Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
To be fair, this isn't limited to the reviewer pages. Lots of the TV entries list entire episodes. However I think episodes might count as moments, as long as you don't list the entire movie/season?
Edited by mightymewtron I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Yeah, entire reviews/episodes can count as "moments" there as they are sub-parts of a larger work. Citing an entire season however is questionable and citing the entire work right out. Use reviews for these.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynmaneta: Actually, whole episodes are also questionable. Better to ask on the discussion page about whether they are OK.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMy previous post was lost in the crash, but an issue with listing whole episodes is that the examples often include multiple moments from those episodes.
I think when we last discussed this, we figured it depends on the scope of the media. Like if there are only a few videos then one video doesn’t count as a moment but if it's a long runner then one video can be considered a moment.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Right. My take is that it's relative. 1 movie in a trilogy is too much of the work. 1 episode in a long running series isn't.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness^Question about that:
- If there are too few works/episodes to count it as a moment but enough are made after, does it retroactively become valid or is it still disqualified? (Before the crash is was argued 1 work in a 3-part series was too long, but 1 from a 10-part is legit.)
- I was told in prior cleanup no listing the same moment unless giving a new reason. If a whole episode is listed how can new moments from it be added? (Here it is. Granted it may have been due to the exceptionally controversial situation at the time.)
The Dethroning Moment of Suck page states under the rules "Specific moments only. Don't just say something like, "Everything he said," or "The whole movie/episode."" The "/episode part" was added Apr 23rd 2014 by Harryhenry, which I think predates cleanup efforts. Was this a legit addition? Here is where cleanup stated it should be moments only.
I personally think the single moment only is the best check to keeps it constructive criticism and not the bashing/complaining that led to Wall Banger being cut. I would be open to allowing episodes or equivalents if:
- If the episode is listed as a moment, the entry should be limed to a single reason they think why.
- We have clear rules for what counts as a moment lengthwise (like x% of the works length) that the episode falls under.
- The work is so short (less than 5 minutes, a few paragraphs) it can't be divided into moments.
Or since we're talking about reviews, maybe since they are not narratives (which are composed of many moments) they can be treated as a single moment.
Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtThe reason it states specific moments is to avoid ZCE where people say "The whole episode" and leave it at that. I've never heard that the same moment can't be listed by multiple people as long as they're consolidated, as while it does make sense I've never seen it really enforced. However there is a valid point that some pages may get clogged by particularly loathsome episodes.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.- Blazer: Top 10 Magical Girls in Anime is painful and rife with mistakes on all ends. Their main rule is "magical girl in the traditional sense", which disqualifies wizards and witches... yet somehow friggin' Sakura Kinomoto herself is on the list as well as the characters from Fate Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya while people will happily declare that those like Ezra Scarlet and the heroines of Magic Knight Rayearth don't count. They include Cutey Honey despite the fact that she's an android that uses undefined Phlebotinum and Utena Tenjou who isn't actually a Magical Girl. Then, there's the entry for Nanoha Takamachi, where the narrator describes the original storyline while showing scenes from StrikerS which showcase scenes with Subaru!
It sounds like an example of whole reviews being used as moments. It subdivides into 10 moments, is 12 minutes long, and is out of over 12,000 such videos. Thoughts about this? Maybe a top X review doesn't count but a single work being reviewed counts as a single moment.
And thoughts about making a Dethroning Moment cleanup thread? We can better figure out what does or doesn't count as a moment or other issues. What counts seems like the case by case thing that's the best fit for a thread?
I noticed that several examples of Dethroning Moments on Web Original reviewers that list whole reviews as examples. This seems to violate the "Moments only" rule.
