The CHUNITHM series has a great number of unique characters, a new one being applied to most new original songs. Additionally, the band Irodori Midori (essentially SEGA's equivalent to HinaBitter) appears regularly.
Characters are listed in the order of their introduction. Kotonoha Project characters and characters that are attached to non-Original genre songs do not appear.

- Descended Creator: Naoki Maeda, formerly lead music producer in DanceDanceRevolution and CROSS×BEATS, turns character here.
- Pun: An update poster featuring him features the phrase "ATTACK ALL JUSTICE!!", which is several layers of puns wrapped up together. First, it's a reference to "ATTACK! PERFECT FULL COMBO", a warning phrase in DDR that shows up on an Encore Extra Stage if the condition is to get a Perfect Full Combo on the song, with any judge rank below Perfect immediately causing a Game Over; here, the CHUNITHM equivalent of a PFC, "All Justice", is used. Second, "Attack" is a judge rank in this game, being the one immediately below "Justice".
- Shout-Out: Each and every single one of the appearances of NAOKI references something in the BEMANI series in all sorts of ways.
- Default appearance:
- The pose of NAOKI references his pose in the artwork for "Ignition∞Break" from REFLEC BEAT.
- Be For You:
- The name is a dual reference to NAOKI's song "B4U", from DDR 4th Mix, and BeForU, an idol group formed by KONAMI to appear in DDR, who provided vocals for several NAOKI songs.
- NAOKI's pose is a reference to the beatmania IIDX song, "Flash Back 90s".
- The associated Skill is called "COME ON '98!!". This references the year that DDR debuted (1998), and also the NAOKI song "1998".
- The Skill greatly increases gauge for every 180 combo; this is a reference to "PARANOiA", NAOKI's first KONAMI Original song, for which he used the alias 180 (as the song went at 180 BPM).
- SEQUENCE UNLIMITED:
- The name references "NM SEQUENCE UNLIMITED", which is an alias by which NAOKI was referred on some DDR original soundtracks.
- The Skill name, "DIRTY FIRE" is a dual reference to "PARANOiA MAX ~DIRTY MIX~", and the REFLEC BEAT song "UNLIMITED FIRE". NAOKI's pose also references UNLIMITED FIRE.
- The Skill increases gauge boosts by 190%; the speed of "PARANOiA MAX ~DIRTY MIX~" is 190 BPM. This Skill fails automatically if the player misses too many times; DDR was one of if not the first music game to have a "auto-fail if gauge drops to zero" type pass/fail system, as opposed to the "build gauge up to a certain level by the end" system such as in beatmania.
- MAXX:
- The name references the "MAX" series, particularly "MAXX UNLIMITED" and "Fascination MAXX".
- NAOKI's pose is based on the figure in the art of "THE FALLEN" from REFLEC BEAT.
- The name of the Skill is "Ω", the alias NAOKI used for the infamous "MAX 300".
- The Skill occasionally increases gauge boosts by 300%, rising to 320% after being levelled up; this is a reference to the speeds of "MAX 300" (300 BPM) and "MAXX UNLIMITED" (320 BPM). However, it has an extremely harsh condition which fails after 4 misses; this is a reference to the DDR "LIFE4" alternative gauge system.
- NMR:
- The name, NMR, is another alias previously used by NAOKI.
- NAOKI's appearance is once again a reference to a REFLEC BEAT song: "VALLIS-NERIA".
- The Skill name, Supernova (スーパーノヴァ), is a clear reference to DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA.
- The Skill causes GAUGE growth to accelerate from 100% to 200% to 400%. This is a reference to "Fascination MAXX"'s speed and the alias used for it (100-200-400 for both). The Skill also causes the player to auto-fail after 18 misses - 18 is the difficulty level (out of 20) of "Fascination MAXX"'s CHALLENGE chart.
- Default appearance:
CHUNITHM Cabinet (CHUNITHM筐体), maimai Cabinet (maimai筐体), and O.N.G.E.K.I. Cabinet (オンゲキ筐体)
- Crossover: Naturally, between the three series.
- Joke Character: They're literally just cabinets of the game in question, and their skill (increasing ALL JUSTICE bonus) is rather weak... unless you get to a high enough level where you get ALL JUSTICE on a regular basis.

- Associated music: "《混乱》 ~ Muspell"
- Elemental Hair Colors: Red hair to match her elemental alignment.

Myan Tersuulas (ミァン・テルスウラス)
- Associated music: "《理想》 ~ Cloudland"

When Tita starts razing Rusula and everyone was desperate, they kept asking her for solutions even after Tita's army destroyed the cathedral she was in and burnt the capital. It led to her outright breaking and killing everyone of her fellow worshipers.
Cielo Mehve (シエロ・メ―ヴェ)
- Associated music: "《逃避》 ~ The Deserter"
- Blow You Away: The Wind Priestess of Sybula.
- Broken Pedestal: She once looked upon her mother when she was young until they were separated. Unfortunately, years later she finds her being the priestess of a cannibal cult and tricked her into eating her friend Finn.

Juna Salakia (ジュナ・サラキア)
- Associated music: "《最愛》 ~ Curse"
- Break the Cutie: To an absolutely sadistic degree. She was a pacifist who used her powers for Theokia, but an invasion ordered by Tita razed everything in her capital. She was then held captive and Blackmailed by Tita to kill the fire priestess' enemies to protect her own childhood friend Gustav, only to accidentally kill him. Understandably, she lost her sanity entirely and was reduced to a killing machine who indiscriminately kills friend and foe alike before she dies to a poison dart.
- Elemental Hair Colors: Blue hair to match her elemental alignment.
- Making a Splash: The Water Priestess of Sybula.
Anna Margrethe (アンナ・マルグレーテ)
- Associated music: "《運命》 ~ Ray of Hope"
- Patron Saint: Created as a saint for the hopes of humanity. She has no actual powers, and no one asked her whether she appreciates being worshipped.
