Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

While that is false use of the tag, I recall that Trivia page links are supposed to be okay in the bodies of examples but due to sharing code with YMMV the icon shows up when it shouldn't.
What Goes Where on the Wiki states they can only be potholed, so I wasn't sure if listing them in the body of an example but without using different pothole wording was ok.
It also says "as long as you don't use this as a ploy to shoehorn Trivia examples where they don't belong", so there's a question about how much the example actually relies on Word of God to qualify - although that might be one for the "Is this an example…?" thread and I was after a more general steer on rules here.
Thanks!
Edited by Mrph1Trivia can be linked to in in the text of a non-Trivia example, and using the invoked tag isn't necessary. I recall it being mentioned during the most recent major site update in 2018 that the then-current members of the mod team (which didn't include me at the time) would have preferred if the flag would have only appeared for bulleted examples and not wicks within the text of non-Trivia examples, since the latter is allowed while the former can only go on Trivia pages (aside from In-Universe examples).
Edited by GastonRabbit Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Trivia items are allowed to be potholed in support of an example. Edit: not so relevant aside: I find it questionable if the trivia is the only thing supporting it and would probably cut the example for the trope not being observable in the work (trivia under the guise of a trope).
Okay: * Money Spider: The wild animals in the forest segment drop gold when slain. Word of God is that this is a deliberate decision to streamline the gameplay.
Not okay: * Money Spider: Word of God says that the wild animals in the forest drop gold when slain.
No issues with using the invoked tag on a good example to hide the blue square. Edit: it's grating that the particular example you shared starts with Word of God.

Looking at Characters.Deadpool Wade Wilson, there have been some recent changes to stop Word of God triggering the usual Trivia warning when used to support an example.
Am I right in thinking it shouldn't really be used that way on Characters / Works / Tropes pages?
(There are also indentation issues, but before I start trying to fix them, I thought I'd get a steer on this first)
From one Ship Tease example:
*** [[invoked]] WordOfGod states that the two seem very lonely, and admits that while the majority were rooting for Rogue and ComicBook/{{Gambit}}, he wanted to try something new and unexpected. Chapter 23's recap classifies Rogue and Deadpool's evening previous chapter as their first date.
That doesn't look like the usual use of 'invoked' as it's not in-universe Word of God by characters discussing a Show Within a Show, for example - but is it also permitted for suppressing the Trivia tag when fleshing out an example that doesn't solely rely on it?
My assumption is no, but...?
Thanks!
