Humans
Michael Afton
- Arch-Enemy: The main person Freddy has faced throughout the series, and the one Freddy absolutely despises.
- Character Development: Michael becomes less of a bully and becomes more of an anti-hero, especially once Freddy gets involved.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Michael, while definitely better than his teenager years, is rude and brash to Jeremy whilst he's just trying to stay alive. To be fair, Jeremy does give Michael some of his own slack.
- Adaptational Badass: He straight up shoots Freddy.
- Sarcasm Mode: Goes into this a lot of the time.
- Let's Get Dangerous!: Him among fighting the robots.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Michael after his prank on Evan goes awry.
- Parental Abandonment: Michael and William's relationship was not the best to say the least.
- Starting a New Life: After Michael is arrested in Refurbished, he is forced to start anew from a motel. (Although it can be argued The Bite of 87' did this to him already.)
- Trauma-Induced Amnesia: Michael doesn't remember most of his life after The Bite of 87', but remembers just enough to slip by and remember important details.
- The Fatalist: Michael accepted his fate within Finale's fire.
- Past Experience Nightmare: in Finale, Michael is thrown into a labyrinth of his own mind created by Nightmare, forcing him to traverse through every location seen in the past five books.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Presumably to Henry Emily, as Michael was able to lure himself, RXQ, and the four animatronics to the same room.
Evan Afton
- Kid Hero: Evan is only nine by the time Nightmare begins
- A Birthday, Not a Break: Evan's tenth birthday isn't meant to be a victory over the nightmares, as he's soon fatally injured by Michael's "prank".
- The Strategist: Arguably, Evan is the most strategized out of any human (possibly besides Tracy) in the series, as Michael faces the problem head-on and quickly and Jeremy admittedly doesn't really have a strategy.
- Nightmare Sequence: Pretty much all of Evan's nights.
- Prone to Tears: Evan proves to be very sensitive to his brother (as well as the other neighborhood kids) as well as the animatronics.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: Evan is crushed by Nightmare at the end of the story.
Tracy
- Action Girl: Somebody who's able to take on Death himself and win is definitely respectable.
- Big Sister Instinct: She is this to Aaron, and goes absolutely berserk after Freddy murders him, even trying to kill the bear herself.
- Final Girl: The final protagonist of the series, and one of the most important.
- Trauma Button: After Nightmare makes himself known to her, Tracy immediately gains trauma from her youth.
- Women Are Wiser: Shows herself to be the smartest of the group (consisting of primarily boys)
The Cursed Ones
Jeremy Fitzgerald/RXQFSFASXC
- The Undead: Jeremy has been murdered and forced into the Shadow Bonnie suit, which he's unable to resist due to the agony contained inside.
- Decoy Protagonist: He was believed to be the main protagonist of Withered until Night 4 when Freddy takes him out.
- Death by Adaptation: In Five Nights at Freddy's 2, Jeremy lives to the end, with the possible worst thing happening to him being lobotomized but stilling living, just as a vegetable, but in Withered, he's killed.
- Death by Irony: After Michael mentions Freddy seems to not care too much about Jeremy, guess who arrives to come and murder Jeremy?
- Dressing as the Enemy: He's forced to wear a Freddy mask to survive, which works on everybody except Foxy and Freddy.
- Only Sane Man: While Jeremy is certainly stupid for continuing to return, he is more sane than Michael, who is implied to have been working at the pizzeria for longer than Withered's beginning.
- Rogue Protagonist: He returns as Shadow Bonnie/RXQFSFASXC and while clearly unhappy about what Michael did to him, he's clearly more unhappy with Freddy enough to help Michael escape, not before following him for the rest of the series.
Springtrap/William Afton
- Would Hurt a Child: Duh. It's William Afton.
- Demoted to Dragon: Unlike most FNAF fanfics, William isn't the main antagonist, being replaced with Freddy and Nightmare.
- Fate Worse than Death: William is locked into the springlock suit for 30 years due to Nightmare's meddling.
- Dragged Off to Hell: William's final fate at the end of Springlocked, as he is dragged to hell by Nightmare.
- Archnemesis Dad: William hates Michael with a burning passion.
- Ax-Crazy: Literally. He murders all the animatronics with weapons.
- Faux Affably Evil: As he's the owner of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, it makes sense.
Classic Animatronics
General
- Fluffy the Terrible: The entire cast is cute, fluffy animatronic animals.
- Hostile Animatronics: Duh.
- Artificial Intelligence: All of the robots have sentience gained by agony.
- Yellow/Purple Contrast: Bonnie and Chica share this trope.
- Forced into Evil: All of them except for Freddy, who ironically is the one who forced them into evil.
Freddy Fazbear
- Adaptational Villainy: To say Freddy took this would be an understatement. Upgraded to the main antagonist of the series, he is the sentient homicidal bastard of his group.
- Arch-Enemy: To Michael, and the one Freddy absolutely despises.
- Berserk Button: An unparodied example. His nose is literally a squeaking button that makes him utterly wrathful and flipped out.
- Alliterative Name: Freddy Fazbear.
- Bears Are Bad News: Yep.
- Big Bad: Freddy himself is the big bad of the series, also working as the brute.
- Evil Doppelgänger: Technically the doppelganger of Fredbear, who is kind, caring, and wholesome, compared to Freddy's brutish, brash and outright sadistic behavior.
- Leitmotif: In his introduction during Finale, he hums the tune of "Daisy Bell", albeit changing the lyrics of the last line.
- Evil Genius: Freddy has a high intelligence.
- Evil Laugh: Makes sense, he chuckles a lot.
- Final Boss: He serves as the final antagonist for most of the books, including Finale.
- Sadist: He absolutely loves taunting Michael for his failures, including that of Evan.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: If anything in his plans goes awry (or if his nose is pressed.)
- Villainous Breakdown: Once Michael proves to gain the upperhand, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy have defied the bear, and all odds are stacked against him, Freddy tackles Michael and makes it clear he's done playing games.Freddy: I'm go-going to make your death hu-hurt, ri-right after I get ri-rid of those trai-traitorous fools-!
Bonnie the Bunny
- Anti-Villain: He's forced to follow Freddy's orders, otherwise Freddy will kill him
Chica the Chicken
Foxy the Pirate Fox
- Furry Reminder: Foxy takes this trope as despite being an animatronic, his canine-like instincts still shine through. Throughout Refurbished and Afton, he barks and sometimes even whimpers like how a dog would.
