Playable Characters

    Johnny Savage
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/johnny_savage.png
"It's time to get the girl and kill the bastards."

The latest creation of The Hand, an aggressive, foul-mouthed punk rocker who uses the power of music to decimate his opponents. He also happens to be looking for the girl of his dreams, who he spotted from afar falling into the notebook shortly after his creation.

  • Achilles' Heel: His Devil's Riff special doesn't work on demons, in this case Diabla. If Johnny uses his Devil's Riff on her as she's kneeling, she'll gain a massive amount of health.
  • Author Avatar: Johnny is basically what the kid aspires to be. The game's platinum trophy also depicts a romantic scene of Johnny with his girlfriend watching the sunset, mirroring the kid's crush on a girl in his class named Amy.
  • Damsel in Distress: He's looking for his missing girlfriend.
  • Delinquent Hair: A mo-hawk.
  • Diving Kick: His Punk Kick is both used for movement and damage, but you can hear him screaming while charging it up.
  • Musical Assassin: His Head Banger special has him play a song that causes people's heads to explode.
  • Punk Rock
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Johnny's normal attire lacks a shirt, but some skins have him wear one.
  • Your Head A-Splode: What his Head Banger special causes for his opponents.

    Diabla Tijuana

"They wanted a demon? Well they're gonna get me, and I promise you, I'm worse."

Formerly a pacifist, Diabla changed after The Hand erased her husband and daughter from existence. She made a deal with a demon to gain demonic powers and get her revenge on The Hand.

  • Achilles' Heel: Alan's melee attacks do extra damage against her.
  • Action Girl: She became one after the hand erased her husband and daughter. Before then, fighting was the furthest thing from her mind.
  • Boomerang Comeback: Her Crown of Damnation has her throwing her hat. It actually does more damage on the return trip.

    Cyborgula
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cyborgula.png
"Blood and gasoline, monster and machine! All hail Cyborgula!"

A vampire cyborg who suspects that there is a world beyond his own. He was mocked and ridiculed for this, but after The Shaking and the sky raining blood, he's set out on a quest to discover the truth behind the existence of his world.

  • Seeker Archetype: He's seeking for the truth behind his world's existence.
  • Taking You with Me: He activates a self destruct sequence when destroyed. This prevents his killer from scoring if caught in the blast.

    Alan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alan_7.png
"Hey kids! Magic Mouse here! I can't wait to gut you WIDE open!"

Originally believed to be a myth, said to wander in the dark margins of the notebook, killing anyone he comes across. The Shaking caused Alan to come out from hiding, free to butcher anyone he wants.

  • Achilles' Heel: Alan's invisibility powers don't work against Cyborgula.
  • Expy: Of Leatherface and fast food mascots. He's also very similar to Needles Kane (AKA Sweet Tooth), another creation of David Jaffe, both of them being burly chainsaw-wielding psychopaths with masks representative of child-friendly mascots being made scary (Sweet Tooth is a Monster Clown who drives an ice cream truck in Vehicular Combat, Alan has a Mickey Mouse style head and chops people into burger meat).
  • Healing Factor: His Healing Pain ability allows him to recover health over time, but prevents him from using health pick-ups.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: He chops people up for his burgers.
  • In a Single Bound: He can jump higher than any of the other characters.
  • Invisibility: He can turn invisible, although Cyborgula can see him anyway.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Magic Mouse burgers and fries. Unfortunately for the Announcer and the player, the various health pick-ups aren't this, so Alan won't use them.
  • Write Who You Know: In-universe. The kid's diary mentions an Alan who wants him to work for Magic Mouse, which is evidently a real burger chain in the world outside the notebook. The Alan the kid draws pretty much sums up his feelings on the real Alan and the food there.

    Bronco
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bronco_3.png
"Bronco, dropping in!"

Staff Sgt. Mark "Bronco" Gordon is the closest thing to a superhero in the notebook, known for his rescue missions after The Shaking. Some, however, believe that he's starting to lose his mind after so much time on the battlefield.

  • Achilles' Heel: If Ninjaw uses her Spirit of the Sea attack on Bronco, he'll drop sushi health pick-ups for Ninjaw.
  • Action Hero: He's a heroic, ass-kicking soldier with a deep love of the USA, respect for his fallen comrades, and an apparent love interest with the woman on the other side of his radio calls.
  • Artificial Limbs: Bronco's left leg is prosthetic.
  • Attack Drone: One of Bronco's special abilities allows him to summon an attack drone he calls "Mad Mo" that follows him around the battlefield for a short time and attacks enemies.

    Ninjaw
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ninjaw.png
"Feedingu Furenzy, hehehe~!"

Once a member of a proud race of female ninja sharks, The Hand simply stopped drawing them, leaving Ninjaw the last of her kind. She fights to impress The Hand, hoping that one day her race will be restored.

  • Achilles' Heel: Ninjaw can normally see opponents with low health through walls. However, this ability doesn't work against Bronco.
  • Bilingual Bonus: She only speaks Japanese.
  • Butter Face: She has a shapely female body, but a shark's head.
  • Gratuitous English: She normally only speaks Japanese, but when switching to her special attacks, she'll say their names in English, albeit with a heavy accent.
  • Last Of Her Kind: Her people where slaughtered and The Hand wouldn't draw more. She fights so that he will bring back her people.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's a parody of these types of characters.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: She's ninja shark woman.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Sure, she has the body of a woman, but with the shark head, you wouldn't exactly expect her to sound like your typical anime schoolgirl.

NPCs

    The Frog
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/frog.png
A partially dissected frog who acts as the player's host and teacher during the tutorial.

  • Deadpan Snarker: He has absolutely no respect for the player, constantly mocking their mistakes and handing out sarcastic praise for their successes.
  • Jerkass

    The Announcer
  • Cuckoolander Commentator: He's quick to go off on long tangents about events in his life whenever something happens in the game reminds him of them.
  • Nice Guy: He provides the health pick-ups, praises your skill when you're doing well, and will personally give you a buff if your teammate ditches you in Team Deathmatch.
  • Too Much Information: He goes on tangents quite frequently, but the biggest moment of TMI is when he says that the players performance is giving him a massive, throbbing boner, and asks the player if he wants to see it, and he keeps going on and on about how he's not ashamed of it at all, and is actually quite proud.

    The Kid/The Hand
The creator of the world inside the notebook. Treated as a god by the inhabitants, he's actually just an edgy high school student.
