Kana Ise

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_da1ba892fbde4b1d7820a2aed2251776_e814e0cd_640.png

A professional voice actress with a bubbly and playful nature.

  • Dark and Troubled Past: She was born out of wedlock and the father decided to abandon the two shortly after. While her mother was able to provide for them, Kana was aware of how much she struggled and believed herself to be the source of their suffering. As it turns out though, while she was abandoned by her mother's husband, she wasn't born out of wedlock so much as the product of sperm donation.
  • Dead Guy Junior: It's heavily implied Hajime and Chiaki name their daughter in honor of her.
  • Fangirl: She's a huge fan of Chiaki for her reputation as the Ultimate Gamer. Subverted when she reveals her true lineage and her grudge against Chiaki.
  • Half-Sibling Angst: The man who abandoned Kana and her mother and Chiaki's father are ultimately revealed to be the same person. Thus making the two half-sisters. This later turns out to not be the whole story; Chiaki's father Tenmei was just a sperm donor and he and his wife were good friends with Kana's mother Misako. They even wanted to raise the two girls together, only for Misako's husband to force them to cut off all contact.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After she and Chiaki have a heart-to-heart, one that helps enlighten her to Maverick's manipulation, Kana decides to side with her and save the other hostages.
  • Killed Off for Real: Kana dies in The Storm Dissipates Arc.
  • Long-Lost Relative: She is Chiaki’s long-lost half-sister.
  • Lovely Angels: She and Chiaki form quite a badass duo during the fight against Storm.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: How did she end up in the whole Sunny Days situation? She wanted to see if everyone at the studio she worked at was okay after the prison break that freed Storm and Kanade, and just happened to run into the former in the parking lot.
  • Odd Friendship: Her time on Sunny Days Vacation Island has helped bring her, Yuki, Damian, and Kanon together as close friends.
  • Only a Flesh Wound: Averted hard. Getting shot in the gut with a hollow-point round leads to her death by sepsis.
  • Related in the Adaptation: To Misako Rokuhana, her mother in this setting, and Chiaki, who is later revealed to be her older half-sister.
  • Speak in Unison: She and Chiaki have a tendency to do this, showcasing how close they become.
  • Stepford Smiler: In the hospital, Kana tries her best to cheer everyone else up, even while she's in pain and thinking about her regrets.
  • Taking the Bullet: She takes a bullet while protecting a wounded and pinned Chiaki from Storm, also permanently crippling him in the process. It doesn't kill her outright, but it does leave her on death's door.
  • Why Can't I Hate You?: She admits she expected to hate Chiaki from the get-go, knowing she was Tenmei's daughter, but she was surprised to find herself genuinely liking her. Later on, the two fully reconcile and decide to become real sisters.
  • Worth It: When Storm is about to shoot, he tells her that he hopes turning against him was worth it. Kana assures him that it was.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: She confesses to Hajime and Chiaki that Storm was a twisted monster who was tormenting them and provides them with a means of contacting for help. To their dismay, it was actually a trap to get them to lower their guards and lead their friends into an ambush attack.
    • She was also on the receiving end of one. Storm met her at the studio she worked at by pretending to be a new intern with a broken arm, which allowed him to get in close enough to manipulate her.

Misako Ise

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_ed72322c78eecc651125fefe7984621d_627568ea_640.png

Kana's mother.

  • Adaptational Name Change: She was named Misako Rokuhana in Danganronpa Blowback.
  • Age Lift: She was a teenager in her game, but has now been aged up to be somewhere in her thirties or forties.
  • Good Parents: According to Kana, she's a kind and loving mother, even if she's a bit stoic.
  • One Degree of Separation: She was college classmates with Chiaki's parents and later became pregnant courtesy of her father.
    • Turns out it wasn't due to an affair, but simply because Misako and her husband, who was sterile, wanted to have a child and Tenmei and Harumi agreed to a sperm donation.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: She outlives her daughter due to Maverick shooting her.
  • Platonic Co-Parenting: In The Clouds Pass arc, she's set to move in with the Nanamis, answering Chiaki's desire to have someone at home when her parents are away on business.
  • Related in the Adaptation: She was Kana's peer in her debut game, but now is her biological mother.

    Rebirth Cast

Ayumu Fujimori

The soft-spoken and extremely unlucky son of a Tokyo politician.

  • Adaptational Badass: In Danganronpa Re:Birth, Ayumu was just a regular guy with seriously bad luck. Here, even as a baby, he possesses Divine Misfortune, the antithesis to Utsuro's Divine Luck.
  • Age Lift: He's less than six months old by the time the group finds out about him.
  • Born Unlucky: Literally, as there was an accident with an MRI machine in the hospital he was born in and a nearby transformer blew up. His family also seems to suffer from his bad luck as well, such as his cousin Fumio being caught in the path of a serial killer or his father losing an election.
  • The Ghost: Has yet to show up properly, but has been discussed at length and his father has also been mentioned. Not surprising, since he's still a baby and his family has been hiding him from the public's eye. Taira does meet him in Black and White Christmas, when she becomes the Fujimori family's maid.
  • Goo-Goo-Godlike: The group is quite concerned to learn a baby is in possession of Divine Misfortune, the ultimate bad luck.
  • The Jinx: Ayumu's bad luck causes calamities wherever he goes and is speculated to have the power to even cancel out Divine Luck.
    • Black and White Christmas confirms that Divine Luck and Divine Misfortune do seem to cancel each other out, producing a net normal effect.
  • Significant Birth Date: Proves to be an important plot point that Ayumu was born April 9th, 2012.

    Neo World Program Monitor Cast

Nagi Nanami

Sprite created by Neo World Program Monitor

A mature and peaceful programmer from another reality. Through the power of dream walking, she frequently visits Hajime to share about their current experiences.

  • Alternate Self: To Chiaki Nanami. She has the same parents, attends Hope's Peak and was even Class 77-B's class rep. While her name and appearance differ, she also mentions that she created the Chiaki A.I. for the Neo World Program in her world.
  • An Arm and a Leg: She mentions to have lost both her legs due to Junko.
  • Official Couple: She's in a steady relationship with her Hajime.
  • Perky Goth: She dresses in gothic attire and is quite amicable.
  • Spanner in the Works: In the Let The Dogs Out Arc, it's thanks to her that Hajime learns about the Copycat Killer's existence and how they would Kill and Replace Kinu Hiroshima.

Kinu Hiroshima

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_865d3d71d564a5d6f66338f75abdd245_638dba73_500_6.png

A friendly girl, albeit an easily distracted one, and the future Ultimate Dog Trainer of Class 78-B.

  • Ambiguous Situation: After being given the list by the 2030 kids, the Quantum Crew learn one of the items on there is keeping Kinu safe. What exactly a quirky dog-lover like her would need protecting from and why it would impact the future isn't clear to anyone. Speculations include everything from saving her from a poisonous animal to her having a connection to the yakuza.
    • Turns out the reason is because her sense of smell leads her into a Serial Killer known as the Copycat Killer, whose M.O. is impersonating the people they murder.
  • Ambiguously Brown: She's Japanese yet has golden brown skin and mahogany hair.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: She gets distracted fairly easily. When the Quantum Crew find her at the airport, she's playing with a touchscreen terminal.
  • Genki Girl: To say she's energetic would be an understatement.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: It's her talent, after all.
  • Kill and Replace: In the Original Timeline, Kinu was murdered by the Copycat Killer, who stole her identity and impersonated her all the way up to their murder by one of the members of Class 76-A in a bunker.
  • Land Down Under: She's Japanese, but she's lived in Australia most of her life.
  • Language Barrier: Kinu's first language is English. While she can understand and speak some Japanese, a lot of her sentences are simplistic and child-like, while in English she speaks a lot more clearly and maturely. This also proved to be her undoing when she met the Copycat Killer, as nobody around could understand what she was saying.
  • Noodle Incident: When Gundham thinks to himself about Monokuma, Kinu agrees and adds that she hasn't trusted mechanical bears ever since an unknown incident at Charlie Cheese's...
  • Raised By Dingoes: When she was a little girl, she ran away from home and ended up in the Outback, where she was taken in by a pack of dingoes. They kept her safe for years, helping her find food while she protected them from poisonous plants and animals, before she was rediscovered by her parents.
  • Super-Senses: Kinu's time with the Dingoes heighted her sense of smell to dog-like levels.
  • Third-Person Person: When she speaks Japanese, she always refers to herself in the third person, despite using first person in English. Justified, given that she hasn't been to Japan since she was a young girl and thus might only remember how to speak that way.
  • Verbal Tic: Often uses "Oooh~!" when she's excited.

Tamon Hideyoshi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_3e49400a41db097bdf229226969d91b4_a84a940d_500.png

Mayumi's older brother and a officer belonging to the Junior Division of the Tokyo Police.

Ayumi Arima

A perky, if a bit socially awkward, young girl. The future Ultimate Game Designer of Class 78-B, Sakura Arima's daughter and cousin of Kenrou Arima, the future Ultimate Equestrian.

    Original Cast

Damian Miraz

A friendly guy with a troubled past and impressive archery skills.

  • Abusive Parents: His father would physically abuse him and his mother. She eventually left, presumably heading back to America, and he focused his attention on Damian.
  • Future Badass:
    • During the Tragedy timeline, he joins up with Shinji's group and goes on to save countless lives.
    • And in the new timeline, he joins the Kisaragi Foundation as a public ranger in 2030. He even manages to save the Cuddle Puddle kids from a Basilisk minion.
  • Idiot Hair: He has two strands on the right side of his head.
  • Master Archer: Damian has the talent worthy of the title Ultimate Archer.
  • Odd Friendship: His time on Sunny Days Vacation Island has helped bring him, Yuki, Kanon, and Kana together as close friends.
  • Ship Tease: He gets a lot with Aiko and it's implied that Kana had feelings for him too.

    The Anons

Anons

Cryptic, unusual beings who consistently interact with the characters of the story by asking questions or bringing up key information to guide their paths.

  • The Gadfly: Are known for making jokes at the Quantum Crew’s expense with mixed results.
  • The Nicknamer: They like to give cute, bemusing or demeaning nicknames for any character. Just ask Hajimemes “Mr. Goth Fetish Octagon Man” Hinata.
  • Shipper on Deck: Highly supportive for anyone involved in a romantic or developing relationship.
  • Skewed Priorities: Early on, one of them encourages Hajime to prevent the Tragedy in order to make sure Persona 5 can come out. Hajime points out that saving the lives of countless people is more important.
  • Supernatural Aid: They likes to give small gifts like delicious foods or new clothes to the cast on occasion.
