There's Nice Job Breaking It, Rivals!...
The last part ("the energy put into winning the competition outweighs the usefulness of the prize") is probably Bragging Rights Reward...

Can be a Tear-Apart Tug-of-War if they both grab the object and break it in the process of trying to pull it out of the other's grasp.
Two characters are competing over something, and in their zealotry they end up destroying the prize - or the prize is used in the competition and ends up being destroyed.
Can also be done metaphorically - two dudes are competing over a woman's love, and they fight so dirty she grows disgusted with both of them.
A variation is when the energy put into winning the competition outweights the usefulness of the prize: to win the Infinity +1 Sword characters have to level grind so much, they can beat the game with ease without the sword.
