I completely agree. I know that Tropes Are Flexible but corporal punishment as such exists on a wide spectrum and belting is part of that continuum. If we allow Don't Make Me Take My Belt Off! to cover beatings using implements other than belts (or even beatings that don't involve belts), and if it is not clear whether this subtrope of Corporal Punishment involves a specific trigger for the parent to qualify, then I think we should either define this trope more narrowly/specifically, or else merge it into Corporal Punishment.
Edited by errachtI know we don't apply the same standards as Wikipedia, but the text could use a rewrite. This is American/Euro-centric: "Values Dissonance tends not to be called out, (like other forms of punishment/abuse) because of how common an occurrence this trope was in Real Life for anyone born before the last couple of decades, and how common it is in certain cultures. Heck, many parents still use spanking today, despite the current culture drifting against it."
While pointing out Values Dissonance it ignores diversity even within western culture, and then uses phrases like "certain cultures" and "current culture" as if American/Euro culture is the "main culture" of the entire world, and that certain other cultures represent a small subset of the population or are somehow "different" from "us".
Is there an instance in Detective Conan where Kogoro uses a belt? I only remember hard noogies and dope slaps.
Removed from Sinbad example. This is Natter or Thread Mode — quotes have different format and should have context.
- "LORD JESUS CHRIST! PLEASE DON'T LET ME KILL THIS CHILD!"
- "Hit me once - *pft!* - Butt fell right off."
- "Boy, don't you ruuuuuuuuuuuuuun from me!!"
- "It's your momma's hand, man! Your momma's hand! Just run! Drop your butt and]] RUN!"
- "LORD JESUS CHRIST! PLEASE DON'T LET ME KILL THIS CHILD!"
Feel free to edit it back to the main article, but do it proper.
Hide / Show Replies- Asian mothers use the basic but terrifying method of smacking their children or using an extremely hard Dope Slap. The fathers are the ones who actually use belts—but strangely, never on any daughters they have.
This was taken from stand up comedy folder. I failed to see there the comedic bit or who the comedian was. If you know, please put it back.
How does this warrant a separate page from "corporal punishment"? If it was specifically about belt spankings it would make sense, but many of the examples (including the page image) don't involve belts at all.
