Bukyoku Academy

    Yudai Moroboshi
3rd Year
Rank: B
Device: Koou
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moroboshi_yudai.jpg

  • Anti-Magic: His Noble Art, Tiger Bite, can also cancel an A-ranker's Noble Art. This also extends to devices, which are also made from magic.
  • Big Brother Instinct: His motivation for participating in the Seven Stars Sword Art Festival and proving his strength is to get his sister to stop blaming herself for what happened to his legs.
  • Big Damn Heroes: He saves Ikki from being killed by Ouma.
  • Cool Big Bro: To his younger sister Koume. He's also this towards Ikki but to a lesser extent.
  • Determinator: Yudai lost both his legs in a train accident and had to be treated by Kirko Yakushi, who used her water magic to create new legs from flesh from the rest of his body, causing muscle and bone atrophy all over his body. Despite this, he managed to make it through rehabilitation and rebuild his muscle mass to the point of regaining his combat capabilities.
  • Friendly Rival: He treats most of his tournament rivals to his family's okonomiyaki restaurant in order to motivate them for the upcoming match in top condition. And he's not too pleased when he realizes Ikki came into battle with some sort of condition that causes him to freeze up.
  • Genius Bruiser: He averts being The Idiot from Osaka when he matches wits with Ikki of all people.
  • Hit-and-Run Tactics: In order to beat Toka, Yudai had to use his range advantage to avoid Raikiri.
  • Javelin Thrower: Yudai's last gambit is to throw his device at Ikki while the latter is moving Too Fast to Stop while using it with Tiger Bite to prevent any attempts at blocking it. Though Ikki saw it coming and fools him with an afterimage.
  • Martial Arts Headband: He sports a black hachimaki and is indeed a skilled martial artist.

    Byakuya Jougasaki
3rd Year
Rank: C
Nickname: Eye of Heaven
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jougasaki_byakuya.jpg

  • Awesome by Analysis: His ability to read his opponents is better than Ikki's, to the point where he's known as Eye of Heaven. He also extensively researches his opponents before their matches.
  • Crazy-Prepared: While researching opponents, he'll look into their everyday habits in addition to their combat behavior.
  • Didn't See That Coming: He thinks Ikki will try to save Ittou Shura/Rasetsu for the match with Sara Bloodlily, who recently got designated as an A-Rank Blazer and revealed near Story-Breaker Power. What he didn't realize is that Ikki already gave up on trying to beat him in a normal battle of wits, resulting in the latter using Ittou Rasetsu to instantly win the match.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Byakuya actually feels up Ikki's muscular body in order to describe how he's ideally built to be a swordsman.
  • Weaponized Teleportation: His "God Hand" Noble Art can teleport immobile objects or people within a 50-mater radius of himself. If he manages to wound his opponent with his device, he can teleport them regardless of where they're moving.
  • Weak, but Skilled: He's a C-Rank Blazer, but he's so good at researching his opponents that Ikki was forced to use Ittou Rasetsu to avoid being checkmated.

    Momiji Asagi

Rank: C
Device: Hibachi

  • Flash Step: Is also quite skilled in the trackless step due to studying under the same master as Nene and Toka.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Her device takes the form of a katana.
  • Playing with Fire: She possesses the ability to manipulate fire for both offense and defense.

Donrou Academy

    Kuraudo Kurashiki
Voiced by: Yoshimasa Hosoya (Japanese), Andrew Love (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_kuraudo.png
3rd Year
Rank: C
Device: Orochimaru
Nickname: Sword Eater

  • Affably Evil: While he may be villainous to the point that he injured Kaito, he considers Ikki a Worthy Opponent.
  • Blood Knight: Always tries to provoke strong people into fighting him. He will break the law to do so.
  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: After losing to Ikki, Kuraudo learns Ayatsuji style swordsmanship from Kaito, which has great synergy with Marginal Counter.
  • Character Development: Ikki notes that Kuraudo couldn't possibly change his device's form so drastically without similarly drastic changes to his philosophy and lifestyle. Indeed, Kuraudo only respected swordsmen when they were strong opponents, but he didn't care at all about the discipline or finesse involved when he could just get by with brute force and superior reflexes, which is reflected in his delinquent and dojo-busting lifestyle. After being humbled by Ikki's use of Ten'i Muhou, he decides to take swordsmanship seriously to the point of learning from the dojo that he once mocked. While he's still very rude, Ikki notes that he's actually less of a delinquent than before due to all the training he went through.
  • Dual Wielding: He changes from using a single bone-whip sword to wielding two smaller ones. This is somewhat deconstructed because wielding both swords requires more mental effort than just one.
  • Easily Forgiven: Subverted. Kaito had to train him in secret because Ayase hasn't forgiven him for putting her father in a coma.
  • Graceful Loser: Downplayed. He clearly respects Ikki for defeating him, but he admits that he can't let the loss go, causing Kuraudo to go as far as to abandon his previous brute-force style.
  • Jerkass: He goes to extremes to anger strong people in order to get a good fight and isn't afraid to hospitalize them. While he does display some noble traits, he's still far from qualifying for a heart of gold.
  • Hope Spot: He manages to beat one Ikki clone with his improved swordsmanship and thinks he has a shot at beating Sara, but the other two overwhelm him.
  • Noble Demon: At the same time, he some respect for his opponents, such as when he takes Ikki's reproduction of Kaito's technique head on, regardless if he could have won by fighting more cautiously.
  • Repetitive Name: Kuraudo Kurashiki.
  • Shout-Out: Many fans note a lot of similarities between him and Renji from Bleach.
  • Spam Attack: With his Marginal Counter he can strike multiple times in rapid succession.
  • Super-Reflexes: He has an ability called Marginal Counter that gives him insane reflexes in exchange for his stamina.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: His actual sword technique is not that good, but his reflexes make up for it. Downplayed when he realizes that reflexes alone aren't enough against sufficiently skilled swordsmen like Ikki, causing him to train seriously.
  • Whip Sword: One made of bones. The sword's range, along with his reflexes, gives him an advantage over Ikki and other melee specialists in general.
  • The Worf Effect: Even after all his sword training with Kaito Ayatsuji, Kuraudo loses to Sara when she summons more Ikki clones than he can handle.
  • Worthy Opponent: He realizes Ikki is a powerful foe because the latter didn't take his bait like most people. He also considers Kaito Ayatsuji one and somewhat regrets being unable to see his ultimate technique.
