  • Anti Anti Christ: Tries to be this at first.
  • Happily Adopted: In the anime.
  • Hulking Out: In the anime he would be at risk of transforming uncontrollably when angered, a downplayed example in Neo, he’d form a pattern of bruises on his face when he became Lightning Ryo.
  • Suicide by Cop: Attempts this during his first rampage as Dante, egging the national guard to kill him once he realized he’d become a monster.
    Masaki Shinjou
The main character of Shin Mao Dante. Unlike Ryo, Masaki is contacted by Medusa directly to resurrect Dante.

God's Forces

    God
A malevolent entity that came from space, after the people of earth refused to allow God to store his essence in their bodies and worship him, he destroyed their civilization, accidentally transforming the survivors into demons, and recreated the human race from anthropoid apes. Now the demons seek to reclaim their world from God, but he’s not going down without a fight.
  • A God Am I: He literally named himself "God".
  • Big Bad: The Main and most omnipresent villain of Demon Lord Dante.
  • Decomposite Character: In New Demon Lord Dante, God is depicted as an entire race of aliens who have colonized the planet.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: The anime series presents him as one to the Saiyans of Dragon Ball fame. While the Saiyans enjoy combat, God is described in terms that imply that he is addicted to fighting, while the Saiyans have turned to a semi-constructive outlet for their bloodlust as freelance planet conquerors, God goes from planet to planet plunging them into millions of years conflict and leaving behind a dead husk in his wake, and while the Saiyans enjoy combat they don't actively seek it out at every turn, meanwhile God literally creates new enemies to fight.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The people of Sodom refused his unreasonable demands, so he destroyed their civilization, turned them into hideous monsters and erased them from the fossil record.
Camel Head Avatar: You’ll come back to life and then be burned to death, over and over! That’s the price you pay for resisting God!
  • Eldritch Abomination: Not to the same extent as in Devilman but Ryo could still feel God’s evil from a mental image.
  • Energy Beings: He's not entirely pleased with this and came to Earth in the first place to use the inhabitants as his new vessels.
  • Me's a Crowd: When he destroyed Sodom he split himself into several avatars with animal heads.

    Kosuke Utsugi
Ryo Utsugi's father and the leader of the organization that serves God.
  • Adaptational Badass: In the original manga and anime he is a normal human, oblivious to the full nature of humanity to God, in Neo Mao Dante he is Archangel Uriel.
