Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Yes, that is misuse. They are not characters and they are not part of an ensemble.
Yes, those are misuse. Like homogenized said, not only are those examples entire species, they're not even characters and can't qualify as EDH.
Edited by WarJay77 Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWould anyone mind if I showed tropineasily this thread to show him what everyone else thinks of these entries?
Edited by PlasmaPower Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!I think it would be a good idea. I can go either way on these entries as I'm not familiar enough with the trope to judge, btw.
Edited by Piterpicher Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods Of Incremental)I do believe that there's a difference between classifying a group of individual characters as EDH and classifying a group of identical copies, that have no individual characteristics, as EDHs. With that said, as things stand both these groups are invalid entries, and so I support what others have said here.
Just for the record regarding a previous discussion about Ensemble Darkhorses for Animal Crossing games.
Link to a previous discussion is here.
I went and deleted these from Ensemble Dark Horse because they were groups of characters. However, ~tropineasily sent me a notifier because apparently nothing is said that entire species can’t be E Ds. I thought there was some agreement a while ago that entire groups like this can’t be considered E Ds, because each individual was different in popularity. Also the fact that these species aren’t actually characters. Here’s the entries I deleted:
YMMV.Animal Crossing New Horizons
Ensemble Dark Horse:
- A unique fan favorite is the snapping turtle, a new "fish" catchable in rivers. Unlike other fish, the turtle is not kept in a tank when displayed in the player's home or outside, and instead sits on the ground freely. This has caused many players to treat the turtle like a pet in their homes, giving the turtle its own room.
- Of all things, the tarantula became unexpectedly popular among fans thanks to its spawn months being pushed back in the Northern Hemisphere from the summer months to November-April, leading to people who bought the game on or just after its March 2020 launch day being blindsided by these things that can charge at and knock out an unsuspecting player at night (to say nothing of the rare Nook Miles island that spawns nothing but tarantulas). As a result, the tarantula became a popular subject of fanart, with popular subjects including selling off boatloads of tarantulas to Timmy and Tommy, the Nooks keeping tarantulas as pets, and Celeste trolling Blathers with one. It helps that unlike the scorpion (which appears in November-April for Southern Hemisphere players), the tarantula has an Ugly Cute appeal to it, with its pudgy, rounded design offsetting the fact that it's a hairy, venomous spider as big as a player character's face. Finally, tarantulas sell for thousands of Bells each, making them one of the best ways to make money outside of turnips.
