Re cut request: In light of the number of inbounds, perhaps a redirect would be appropriate?

I can't believing I'm doing this all in the name of a dick joke.

Queenofdragons 6 told me the extremely phallic sihoulette during Mettaton EX's intro is where the sprites overlap, but in my careful research of doing all this for the sake of a gay sex robot dick joke, Mettaton's legs falling off are too sharp and edged to form a sprite overlap. Combine this with the obvious sexual innuendo of Mettaton EX's dialogue and fight, and, uh... yeah. I had to do this just to prove the gay dick joke is there. Please kill me.

What's everyone's opinion on the Discount Lesbians trope in Undertale? I initially added it, but it was later removed, with the message:

""Discount Lesbians" is not just a catch-all name to all non-human LGBT+ peeps, it's about characters who's inhumaness makes it so it doesn't really "count" (like Gems in SU actually being genderless aliens) - Undertale Monsters don't really fit here, IMHO"

It could be argued that Undertale's overall child-friendliness provides incentive to leave the possibility of gay characters not really "counting," which is what I had in mind when I made the entry. (Perhaps it helps to remember that similar problems have been encountered at least as recently as Adventure Time.)

I agree that it doesn't feel like an example, and that maybe there'd be more of a case if the game had more human characters than Frisk and the Fallen Child - as it is, there being nonhuman nonheterosexual characters seems more like a case of "the characters just happen to be both of those things" than either fact meaning anything in combination with the other.

I think you can make a decent case for that about the relationships between monsters. But what about the fact that to get the true pacifist ending you have to date both male and female characters? To me it didn't feel alienating because those characters were monsters.

Discount Lesbians really requires some excuse that makes them "not really lesbians" due to Bizarre Alien Biology or some such. There's no indication in Undertale that Undyne and Alphys don't both "count" as females.

Does Composite Character only count if you're talking about characters within the same franchise? Because I couldn't help but notice that practically everything about Flowey/Asriel's character, from his backstory to his motivation to the way both of his battles play out, is taken from at least one of the three main antagonists from Mother - Giygas, Porky, and Claus. To be honest, the only thing about him that seems completely original about him under this lens is his physical appearance, and even then, he still has Claus' fashion sense in his goat boy form. Undertale is very clearly an homage to MOTHER, so what do you guys think?

I don't think it applies at all. Composite Character is an adaptation trope, and Undertale is a pastiche of the Mother games, not an adaptation from one medium to another or a reboot of the franchise.

Furthermore, when you use a composite character, you attribute the actions of several characters in the original to a single individual in the adaptation (which is usually a specific character from the original.) Flowey simply mashes up conceptual bits and pieces from different bosses, which makes him an homage, but not a composite character.

Does Four-Philosophy Ensemble really apply to Undertale? It's not an ensemble cast in the first place, and the discussion leaves a good half of the main cast out in the cold.
