Speaking anecdotally, I doubt anyone I know would be able to name any of the Jonas Brothers, but I do think most of them would be vaguely aware that they were a boy band.

So broadly speaking I can see where the example is coming from, but it's a bit exaggerated.

Well, I do recall them from these way-too-heavy-on-romance-and-way-too-thin-on-other-aspects-of-adolescence teen shows. So. But I only recall one or two names.

That said, it's a massive shoehorn.

It doesn't matter that they're irrelevant now, what matters is them trying to stay relevant during the show's run. Basically it's shoehorning (the already overly-broad, in my opinion) Unintentional Period Piece into a more negative item.

I'd honestly say delete that whole example. Nowadays you don't see them trying to advertise their previous work, which would be correct usage. No, Kevin has disappeared from the limelight, Nick is on Broadway, and Joe is in DNCE
