All hail the Lunar Republic!
Established in January 2014, "Ask Gaming Princess Luna" is an Ask a Pony blog hosted on Tumblr, drawn by (in)famous brony artist John Joseco after the Cancellation of Ask Princess Molestia. It follows the exploits of a dorky Gamer Chick version of Princess Luna from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

Unlike its predecessor, Ask Gaming Princess Luna is specifically stated to be a Safe For Work blog and will not contain the kind of adult content that made Ask Princess Molestia so controversial.

"Ask Troping Princess Luna":

  • April Fools' Day:
    • April 2014 saw the blog briefly become "Ask Gaming Princess Derpy" with Derpy being the Gamer Chick Alicorn Princess and Luna as her pegasus mailmare friend, who also expresses feelings for Derpy.
    • April 2015 had a more subtle example.
    • 2016 had Luna and Celestia remove their wings, horns, and their royal attire and become earth ponies named "Lona" and "Kelestia". Derpy meanwhile became "Darpy", an earth pony mare with normal eyes.
  • Art Evolution: While APM was typically drawn in a simplistic, sketched style with the exception of special occasions, all the posts of this blog have consistently been full-color, high-quality works.
  • Art Shift: The one-year anniversary post was done in a pixelized style reminiscent of 8-bit game graphics. A cropped version focusing on Luna's face became the blog's Tumblr avatar.
  • Badass Cape: Luna sports one in the blog's very first post.
  • The Bus Came Back: Celestia made a return to the blog in the 2014 Mother's Day post, having been found by Fausticorn while wandering between dimensions. It's unknown whether it's Molly from APM, normal Celestia, or Molly from APM whose eons-long wandering has turned her into normal Celestia. It's more likely to be one of the latter two, given this blog's Safe For Work rating. (Given how she remembers Gem, it's probably the last one.)
  • Christmas Episode: Can be seen right here.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Luna expresses romantic feelings for Derpy in the 2014 April Fool's post, she tells Derpy she "wants to be her muffin". Cue Luna having been transformed into a giant muffin a couple of posts later.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Derpy appears to have shades of this.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Derpy has this reaction when she sees Luna as a Breezy.
  • Deep-Immersion Gaming: Inherited from APM, Luna and Derpy are occasionally shown with this trope in effect.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Luna accidentally admits to watching football for hot sweaty stallions.
  • Drinking Game: Luna and Derpy engage in one while watching the Microsoft press conference at 2017's E3, taking a shot whenever the terms "4K" and "exclusive" are mentioned, with predictable results...
  • Easter Egg: Some of the game titles in the crawler listing the games Derpy was playing for the 2014 April Fool's Day were quite obviously fictional, including titles like "Adventures of Sun Butt", "Alicorn Princess Maker", and "Super Table-Flip", just to name a few.
  • Extra Eyes: This post shows Luna encountering a dragon-like monstrosity that appears to have four eyes.
  • Feather Motif: A single white feather was used to tease at the possibility of Celestia returning, then a flurry of them brought the trope into full effect when she finally appeared.
  • Forced Transformation: One of the April Fool's Day posts showed Luna having been transformed into a giant muffin by Derpy, as explained in Comically Missing the Point above.
  • Gamer Chick: Luna, naturally.
    • Derpy as well to a lesser extent.
    • Also Belle Eve, the ponysona of the NeoGAF forums who joined Luna and Derpy for the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Luna gets these when asked about what taking over the world would entail in the Shout-Out entry below.
  • Gratuitous German: One post had this trope in effect when Luna and Derpy wished a happy birthday to Canni, the mascot pony of Galacon, a German brony convention.
  • Hand Gagging: Derpy does a variation of this; stuffing a muffin in Luna's mouth to bring her back to her senses when Luna goes crazy over the games revealed during Sony's press conference at 2014's E3.
  • Head Desk: Does this in response to the Nintendo Direct conference during 2017's E3 when bemoaning the fact that none of the announced games would be out until late October 2017 at the earliest.
  • Identity Amnesia: Played with. After she returned from eons of wandering, Celestia was found to have lost large sections of her memory, resulting in a personality that was much closer to canon!Celestia than to Molly. However, after Celestia rediscovers her love of cake, some of Molly's mannerisms start to resurface.
  • Jump Scare: Luna claims to be unfazed by these due to her role as Princess of the night and her time as Nightmare Moon.
  • Kissing Under the Influence: Luna gets a double dose of this from both Derpy and Celestia in the 2016 New Year's post.
  • Lighter and Softer: While the previous blog was already lighter and softer that was a satirical take on an over-the-top perverted Princess Celestia, here it's more safe for work with the humour being less Black Comedy Rape and more of a Slice of Life feel.
  • Messy Mane:
  • Misaimed Fandom: In-Universe. Luna makes fun of the Sonic Boom character designs by showing us her interpretation of what Derpy would look like if designed similarly (a lankier frame, four wings, a scar on her face, a scarf, tons of bandages and belts, etc.). However, Derpy herself loves it.
Derpy: Waaah! I look so cooool!
Luna: N-no, Derpy! You're not supposed to like it!
  • Nerds Are Sexy: Luna unwittingly plays to this trope when she dons a pair of red-framed glasses at the request of a reader.
  • Ocular Gushers: Luna exhibits this trope upon being reunited with Celestia.
  • Oh, Crap!: Luna has this reaction when Derpy shows her all the mail she's gotten within just a few days of the blog going live.
  • The Prankster: Luna intends to pull this on some unfortunate guards when she becomes Nightmare Moon in this post.
    • Celestia appears to be turning into this since her return, though her antics are much tamer than in the past...
  • Put on a Bus: Celestia didn't make any appearances in the blog at all until Mother's Day 2014. It was later revealed that Celestia's disappearance was caused by the Big Red Button Luna pushed in the last installment of Ask Princess Molestia. At first this trope was only implied, but later updates reveal that Luna had no idea where her sister was.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Luna states in this post that part of her duties as a Princess used to involve her hunting down various dangerous creatures that could threaten Equestria.
  • Scarf Of Ass Kicking: Luna dons one when playing the 2014 version of Strider.
  • Sick Episode: This post shows Luna taking care of Derpy when she fell ill.
  • Sequel Series: To Ask Princess Molestia.
  • Shout-Out: Luna's dialogue in this post is a reference to Galadriel's from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
  • Sinister Scythe: Luna wields one when playing Bloodborne.
  • Stealth Pun: As in his previous blog (and a lot of John Joseco's pony artwork in general), Luna can occasionally be seen with her mane tied up in a ponytail.
  • Swapped Roles: Luna and Derpy in the aforementioned 2014 April Fool's Day installments.
  • Timey-Wimey Ball: Fausticorn explains that while Celestia was gone for only a few months from Luna's perspective, it was more like eons for Celestia. What effects this will have on Celestia are yet to be seen.
  • Under the Mistletoe: Happens to Luna and Derpy in this post.
  • Wingding Eyes:
    • Luna gets hearts in her eyes when mentioning Star Wars Battlefront II during her and Derpy's recap of the EA Play at E3 2017.
    • She likewise quite literally gets starry-eyed over the games announced in Nintendo's Let's Play.
  • Winged Unicorn:
    • Derpy becomes one of these during the 2014 April Fool's post, having been given a horn and made an alicorn like Luna, who meanwhile averts this trope as she's lost her horn and become a pegasus instead.
    • 2016's April Fools posts invert this by having Luna and Celestia remove their wings and horns (along with their royal regalia) and become earth ponies.
  • You Are Fat: Fausticorn's parting words to Luna in the 2014 Mother's Day post are for her to lay off the junk food as she's "developing a pudge".
