It makes sense on stuff like Dethroning Moment of Suck where each troper only gets one per work, and signing is the only way to make sure of that.
But I don't see why it's necessary here.
Maybe a mod can answer?

It's not necessary, but I guess it would be helpful in case you wanted to message the person who added the page to help you make it.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
I don't know, but the request to sign has been there since 2008
, though it wasn't mentioned in the YKTTW draft that suggested the idea.
Since this was when Unknown Tropers were still allowed, maybe it was... something related to that...? I dunno.
I guess we could ask the outdated pages thread whether we actually care about this at all or not.
Asked in that thread. In the meantime, I went back and signed most of my entries that I just added, in case it's helpful.
I dunno why but I guess it’s helpful in knowing if pages you want were made.
