The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
Find a Trope:
open"Closer to Home" Feeling
Definitely an Audience Reaction.
2 bad things happen: one in a way/scale that's hard for viewers to imagine (like, say, a Fantastic Nuke that destroys half the world), and one in a way that viewers would be easily familiar with (such as parents being abusive, local thugs, street accidents, etc). The audience the relates more to the latter than the former.
(Can perhaps apply to "2 good things happen", too.)
I doubt if we have this, but I'll ask just in case.
opensteretypical scientist look
Is there a trope for the stereotypical scientist looks? I.E old man mostly bald but tufts of white hair, obviously based on Albert Einstein?
openFan Art of Character Is Different Than Canon Physical Appearance of Character
Is there a trope for when a fandom frequently produces art of a character looking one way, when in the work it's said the character looks another way? Example: A fandom usually draws a character with blond hair, because most people don't remember that one part in the book when the character was said to have brown hair.
openPlaying With Windows of the Soul
In my story, my version of The Greys have large black eyes that look like either inanimate polished obsidian orbs (if their mental shields are raised) or infinite pits of blackness with their protective Eldritch Abomination on the other side (if their mental shields are lowered). Either way, Sleutrienn eyes are neither "windows" nor "doors". Is Windows of the Soul being averted, inverted, subverted, defied, or what?
openObscure information is suddenly known by everyone
Basically, this is the trope where, for most of a story, the characters don't know certain things and information they desperately need is very obscure and known by only a few people. But then, once they learn this almost-lost knowledge, suddenly it seems like everyone they meet has heard of it and it ceases to be rare or obscure in the slightest. I know there's a trope for this, I just can't find it anywhere.
openSibling Separation Plot
When the plot of a story involves siblings who start out together but get separated by choice or fate, and then follows more than one of them as Rotating Protagonists in their various adventures and character arcs.
openAltered mid-transmission
Alice has a message or set of instructions for Bob, but instead of giving them to him herself, she uses Charlie as a middleman. Charlie then alters the message/instructions so that what Bob receives is not what Alice originally sent.
openHero rescued by spirit/ghost of departed ally
This is where the Hero is in trouble, about to be done in by a baddie, when suddenly he receives some kind of unexpected physical aid from a deceased character such as a dead lover, family member or ally. Example: Aerith sending water to help Cloud against one of the Sephiroth clones in Final Fantasy: Advent Children Complete (the scene in the church with the flowers), or Conan's deceased lover Valeria appearing in ghostly form to block an attack ("Do you want to live forever?") before vanishing in the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. The dead character may or may not appear in person; if he/she does, it's generally only for a brief moment, just long enough for the hero to recover and get to their feet. The key requirement is that there is a physical effect of some sort that aids the hero, not just a ghostly appearance. (i.e. Aerith's action mentioned above counts, but Zack's pep talk that occurs in Cloud's mind later in the movie does not, as this has no physical effect on the outcome - Zack offers just such help, but Cloud declines.)
openSeen in the same room with your alter-ego Print Comic
I'm pretty sure this is a common way to protect a secret identity (by faking a simultaneous appearance of a character and that secret identity), but I'm not sure that there's a trope for it.
openIs there a trope, for accidentally getting invited? Web Original
I'm sure this trope has been done, a few times before, but I wanted to know if it's one of the tropes.
Basically, someone sends an invitation for an event/mission/vacation, to a particular person for various different reasons. However through a series of hijinks, the invitation ends up in the hands of not the intended guy, but rather a completely different person. Never the less, the person accepts the invitation and goes anyway.
For the record, I'm not really referring to the Mistaken for Special Guest trope, but more of the invitation being sent to the wrong person. Any help, would be appreciated.
openHard to explain succinctly
Which trope would this fit in?
- Honkai Impact3rd: When he reads the "digital diary" of Seele, the "Captain" imagined her based on her appearance's description. He imagines her standing in front of him. The strange part, however, is when Seele then converse with him as if she's the real deal. It's implied that Seele, as a bodiless soul, actually entered his mind to talk with him.
openUnusually Particular Afterlife
Is there a trope for cultures that believe in selective afterlives? Not just selective by species either. For example, only kings have afterlives or only one specific culture has an afterlife.
openImmortality where you're forced to stay alive until the universe ends
Is there a trope for when an immortal being can only die when the planet or sun dies?
openEvil beings made of crystal or diamond
Do we have anything for evil beings made of diamond or crystal ?
openConquering Heaven
Do we have something for badguys who plan to break into and brutally conquer paradise/heaven ?
Ive seen it a decent number of times in media. Like an inverted Hell Has New Management
Edited by miraculousopenGeneric realistic anti-hero guy Videogame
A main character with these possible traits
-Gruff personality -Born in America -Might have children -Has a beard of sorts And more
I believe that this trope used Joel from The Last of Us as the trope image
