Theatre vs Theater is just a British vs American spelling thing for the most part but since almost all theatre pages are in the Theatre/ namespace, I think it’s best to move the pages there for consistency's sake. The icon was supposed to be for Theatre/ but the Theater spelling was used for it instead and it just hasn’t been fixed since then.

You could also add redirects with the other spelling to the pages.

Is someone going to get around to fixing the masks thing?

Also, I feel like there was something else that made me think "er" was correct... would it be possible to put up some warning when people create an "er" page and automatically correct it/fuse it with "re", or automatically make "er" redirect to "re"?

I made this Idolized Julius Kingsley icon back when Akito first came out, and now that the crossover is actually happening, I don't care.

Either of those actions would need help from the administration. they've already been notified about the icons, but requesting some kind of "namespace redirect" configurable by mods would be good Query Wishlist material.

There are other spacenames with the same issue, such as "Pro Wrestling" & "Professional Wrestling" and "Mythology" & "Mythology and Religion".

A lot of good you did me.

those are page titles, not namespaces. Not the exact same thing.

Speaking as someone who was in a lot of plays growing up (in the US), I'd always been told/assumed that the theater is the building while theatre is the art form, so take that as you will.

In the UK, it's just "theatre" for both.

My understanding of the US usage is that the preference for "theater" spelling is actually newer than people think (from the 1970s, although the journey to the switch began earlier), so there are older people who are still alive who were raised using the "theatre" spelling, and companies that have been around longer than the preference change still use the "theatre" spelling. While there has been an attempt to create a difference between the two spellings (one for the building, one for the artform), that's artificial.

At least, that's what I was once told by a US friend who was researching the history of the American Ballet Theatre School, and decided to find out why it's spelled "theatre" instead of "theater". So, my knowledge is only as good as their research (and I can't verify that).

Heh. My spellchecker is going crazy over my "theater" spelling, so I threw one more in to try and push it over the edge (I need a new hobby, I think).
