- Seinfeld Is Unfunny: When they were first coming out, the comics were given much praise for expansive world building, something that the show, especially at the time Season 3 started, was criticized for lacking. As both series went on and the show slowly stared incorporating more world and lore building, many newcomers to the comics find it hard to fully grasp what made the earlier stories so innovative at the time.
It's not an example, because "expansive world-building" is something many, many other works had done before, so it was never "once original"; it's just that world-building was something this franchise didn't usually do.
So is it the case that it it was only original within the franchise as opposed to genre wide, it's not Once Original, Now Common?
Might Hype Backlash be a viable replacement if what made them popular is now franchise-normal causing newer fans to see it as overhyped?
I was the one who removed it, and Vilui explained my reasoning better than I could. Seinfeld isn't unfunny compared to itself; it's unfunny compared to later American sitcoms.
Understood. Questions about these examples which were move/replaced from SIU.
YMMV.My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic S 2 E 26 A Canterlot Wedding Part 2
- Once Original, Now Common: Controversy on the episodes' overall quality aside, this finale was considered a game changer by many at the time of its release as it was not only the first big 2-Part finale, but it also dropped the Slice of Life setup seen in The Best Night Ever in favor of the more traditional heroes vs. villains scenario that was only exclusive to the season premieres. 7 seasons later, this concept continued on for every season finale except for Season 3 that many newcomers find it hard to understand what made it such a big deal back in 2012.
- Hype Backlash: While the game is still loved today, there are plenty of fans who don't see what the hype is about and disagree with the game's reputation as being Kirby's greatest game (even if they find it to be a good game in its own right). It doesn't help that its formula would become the standard for Kirby starting in the mid-2000s, with later games refining and expanding upon its ideas (particularly the games directed by Shinya Kumazaki), [[OnceOriginalNowCommon making it difficult for some to see the game's appeal today]].
Both have the same issue of only being this to the series itself as opposed to genre wide. The Kirby example makes it sound like Hype Backlash can be a replacement if seen as overhyped due to what made it original/popular now being the norm. Thoughts?
Update: also asked Seinfeld Is Unfunny TRS for their thoughts.
Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtLet's keep this cleanup in the TRS thread. Locking so discussion can be taken there.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
Under YMMV.My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic IDW, I've seen Seinfeld Is Unfunny deleted citing "I think for a work to qualify(...), it has to influence more than just the franchise."
SIE is now a disambiguation, its original definition moved to Once Original, Now Common. For that cleanup I want to know if it is the case it has to be genre wide was opposed to just the franchise, as I've seen many franchise-limited examples. I'd say keep franchise-limited examples as it seems overly restrictive, any objections?
"Seinfeld" is Unfunny cleanup has been inactive for a year and a half. Is this an example? ignored it when I asked them. So I'm asking here for thoughts on the matter.
