Just removed this entry:
- Unfortunate Implications: Despite Blizzard's claims of the game being progressive, they still haven't confirmed any of the other LGBT+ characters that their writing team promised existed, haven't yet removed Symmetra's Devi skin despite the explicit request of an actual religious leader, and most unfortunate of all have made the majority of the game's main playable villain faction non-white* . This has lead to a portion of the fanbase cooling on, or even dropping the game.
Is this an actual complain from a sector of the fanbase or just the troper who wrote this has a problem with this? I feel it's too overly complainy.
Uni cat Hide / Show RepliesUnfortunate Implications requires a citation from a reputable source, anyway, so it's a moot point.
I’ve litterally never seen anyone complain about these things beyond very limited circles.
I've seen plenty of complaints about the lack of LGBTQ characters (Blizzard did, after all, promise multiple LGBTQ characters and has only so far revealed one LG character, albeit the poster girl, and it's only come up in one comic and a few lines of dialogue in the game) from multiple places. The criticisms began on launch, and continued after Tracer was announced. One could easily throw a stone and find one, but here's one example here (the reveal of the game's poster girl being revealed as gay is praised, but it notes that it's still just one kiss, several months after the game's releasenote and the lack of any sign of non-LG LGBTQ characters).
Symmetra's skin caused quite a significant outcry from some religious leaders, but I don't think I've seen many thinkpieces on it, just news. Kotaku: Hindu Leader Wants Blizzard To Drop Symmetra's Devi Skin From Overwatch
The complaints about the majority of POC characters being in the villainous faction isn't really one I've seen that often. But there was plenty of commentary about Doomfist being a ScaryBlackMan who leads it on his launch in the form of articles, complaints and complaints about complaints.
I'd also add that Fasoman's "Yeah because revealing tracer as homosexual wasn't enough." edit reason, makes no sense. O_o
As Nubian said, it's all moot unless there's a citation for it, so, let's take it to the thread.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerYeah, the implication of "we've got one gay character now, and that's enough" made me groan a little.
Sorry if i offended anyone. It's just that the issue at hand is how poorly the lore has been handled lately (Primarely too many retcons and "common misconceptions") that listing complaints about not enough LGBT characters feels very silly in comparison.
I would personally prioritize fleshing out more characters' backstories (D.Va, Lucio and Zenyatta for example) than just learning about their sexuality. Just my two cents.
Uni cat1. A character's sexuality is a pretty big part of their life (and thus their backstory).
2. Maybe it's silly to you; for a lot of fans it's quite important.
3. They aren't in any way mutually exclusive.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerRegarding the Spotlight-Stealing Squad. I feel like the trope is in effect because the story is supposed to be about Overwatch making its return, and technically it has. They just haven't done anything and we know virtually nothing about it over a year since the Recall short where Winston reinstated the organization. For example, we don't even know if the members that were recalled (besides Tracer) actually accepted the call, which to me is a little ridiculous.
Meanwhile, we've seen plenty of Talon and have learned far more about them than the new Winston-led Overwatch. I'm not saying that Talon focus is bad, but I feel it's a Spotlight-Stealing Squad when the main organization, the namesake of the franchise, is Out of Focus in the meantime.
What do you guys think about this?
Edited by StrangeThoughts Hide / Show RepliesSounds a little presumptuous, because I think the current story's just moving slowly at this point, but it's probably only going to keep focus on Talon for now because there probably won't be much to explore regarding Overwatch's reformation without the grand threat of the villain faction being established. I expect that once we get the ball rolling in that regard, then other characters will start getting more exploration.
Thanks for playing King's Quest V!Well they've said that things are about to get serious. I hope that means we'll see Overwatch soon, or else we'll be discussing this again.
Also, I'd like to point out that something isn't right when we don't even know who the members of the new Overwatch are. That tells me they haven't been focusing on them enough, and it'll be probably if they only keep focusing on Talon. Cause then, why would the story be called Overwatch when Talon might as well be the Villain Protagonist of the setting?
There's a point to be made that at the start of the game, the primary "antagonist" faction had only two members and minimal characterization.
I think I'd instead argue that we're in the midst of a Villain Episode, establishing what Talon is and stands for (Social Darwinist true believers, profiteers who pay lip-service to the latter to line their own pockets, people only allied with them for their own ends, and people who want to spit on Overwatch's grave) and have set about making characters that represent all of these things. In the process, they've tried to make their one-note bad guys just a bit deeper than just being evil.
Establishing the threat Winston's new Overwatch will face is not grounds for arguing they're taking over the story. And the reason we know little about that new Overwatch is that he's still forming it.
Edited by SpectralTimeSpotlight-Stealing Squad is not a YMMV trope. If it's here, it's being misused and/or is too contested to be an example.
Regarding Emergency/Emergenji/Gency and Dry Docked Ship: I was under the impression that the trope referred to two characters that were assumed to be a couple but definitively no longer could be. The example provided seems to suggest that a fanon interpretation of "Genji not returning Mercy's affection until after he figured out his feelings about his new body" would fit this trope, but that doesn't seem related to the actual trope description. I'm deleting it, but am open to revising that if anyone has any further thoughts about whether or not it's the best fit here.

So...roughly a month ago, most of the examples on the page were heavily rewritten. Several posters (including myself) said that the page needed to be reexamined to determine if the reworked page had issues or not.
Are we still doing that? Because if so, we need to get started.
