair and Anise having red hair.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Lampshaded in one episode where Lily notes that she and Anise had been on the same team for 10 years and were still as antagonistic towards each other as they were on the first day.

    Nano-Nano Pudding

Voiced by: Satomi Akesaka (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nano_pudding_anime.jpg

The Rune Angels' resident catgirl. That is literally all there is to say about her. Okay, Nano-Nano is actually a sentient colony of nanomachines that was discovered by Vanilla on some remote world somewhere, which she then adopted and raised on her own. Nano-Nano's clearest memory of Vanilla is how she told her to become a big nanomachine colony, which she does by absorbing all sorts of machinery. She looks up to Anise in a sisterly sort of way and has a good relationship with Natsume who is around the same age as her. She also plays around with Mimolette a lot by virtue of the fact that they are both cats or catlike.

    Kahlua / Tequila Marjoram

Voiced by: Aya Hirano (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kahlua_tequila_marjoram_anime.jpg

A sorceress with two opposite personalities.

Both
  • All Witches Have Cats: She has a familiar named Mimolette that looks like the floating head of a black cat.
  • Cleavage Window: Her dress has an opening that shows some of her cleavage. It's a lot more revealing when she's Tequila.
  • Mark of the Supernatural: She has light purple eyes in both forms and she's the only witch known in the series.
  • Split Personality: She has two personalities. The first is the unpredictable and ditzy Kahlua. The other is her hypercompetent alter ego Tequila who generally doesn't do anything and has a reputation for promiscuity and speaking in lots and lots of innuendo.
  • Split-Personality Makeover: Kahlua's hair is straight and blonde, while Tequila's is wavy and purple.
  • Split-Personality Switch Trigger: The Kahlua and Tequila personalities transform back and forth whenever Kahlua ingests alcohol, or when she eats one of her special magic chocolates.

Kahlua

  • Cute Witch: She's one adorable witch.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: In spite of her constant clumsiness, the blonde Kahlua has a sunny personality and is more than willing to help out her friends especially if it involves her main areas of expertise: cosmetics and TV dramas. In the crazy mixed up world of the Rune Angels, these things prove to be useful on more occasions than one might expect.
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: She's a sweetheart, but also a slow airhead.
  • Mad Scientist: She's usually doing experiments in her lab that consistently blow up in her face or have horrifying results.
  • Nice Girl: She's the sweetest girl of the Rune Angel Troupe.

Tequila

  • Double Entendre: Over half of Tequila's lines throughout the series.
  • Hot Witch: While a witch like her other personality, Tequila is more sexy than cute.
  • Sexier Alter Ego: Each time she swaps from Kahlua to Tequila, her bust line (and by extension, her whole body) fills out and practically exceeds her top, leaving her green dress underneath.

    Anise Azeat

Voiced by: Satomi Hanamura (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anise_azeat_anime.jpg

In many ways she's the polar opposite of Lily; lazy, loudmouthed, extremely spendthrift and basically amoral. She owes Mint a debt of astronomical proportions, one that she will never be able to pay, and it dominates her every waking moment. As such, she even more prone to get-rich-quick schemes than the Moon Angels on a good day.

  • Fiery Redhead: Magenta hair and a hotheaded girl. The perfect combination.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She styles her hair in low-hanging twintails. While anything but girly, she's quite immature and irresponsible.
  • The Lad-ette: The easiest way to describe Anise would be some kind of cross between a Space Pirate, an odd-jobswoman and a biker gal.
  • Only in It for the Money: She's part of the Rune Angel Wing because she really needs money to pay off her huge debt to Mint.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red Oni to Lily's Blue Oni. Anise is loud, brash and irresponsible; the polar opposite of the cool, serious-minded and reliable Lily. Bonus points for Anise having red hair and Lily having blue hair.
  • Space Pirate: She would not have been part of the Rune Angel Wing at all if she hadn't tried to hijack the Luxiole.
  • Tomboyish Voice: She speaks in a low, husky voice to match her extremely tomboyish behavior and speech.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: She's butting heads with Lily often.

    Mimolette

Voiced by: Akiko Kobayashi (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mimolette_anime.png

Kahlua's loyal floating cat-head-thing.

  • The Chew Toy: Mimolette seems to have inherited Normad's tendency to have horrible things happen to him every few minutes.
  • Flying Face: Mimolette is nothing but the flying head of a cat.
  • Team Pet: Like Normad in the first series, Mimolette is the pet of one of the Angels and usually hangs around the team.

    Kuchen Baum

Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kuchen_baum.png

The concierge of Villa Angel, the boarding house where the Rune Angel Wing lodges when not on duty. Which seems to be most of the time. Kuchen has a tendency to be theatrical.

  • Butt-Monkey: He presents himself as a long-suffering nanny who has to follow after the girls and pick up the pieces of their latest catastrophe.
  • Expy Coexistence: He serves as a counterpart to Volcott who tended to suffer in silence, but it appears he cares for the girls almost as much as his more military counterpart.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: Kuchen can be seen in several places throughout the series working odd jobs as either a man or a woman, presumably to help pay the upkeep of Villa Angel.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: He's a transvestite and works several side jobs including a hostess in a seedy bar. Much of the humour surrounding Kuchen comes from the fact that only the Rune Angel Wing know he's actually a man.

    Cdr. Isabella Essence

Voiced by: Yuki Matsuoka (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/isabella_essence.png

The girls' commanding officer.

  • Male Gaze: A rare in-universe example. She only ever appears over a TV screen, which is sometimes zoomed in on random and not-so-random parts of her body. No explanation is ever given for it, and the only characters to notice it are the men on the Luxiole's bridge (not that they're complaining).
  • Ms. Fanservice: She only appears to provide the characters and audience with Male Gaze.

Others

    Mayor Dorten Bein

Voiced by: Yuichi Nagashima (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dorten_bein.png

The mayor of Seldor.

    Princess Natsume Izayoi

Voiced by: Atsuko Enomoto (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/natsume_izayoi_anime.png

Natsume is a representative of the Arms Alliance to EDEN. Just what the Arms Alliance is never comes up because her mission as a goodwill ambassador turns out to be nothing more than an excuse for her world tour to try out the finest cookies in the universe. After tasting some of Kuchen's cookies, she decides to stay and sets up her own personal castle and requisite island on the outskirts of the Rune Angels' home city. There she mostly keeps to herself and doesn't get involved with the girls' onscreen hijinx but she shares a cordial relationship with Nano-Nano, who sometimes comes to her garden to play.

  • Antiquated Linguistics: She speaks with an archaic style of Japanese, all the way to using the archaic feminine pronoun "warawa" to refer to herself.
  • Facial Markings: The flower mark in her forehead.
  • Forehead of Doom: She has an impressively wide and shiny forehead.
  • Innocently Insensitive: A Running Gag in episode four has Natsume attempting to ask if Kuchen is a transvestite, but always being cut off by one of her servants.
  • The Napoleon: She's tiny and prone to comedic violence towards her servants if denied what she wants, especially sweets.
  • Odd Friendship: She becomes fast friends with the nanomachine lifeform Nano-Nano because she thinks she's the only girl who is as cute as herself.
  • Ojou Ringlets: Two hair sidelocks curled like drills. Perfect for a princess.
  • Picky Eater: Episode 4 has her trying different popular cookies, but not being satisfied enough with their taste. Kuchen's cookies are the only ones that meet her expectations.
  • Royal Brat: She's quite haughty, demanding and won't accept anything that doesn't match her high expectations.
  • Verbal Tic: -nano ja, a reasonably common one for royalty.

Natsume's servants.

    Kazuya Shiranami

Voiced by: Hisafumi Oda (JP)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kazuya_shiranami_anime.png

The protagonist of Galaxy Angel II who only appears for a gag in the last two episodes.

  • Demoted to Extra: He does not appear in the anime aside from two scenes despite being the protagonist of the original videogame.
