Universal Pictures is closing a deal to acquire the licensing rights to The Legend of Zelda with it being Illumination's next big film.

Looking forward to it but I still think a series/miniseries would be a better use of the IP.

Unfortunately, the Apple TV+ adaptation of Frog and Toad, which debuted back on April 28, has been unexpected pulled from the service. Legally, there doesn't seem to be an alternative to view, download, or purchase the series.

According to someone who worked on the series, it was a technical issue.

I created the work page for Mars Express, a French sci-fi film.

(I know I still have to do the crosswicking).

This film came out this week in France, and I have no idea when it will be available in other countries. It is quite a small production, I think it was crowdfunded. It looks quite similar to the Lastman series, and was directed by the same person.

I really liked it, especially the worldbuilding is pretty good.

So, John Krasinski (The Office, A Quiet Place, Jack Ryan) has written and directed a film called IF, starring Ryan Reynolds. The plot:

A young girl named Bea gains the ability to see people's imaginary friends, referred to as "I Fs" for short, who have been abandoned by the kids they helped. Bea then discovers that her neighbor, The Man Upstairs, has the same ability.

Now, this sounds, with a few differences, remarkably like Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends—so much so that I'm surprised it got past the lawyers. Coincidentally, in that odd synergy that sometimes seem to happen in Hollywood, there's also a horror movie coming out called Imaginary, about an abandoned imaginary friends coming back to haunt the family of the person who abandoned it.

Other than the plot revolving around imaginary friends— a concept that Foster's Home did not invent— I don't see too much similarity.

It doesn't just involve imaginary friends. It involves imaginary friends who've been abandoned by their people after their people have grown up, and the people trying to help them—which is the central premise behind Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. The central imaginary friend in the film looks like a combination of Sully from Monster's Inc and Bloo from Fosters.

It's not a 1 to 1 copy, obviously. The concept of the imaginary childhood friend suggests this particular scenario, so I wouldn't be surprised if Krasinski developed his concept independently, and had never seen Foster's. I'm surprised that someone along the line of production, though, didn't point out that "hey, this sounds a lot like this cartoon that ran on CN about 20 years ago..."

I'm guessing it passes, though, because if WB was going to do anything about it, they'd have done it by now.

Not quite sure what a Christian network wants with a show about ancient Egypt. I mean, they're not going to do a 10 Plagues episode, are they?
