Jogarz is also violating proper Example Indentation, though there are multiple cases of that on the page.

I hate to tell you this, but if it was added, removed, re-added, re-removed, and so on, then yes it IS actually an edit war, even if it's not the same person each time.

That said, that first one there is very problematic. As someone who knows a lot of Vikings in real life, I can tell you while it is admittedly true that some white nationalist groups say that they identify with the Vikings, modern Vikings ARE NOT the same thing neo-Nazis. They do not follow Adolf Hitler. They do not hate Jews. They do not "train to overthrow America." They are people who are proud of their heritage and want to be left alone. They despise Nazis every bit as much as anyone else does, and for good reason. The whole "all Vikings are Nazis" thing is a malicious stereotype and should not be up on the site.

^ Technically not; edit war, by our definition, requires the same people adding and removing things.

To make it more clear what I mean-

Saying that the game is Unfortunate Implications because it whitewashes the legitimate bad acts that the Vikings actually did is fair (and also something I felt like when I watched the game being played - never technically played it myself). Even among modern Vikings I doubt you'll find too many people who won't agree with you that raiding and pillaging and slaving was legitimately a bad thing to do. At best they accept it as an unfortunate fact of history that should be moved on from.

On the other hand, saying that it's Unfortunate Implications because "as we all know, all Vikings are Nazis!" is...

1. ...irrelevant because the fact of some neo-Nazi groups choosing to identify with the Vikings is tangentially related to the game at best and completely off-topic at worst. It would be like calling Men in Black Unfortunate Implications because the main character is black, and some black people are Black Panthers.

2. ...an extremely racist stereotype which is, and I say this with absolute sincerity, every bit as offensive to certain people as the N word.

Even if you have a citation from a credible gaming journalist publication, this should not be up. It's wrong and only going to invite controversy.

Well, can't speak much on the game or Viking culture or whatever (and I'd prefer to not have another goddamn flame war, so maybe cool that whole "as offensive as the N word" thing since that's just a loaded comparison in any situation), but the Unfortunate Implications entries just look poorly done regardless:

  • First bullet point uses a single Twitter account as a citation which doesn't amount to much, and the implications also seem contradictory - it's bad because it's stereotyping Vikings, but also bad because it's glorifying Vikings which are also inherently Nazi symbols now?
  • Second bullet point at least makes more sense but I'm not sure about it, and I feel like "doesn't go into detail about how oppressive this group was" isn't really enough for UI (as that could apply to, like....every single positive period piece), but the whole colonization angle sounds like there is an actual poor implication there, maybe?
  • Third bullet is unsourced and poorly indented, with no citation elaborating how Catholics found the game offensive.

Edited by mightymewtron I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
