Trivia / Demon Lord Dante

• Fountain of Expies: A complicated example, Dante was used as the basis for Devilman and later Mazinger Z, both of which would become fountains of their own, which means that every character character that is an Expy of Akira Fudo or Koji Kabuto is by extension an Expy of Ryo Utsugi.
• Franchise Killer: Like the Violence Jack OVA before it, the critically panned Animated Adaptation arguably killed off all interest in the franchise outside of a brief manga reboot.
• What Could Have Been: Media Blasters had a deal with license holder Enoki Films to release the Dante anime as they had already released a few other Akira Tsuburaya produced anime, but John Sirabella wisely cancelled the deal since they were already losing money from those other shows ^note  and although the staff at Media Blasters were big fans of Go Nagai, Leiji Matsumoto and the like, even they thought these shows were garbage. . The end result was Geneon getting the license, but it wasn't really a hit for them either.
