Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
- Subdiving folders further is probably fine, personally to me it makes no difference.
- Subsplitting between Old Testament, New Testament and Great Testament is intriguing, but the issue is that those aren't independant subseries and the page is for the series overall. Recap.A Certain Magical Index kinda already does the job. And spoilers are already hidden (if not, they should be). If people want to avoid later information at all, they shouldn't be on the page in the first place.
- ROCEJ is more like political statements bias slipping into examples, you're thinking of Speculative Troping. If Kuroko Shirai isn't shown to be a lesbian, then the page shouldn't say so, and this would be Ambiguously Gay.
Hey, thanks for responding!
- I gotcha; I'm leaning to the side of subdividing just a bit more (maybe to like 5 folders), but I might wait to hear what others think first.
- Yeah, as I mentioned, I played with the idea of subsplitting before I realised there'd be too many tropes that are applicable between different series to make it worth it. Sorry to the anime-onlys (but hey, maybe it'd incentivise them to read onto NT and GT?)
- Mind further explaining what 'shown' means for this case? Kuroko's attraction for Mikoto is pretty undeniable and she partakes in multiple acts to show it, but it's muddied by the fact it's targeted at only Mikoto (there are two other girls that she associates with, neither of them she shows interest in). If you're willing, maybe read through her character entry — would you think it'd work if I took all mentions of her being 'lesbian' and instead put it under Ambiguously Gay (or at the very least, Single-Target Sexuality) instead?
On the third point, I feel like a change like that would be good to bring up in the discussion page first. People tend to get touchy about the topic of orientation.
For the record, in the work in question, Kuroko is shown to be obessively lusting over Mikoto, but she never shows interest in any other girls (possibly excepting Mikoto's mother), and in one case of memory loss even loses her lust for the character along with her memories, which would suggest Single-Target Sexuality to me.
Just posted a discussion, but I'll be honest, not sure whether I'll get responses (it didn't happen last time).
Would I be allowed to go ahead with the edits if I don't get any responses within a certain time frame (e.g. a week)?
That looks like an example of Single-Target Sexuality.
I'd say it's fair to make the changes after some time since nobody's disagreed with your proposals.
Hello, inexperienced Troper/editor here
Wanted to ask if some people could take a look at the main page for A Certain Magical Index that I've been adding to recently so that I can get a second opinion as to whether the tropes section should further be split into more folders for ease of reading (currently, only 4 folders are in use). For those familiar with this work, I also posted a question as to whether the the page should be further compartmentalized into different series (OT, NT, and GT) so that those who have only caught up to the anime aren't being bombarded with examples and spoilers from the novels, but I then realised that different tropes are used by different series, so I'm not quite sure how that'd work. Would love if people had some suggestions.
Last thing I want to ask: there's a few mentions scattered about (on said page and elsewhere) for a certain character, Kuroko Shirai, being a lesbian based on her interactions with character Mikoto. I'm wondering whether this would fall under Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment since her sexual orientation has never been outright confirmed, only alluded to. I'll leave it at that, but I am willing to explain further if more information is required.
Thanks everyone.
