Jack found himself admiring Doctor Langley's ability to sleep on command. While he had mastered the art himself, it had not been a pleasant process and it still required effort. She had the talent without having to work for it, or else her fatigue had finally caught up with her. Either way, he was certainly willing to allow her the fifteen minutes she had requested. If someone else could have piloted the spinner, he would have let her sleep until they had arrived, but they did not. Now his attention was on the Doctor, whose expertise on alien creatures they would no doubt need.
"Doctor," he said quietly, "agonizing over your past, whatever it might have been, is precisely what the forces arrayed against us wish. It will make us indecisive and ineffective. Your vision, like that of the others, is not real. It has been born from the darkness within you. If you believe that darkness is no more, or is at least under control...then whatever you see does not exist. That is what you must do."
