Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I removed the wicks (since it's not a trope) and cutlisted the redirect. The redirect doesn't need to stay up for a new trope to be launched with that name, and whether we already have that trope would be a question for Trope Finder.
Edit: Give me a bit and I'll sandbox the wicks I removed.
Edit: Here: Sandbox.Rebel Without A Cause. I omitted wicks that were for the film and just needed the namespace to be changed.
Edited by GastonRabbit Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I've seen work pages being linked to as if they were tropes. I think it happens when people see a blue link and don't check it, interpreting it instead solely by its title - which judging by TRS experience is very common. I've turned this redirect into a disambiguation before seeing this query.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI didn't know about the Terrorists Without a Cause page when I cutlisted Main.Rebel Without A Cause. I'm fine with disambiguating since that trope exists.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I do think Rebel Without A Cause is a distinct idea on its own, though, so I’m wondering if that’d be a viable idea for a trope.
back lolIt happens for a work title to be used as if it were a trope by some editors not looking past what evoke the name.
This is a recurring problem for Lone Wolf notably, even after the Main/ redirect was cut. I regularly do clean-up of this title.
^^ We have Rebellious Spirit that seems to convey the idea indicated by the trope name. Besides, it's not like rebels (especially the "rebellious teenager" variety) typically have a cause beyond not wanting to obey rules.
Edited by Adept~MaLady has a cleanup thread for exactly this problem.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Is it worth keeping the disambig for only about 300 inbounds?
^^ - Yep, I do.
I guess I thought it was already fixed? OR a redirect to an existing trope?
WHOOPS! Just bad formatting. It's right after "The Racoons"...
... So.... Cool People Rebel Against Authority as another target?
^ - And yes. If it's a sensible redirect to any known trope, because it's also a work name.
Edited by Malady Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576^ It's no a redirect to anything, it's a separate page. It also, like all disambig pages, cannot be linked to on this, so it's only purpose is catching inbounds. I'm asking if preserving those 300 links is worth keeping it as a blue link that will make people mistake it for a trope.
Adding Cool People Rebel Against Authority to the disambiguation page sounds like a good idea.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.^^ - Yes, but if it were a name that made sense as a redirect to something, but since it's also the name of a work, it should be a disambig.

Today, I discovered Main.Rebel Without A Cause. The page itself is actually just a redirect to the film Rebel Without a Cause. Since we don’t want Main redirect like this, I thought that I should clean out the wicks and cutlist the redirect.
However, looking through the Main.Rebel Without A Cause wicks, I discovered something really strange: most of the wicks used the redirect as if it were a trope page for some reason.
Do we have an actual trope like this? If not, then maybe the redirect could become an actual trope (although it would still have to be cut and launched through the TLP)?
