The art has definitely gotten far better than it ever was compare http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/20021023 and http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/ The joke of the latter was kinda funny, and Tim is supporting a sick child so I'm assuming hes less of an ass hat, so does this mean CAD is decent or dear I say good?

The latest comic attempted to shoehorn a prison rape joke in the middle of an ostensibly dramatic story arc.

No, it hasn't gotten better.

I disagree. Going from a low point a while ago where the poses seemed to be copy-pasted to now, I'd say the art has become less lazy. And the writing, while not stellar, has gone from consistently lame to mostly OK. "Decent" is probably the right word. Not "excellent" or "completely horrible". Saying that, though, it is still juvenile and derivative.

Now I know little of the ass-hattery of the author in the past or now, so I have no idea if that had improved or not.

This would have been a better strip if he removed all the text other than Embla is Dying in the 4th panel

CAD has settled into the realm of So Okay, It's Average by my standards. Not quite as bad as the haters say, but not anywhere near good enough to defend.

So Okay, It's Average works for me too.

Friday's punchline was lame. Meh.

Well, I stopped reading fairly recently, but unless something major happened since then the strip is probably no longer charming. Ethan is a bad idea for a main character, but not completely unsalvageable, and every once in a while the strip either went the Elan route and showed how his craziness could be an advantage, or went the Homer route and showed how his strong sense of loyalty could make up for his stupidity. In more recent strips the author seemed to feel that was established, and just showed him being an idiot all the time.

Edit: And I just clicked that link. Wow, this might actually be going somewhere decent.

I'm pleased there's more pose variety now, but it's still not my kind of comic.

I find myself more invested in the characters' stories these days than the "Haha video games are funny" bits, but I admit I'm in the minority. Just seems like a better comic when it's trying to be about the characters' lives than when it's trying to be Penny Arcade.

Admittedly, I don't like Penny Arcade.

The writing? I don't want to brave it to see whether or not it's any better, but from what I've heard no. I have to admit the art has way improved though. Have we finally been rid of the days of the dreaded B^U-ness? Holy shit, I think Hell just froze over!

All of those are excellent for criticism. Why should we limit ourselves to discussing good/popular/readable webcomics?

Because their flaws are so glaringly obvious and their fanbases so rabid that it starts to turn into a messy, snowballing dogpile?

It's all fun and games until somebody starts making death threats... and I wish I was being hyperbolic here.

This is the problem I have with Hatedom. Despite its claims, it doesn't actually judge the work on its quality- it makes a decision to hate the work, and then finds justifications. CAD had a series of complaints about it that made it a Hatedom target. But even if the art became fantastic, the jokes hilarious, and Buckley became a saint, they'd still find a reason to hate it, because they're looking for one.

And then they claim "No, we don't hate it, we just want the work to improve!" and pretend to give constructive criticism, and if it evolves on its own instead of doing exactly what the critics demand, it still sucks. And if the creator does what they want, they take credit.
