Glad to know you think Satan is good.

Hide / Show RepliesWhy do we have both a New Media and Web Original when they're effectively interchangeable?

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanDoes this Trope include having the supposedly satanic figure turn out to not be Satan while the evil tyrant we thought was God is in fact the real Satan(who duped the fake Satan into thinking he's the real Satan)? Is that a subversion or an inversion?
Hide / Show RepliesThat sounds like a different trope altogether. This trope is about the alignment of Satan.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe God of the Old Testament is, quite frankly, a God I'd have gladly joined Satan in fighting. Wasn't it a death penalty offense to wear cotton with wool?
Anyone who wouldn't rebel against a god like that is an idiot.
Hide / Show RepliesNot to mention that he was disliked enough that Satan was able to get 1/3 of the angels to rebel. But that doesn't necessarily mean Satan is a good guy, just look at what he did to Job (just because it was with God's permission doesn't change anything) or (if we're counting NT) the prophecies of Revelation.
Part of me wants to see a work where Satan is essentially the Bad Cop of the Good Cop/Bad Cop routine.
Hide / Show RepliesArguably that is the case in The Book Of Job (depending on how you interpret it).
Edit, edit, edit, edit the wikiI wonder if any Fan Works have ever combined this Trope with any of the fictional Satan Stand ins that appear in Cyrstal Dragon Jesus cosmologies, like Morgoth.
Hide / Show RepliesIt's Morgoth. Tolkien has been ridden over so many times by the Fan Fic brigade that I'm pretty sure you could find Fan Fic pairing Morgoth and Sauron!
... Oh, god. There's fanfic pairing Morgoth and Sauron, isn't there?
"Maybe his loss in the war with God/the gods was the original Downer Ending, and the bastards who did win have been tarring him with the propaganda brush ever since. Wouldn't that be a Mind Screw?"
Mind Screw, indeed.

2 Corinthians 11:14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Though he is really the prince of darkness, Satan successfully presents himself as “an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14).
Satan is a master of misrepresentation. He is the world’s greatest advertiser, packaging his product so it seems attractive and appealing, while in reality it is poisonous and deadly. He wants his clients to see him as good, beneficent and trustworthy. He wants his product—sin and rejection of God—to appear enticing and inviting, and he is usually quite successful.
So many people dismiss the Bible as fiction while the truth of it is revealed all around them every day!!
