YMMV / Drawn to Death

Go To

  • Audience-Alienating Premise: The game set out to look like the kind of thing an edgy teenager would draw in his notebook during class, and succeeded perhaps a little too well. The characters are very ugly and not in a way that makes them endearing, the limited color palette just makes everything so one-note, and the intentionally crass and juvenile humor is overall...crass and juvenile. Older gamers were turned off by the game's immature style, younger gamers who were more likely to appreciate Drawn to Death were too young to even play it in the first place, and both were just more drawn to Overwatch, which this game was inevitably competing against. The game underperformed and the servers were shut down in early 2019.
  • Play the Game, Skip the Story: The deeper lore of the game is hidden all over the place; including how the characters feel about this whole "fight to the death or get erased for good" thing and the details on the artist's life at home and in school.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Game types are randomly selected instead of being chosen or voted on by the players, which means people may have to play through several matches of game types they aren't good at before getting to one they can fully enjoy. Some players are fine with this as it forces them to adapt and learn how to play better while others dislike it and wish that the game would at least implement some sort of voting system to prevent them from being stuck doing modes they don't like all the time.
