Why was this name changed? It seems rather counter-productive. What do I think when I read "If You Know What I Mean"? I think of someone using that as innuendo. What do I think when I read "Nudge"? Somebody nudging someone else in the side.

Possibly because some people were using "if you know what i mean" overly literally, as any allusion even non-sexual) that isn't 100% spelled out.
This doesn't lend itself to abuse as well, but it's also pretty crappy for the right kind of use.
