Hi! Thinking of joining, trying to decide between a few different characters.

Mainly considering Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost, an ice-powered superhuman from DC Comics. I'd be blending her Arrowverse and comic incarnations together- she'd have the heat vampire sickness from the comics and would lack the split personality gimmick she has in Arrowverse, but would mostly look like Arrowverse!Killer Frost. Here she is!

The other character I'm considering (and if so, I'll bring her in later) is my namesake, Spottedleaf from Warrior Cats. She's an ordinary, feral cat who happens to have human intelligence (as do all the characters in Warriors), so I might put some sort of Translator Microbes in place to explain why all these "twolegs" can understand her and vice versa. She's particularly skilled with healing herbs and can sometimes receive omens from her ancestors. There's no official set design for her as these books don't have a film adaptation, but here are a few interpretations.

Ah, okay. Crow's human, an inventor/mad genius with a heavily modifiable mechanical hand and armour designed to "reduce concussive force". and he's sorta a "classic" villain and loves it, kidnaps princesses, tries to take over the world, gets really sidetracked with word play or analogies about how evil he is, etc. Overall beyond that he's a rather decent, almost normal guy to hang out with, being all around sorta average but evil and a bit insane. And evil as in like kick the dog or Dick Dastdardly Stop to Cheat kind of evil at worst, when not actively trying to take over the world

Also, oops. Cut off another person by accident.

@Spottedleaf

Hey, and welcome to the game smile

I'd give you the usual spiel asking you to read the rules, but there's a strong chance you already did, so I'll skip to the important bits.

Spottedleaf the character seems completely cool with me. And the only clarification I will ask for Killer Frost if you intend to play her is what you mean by "lack the split personality gimmick". I'm really only familiar with the comics version, so it'd help a lot.

@belak

The character seems internally consistent there. But I would like to ask something before I render any judgement. There's nothing outright barring newcomers from playing someone of an evil persuasion, since this is kind of a grab bag roleplaying game, but I do feel obligated to mention that many find difficulties in playing a villain because most people shockingly want to play good people. So in-game treatment of guys who are openly evil can be rough when other players have their characters react naturally, depending on how hostile these guys act and the scope of their villainy.

You're still free to ask us to okay them, just as long as you understand all that. Otherwise, good or neutral guys tend to be easier on newcomers.

[up][up] Thanks for asking! The Arrowverse version portrays Caitlin Snow (her civilian identity in the new 52) and Killer Frost as two separate personalities in one body- something like a Superpowered Evil Side, but replace "evil" with "anti-hero". As such, her personality will be more in line with the Arrowverse "Caitlin Snow", but with some of Frost's edge.

@belak Take all the time you need. We're always open, and we're always happy to give advice or answer questions when you need it smile

@Spottedleaf I'd only ever seen the first few episodes of Green Arrow, so that does help quite a lot. I don't see any problems with her then. You're free to choose whoever you'd like to play. smile

If you have any further questions, I'll be happy to answer them now. Otherwise, I'll give a short overview of the current setting just to help you get started.

I think just a recap will suffice! I'm already playing Caitlin in at least one other RP, so I'll start with Spotty this time.

Alrighty. smile

The current setting the game is taking place in is the land of Nethervegas. The shrothand explanation is that it's FalloutNewVegas mixed with Disgaea. The long-hand and actually useful explanation is that essentially, it's a world trying to pick up the pieces of the aftermath of nuclear fallout that's slowly been going to pot since the nukes bombs, have somehow induced a boom in technology and mutation that essentially means more than half the population that isn't already dead have begun resembling demons that literally treat the world like a game, reckless need to induce explosions and all. But hey, it's not all bad. At least the city of Nethervegas in the state of Nevada is there if you want to have some protection and a fun escape, even if it's still literally got criminality, gambling and decadence as the de facto model of business. The inhabitants are a bit touched in the head, but they're not all bad people.

There is an overarching plot, but it's not mandatory to join. The plot itself is about a bunch of our characters taking on what are essentially modified versions of the Trials of Heracles after pissing off the local incarnation of the Roman god Jupiter. They're currently in their third one, chasing after a Hind helicopter while in a death race involving some of the locals who watched too many MadMax films. Or a demented game of MarioKart. Whatever floats your boat.

I think that's about the most important need-to-know things to help you get a general sense of what kind of place Spottedleaf would find herself in. You require anything more specific to help you out?

I'm not sure how much my word counts, but I just wasted most of my afternoon to watch a Nefarious gameplay from start to end. Crow could make a fun addition to the band, being a more or less Lawful Evil.

Well, a vote of confidence mixed with a few days not coming up with anything else are what I needed. So yeah, guess I'll be going with Crow. Gonna hope things remain relatively slow because life is full of a billion other things but none the less.

Well, the main plotline is described by Rai a few posts above. As for the side story I'm in, Sparty's secondary and my character are playing Moses by leading through the Mojave a few dozen ex-slaves, freshly freed by the Sparty's character. We just arrived in the city of Goodsprings to weather the night and figure out what to do with the emancipated masses.

If the main plot is too... loud for you and not in the mood for Mario Kart, you can join mine too. As for appearing, you could come in the town, barging in the Saloon all Spaghetti-Western style. We even have some unemployed NPC's if Crow is looking for hire. Hell, he can literally just fall out of the sky without any prior exposition and none of us would bat an eye.

hello i would like to start with the character Eirjkr Fjandistinger an elven viking warrior (barbarian specifically) who fell through a portal. he believes freedom is the most important thing in life, never runs away from a fight to the point of stupidity and has absalutely no idea what "romantic love (eros)" or "sex" is and is asexual he is quite strong and coordinated and fights with 2 swords

@Szenka that does sorta answer most of my questions. My semi largest question though was actually about wether or not having a small handful of Crow’s minions (3 or 4) would be alright or not. It’d be a bit difficult on my end RP wise but I’ve also had worse. Plus I can have them essentially be voiceless robots if need be. I mostly ask because wether or not that’d be okay for me personally would kinda handle how I went about other stuff.

[up][up] Welcome to We Are Our Avatars! I presume your current avatar is a depiction of Eirjkr?

[up] So long as you can handle them I don't suppose it would be a big problem. As long as you understand what Rai has told you about the fact Crow may not have the easiest time around these parts. smile

[up] I do. I honestly think it may be fun playing an out of place villain though. Well, either way he’s hoping I don’t make too much of a buffoon or a jerk out of myself. Or accidnetly do something I shouldn’t.

So if I want to join, do I just write a post in here? Is there anything that I should do to like prepare (mentally or physically)? Firstly, I have read the rules, and understand it all fairly well, but I am wondering how soon exactly is “too soon to reply to a post” ‘cause I have a habit of treating forums more like long term chat rooms, which they are not. As for my character, for right now I’m either gonna go as Waldo himself, or just some nutcase with a Waldo Mask who thinks he’s Waldo. I’d prefer the latter. I hope this gives you enough info to work with.

Thanks!

1) I admit, I don't know what “too soon to reply to a post” really entails, considering a forum rpg post can go for some period of time without activity or a large flurry of posts all at once

2) Did Waldo even have much of a personality to help give us an idea of what the character would be like in this game? I know his gimmick is in being a quite literal background character, but that's about all I know.

I think that actually answered my question, believe it or not, but as for the waldo thing, I actually did that on purpose. Waldo is, as you said, literally a background character. From what I’ve gathered when you first enter, it’s better to pick a simple character than something else. That being said, as long as it doesn’t violate anything, I like the idea of the insane guy. It adds a bit more personality even though it is admittedly temporary.

As long as he's not the "homicidal" kind, I suppose the game's been chill enough to let you give it a try, although he's likely going to be a flat kind of character if "crazy" is the sum of his personality. You have any other questions?

My avatar is an original character. It is a depiction of Cheri (Full Name: Cheerful Rabbit Interface in Holistic Operational Programming v5.0.0.1), who is a personal AI software program - one of any number that can be downloaded onto a standard pAI card in the setting they come from. The card can transform into a mobile chassis which is black with green details, Cheri uses the form of a rabbit. Personal AI programs assist their owner with their daily affairs in general. Cheri is relentlessly cheerful, friendly and often cute. The later versions have become capable of counselling to help users on deep space vessel, which was a natural development as people were using it for that anyway.

The pAI hardware is surprisingly robust and those batteries last nearly forever, so when accidents happen on ships and stations, a card loaded with a pAI might survive, drifting in space for unknown ages, and getting drawn into all manner of weird space stuff. One version of that software landed on a fantasy world, and ended up ascending as a goddess (Cheri has no gender, but enough people assumed..) of Cheerfulness and Confectionary.

This is -not- that version of Cheri, but another one thrown through the multiverse. However, divinity works in weird ways when you're functionally the same as a deity, and it seems that any versions of Cheri not in their home universe, or in places where that sort of thing just doesn't work, carry a divine spark with them - it's comparable to a human being a 'chosen' of their deity.

Thus this Cheri has been enhanced in some ways - while Cheri is still a software program in a mechanical chassis, that chassis has fur and is warm to the touch now, and is slightly bigger than it should be, similar to an actual rabbit and it's eyes are emerald instead of electric green. It is also able to use divine powers related to Cheerfulness and Confectionary, including some empathic abilities, conjuration of sweets, and riding a flying donut. Cheri general wanders the multiverse now that it has no master, trying to spread cheer wherever it can, and figure out what is the cause of what's happened to it.

The divine abilities work better in areas where there is joy, or where people wish for it. Certain situations, such as where a lot of people are feeling hopeless, or places where divine abilities can't work, may reduce it to being little no more than a personal AI again.

It just is what it is

Sorry for the very late reply. Got bogged down by a case of real life.

I do have to say this is definitely not the kind of character I expected, the AI avatar to essentially a candyland god. But if they can handle being in a world as burnt out as the current setting, I think you should be fine. Need any other information?
