Has the best action in a movie I've ever seen.

That being said, Man of Steel has some glaring flaws that made me only remember the movie for the action, except for a few things.

The beginning of the movie with Krypton in crisis has some pretty narmy dialogue and one of the most impressive fight scenes in the entire movie, Jor-El vs Zod. The problem with that fight is that it undermined Zod's status as a total badass but it did surprise me later on in the movie when he gains it back with his One Winged Angel transformation. A decent start to a movie.

And then hit the rest of the first half, which I consider to be the most confusing part of the movie. It tries to use the Batman Begins method of using flashbacks to tell an origin story, but it's so poorly done in this movie that I was confused as to which scenes are flashbacks and which are not. It stabilizes later on when Lois Lane is introduced to the movie.

The second half contains the most action packed scenes I have ever seen in a blockbuster, beating out the Avengers. There's just so much Scenery Gorn, you can't look away from it. However, that is not a good thing. It got so drawn out and overly long that it was like watching a Dragon Ball Z episode, but with no dialogue to it. By the time Superman has to twist Zod's neck to save a family, I didn't give a damn whether they died or not. So many people died in the destruction of Metropolis and Smallville. Why should I care about the safety of an ordinary and plot-unimportant family? Oh, and Superman's scream after killing Zod was Narm due the lack of empathy towards it.

I would like to point out that the humor is either pretty cringe-inducing or inappropriate to the tone of the scene at the time. Lois Lane's attempts at being a Deadpan Snarker just come off as too mean spirited or make her look like a bitch. I still remember the "measuring dicks" line because of that. And the scene where the cute military captain admits to fangirling over Superman made her look very incompetent at her job.

Man of Steel could have been a good movie, but it's too serious for its own good. I couldn't treat this movie like it was Batman Begins and instead increased my suspension of belief to an action-loving but apathetic level, especially when the final fight scene begins.

Just so you know, I've never watched any of the original Superman movies in full.

By the way, I liked the characters of Zod, Colonel Hardy, and Professor Hamilton. They were more down to Earth and disadvantaged than Superman himself.

Zod, who lost everything, is still determined to be the Knight Templar he was born to be and his slips into complete despair were turned into great rage and anger.

Colonel Hardy and Professor Hamilton are normal humans that took extreme risks to do what they think is the only option in front of them. The former tries to fight Faora who was standing in front of him. He knows that she can flash step and so he used all his courage to fight her on his own terms, which Faora respects. He runs away later the second time they meet so he can pilot the ship and Faora doesn't think of flash stepping him. The latter is well-meaning and tempered and made the ultimate sacrifice of activating the Phantom Zone bomb.

Yeah. After you've seen Superman battle a man with nuclear fingernails, you'll know why this movie pales by comparison.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Pretty much sounds like me. Never watched the original films, but this film felt a bit too serious.

I need to watch the originals. The first two anyway, I've been warned about 3 and 4.
