The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
No, that's not a Shout-Out. Not surd what trope this is, but Shout-Out is when there's a direct reference: quotes, mentioning the title, describing the plot, inserting signature items present in the other title etc.
Space Battles Dot Com fanworks (unnoficial) index in my Sandbox.Hilarious in Hindsight is often used for "thing from a work of fiction that is unintentionally very similar to thing from another work of fiction that was created later".
That's a situation with enough Truth in Television to need Word of God about whether its a shoutout or not- the reason it popped up in Oregon Trail is that the river crossings really were some of the most perilous parts of the journey. (The people who express disbelief at people drowning in two-foot deep rivers in the game clearly have never gone rafting or canoeing- "shallow part of the river with solid bed" and "rapids" have significant overlap)
Edited by Scorpion451It wouldn't be Hilarious in Hindsight since the book series is from the 2010's. I think it's just not a trope. :|
And yeah, Scorpion, river crossings were definitely a thing. Reading these books is making me really glad we have bridges nowadays.
Edited by Mimic1990Hilarious in Hindsight also needs a connecting factor, otherwise it's just "this thing happened, then this other thing happened."
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure Pureness
I'm working on a page for Chance And Choices Adventures novel series. As of the second book (of five, so far) a major element is the characters traveling the country in wagons, and there are numerous scenes of the characters having to go through river crossings, sometimes with disastrous results.
It reminds me a LOT of Oregon Trail, so much so that I originally listed it under Shout-Out... but I don't think it counts because I'm fairly certain it's unintended. I feel like this would be some form of Audience Reactions, but I have no idea what it might be. It might even be Not A Trope...
Anyone have any idea?
