Black is just rain that's heavily contaminated with soot. You always see it associated with nuclear fallout because nukes tend to leave a lot of soot in the atmosphere (along with a bunch of much more obvious nasty stuff).

I knew it's the ash that makes it black; I brought nukes up because of the association.

You know, watching GBF, it's really rude of them to show figures that plain don't have a 1/144.

I saw a Den'an Zon in there and it gave me a Hope Spot that there was an HGUC version out there, but nope, just the old 1/100 one.

They put in figures that literally do not exist in real life, most of the Turn A mobile suits that appeared never got a gunpla in any form.

On the topic of GBF, the YMMV page seems... way too complimentary.

This is speaking as someone who has not seen Try, but in terms of Audience Reactions, from what I've seen it's considered genuinely not very great. At the very least it's between "mediocre" and "outright bad." But the entry for Contested Sequel says it's between "as good as GBF and not quote" and Tough Act to Follow basically screams "it's quite good, but people are unfair to it because GBF was good."

Again, I have no opinion about Try other than I love the mecha designs. But the YMMV page just doesn't seem to jive with what I've actually heard.

Try wasn't a steaming shitpile, but it was So Okay, It's Average at best. It had its moments (Tryon 3 was great, for instance) but overall it failed to do anything interesting with its characters, story, or action.

Well... yeah. If I would've written it, I would've done it differently.

No haremshit, for one. Assimilation being a recurring plot point instead of a one-off thing to justify a shonen Post-Victory Collapse.

The last one.

Also meh did not like this one, it was basically most of the problems that Tri had applied to Sei and Yuuki.

Yeah, I am not a fan of the A-Z Gundam.

And all we got out of Sei's new Gundam is a unclearly explained Booster Pack and a glorified Beam Shield.

... That's it?

The A-Z just looks like a Zeta gundam with a different paintjob and shoulder cannons.

I quite liked this one. It was short and not quite as polished as a proper episode, but it still had some interesting choreography, which was always my favorite thing about GBF.

Okay, I've been doing some thinking, and... do you think we should have a character page for each series for its major suits? I know that would be a pretty big undertaking (and for some series, like build fighters, it would be nigh impossible) but I think it would be pretty helpful since at the moment the only info on each suit is only given in the character section of the pilot.

I don't really think that would be helpful, no. It's difficult to separate mecha from their pilots, and we'd likely just end up with a lot of duplicate entries and little new information.

Granted, a few of them have some unique traits. RX-78-2 can combat roll and move similar to a human, God gundam really DOES move like a human since it basically uses a video game motion capture system, F91 has that after-image thing and so on. Its kind of a big and wonky undertaking but not holly unfeasible.

Speaking of F91 I built the High Grade F91. Its a lovely guy but man he;s small. I honestly think he's smaller thant he Nobel Gundam, even! I managed to pose himw ith his beam rifle, bazooka and beam shield out and it worked out well. The box is hilarious tho, it calls the suit F91 Gundam F91

I believe in universe the F91 ones are smaller because armour became less important than speed.

Yeah, all of the firepower in half of the packaging was the entire point of the Formula Project. Means you’re harder to hit, and easier to protect with a beam shield (because less of you is sticking out from behind it).

The box is hilarious tho, it calls the suit F91 Gundam F91

Because that's the suit's name and designation. The first F91 is the alphanumeric designation like RX-78, the rest is the name. It just happens that the name contains the alphanumeric designation too.

The main advance that allowed for miniaturizing mobile suits in the F91 era was reactor technology. When they could start generating the same amount of power in smaller packages, then they shrank the rest of the mobile suit to match.

[up][up] Yeah but its still kinda goofy looking. I guess that's why most video games never use that full title.
