A Game of Gods: A Multiversal Challenge

"Whee!" Natsu shouted as Bowser flung him through the portal. Gajeel followed with curses and Wendy with a giggle.

Vezon was, naturally, in the portal faster than the eye could follow.

When the Red Mage blew up;
Mason had stared at the explosion in shock.
"How did he do that? He would've had to walk behind the trap without knowing it, then walk into it. That's hard to do by accident."
When the Combine had flooded in:
"Oh fuck me."
He whipped out the Death Machine, and cut through swathes of Combine. After expending thousands if rounds from various guns, he had been knocked out by a Hunter.
That's when the Advisors came.
Their attack jolted Mason back to his feet, but he was Mason no more. Reznov had taken over, and had pushed him to his limit.
Mason, once again in control, is currently crawling towards the portals.

"Oh, hell, Mason's still back there!" Samara gasped, putting down Dex-Starr and going through the portal to help him.

Bowser had already picked up Manson and thrown him at the portal.

Mason got up, using his M87 as a walking stick, hurled Samara through the portal (It's an eight year old) and walked to the portal. He then waited for Bowser to get in.

Samara was promptly ejected into the Common Room by Mason. As Mason and Bowesr got in and the portal closed, she sighed in relief. "So how'd it go?" she asked.

When everyone passed through the portal, something... strange happened. They were in a void of whiteness. At the other end was the blackness of space, The Combine overworld clearly visible.

It was collapsing in on itself, portions of it being sucked in and whirling around a shrinking void. The planet was shredding itself apart from the inside out, becoming nothing. Finally, everything was sucked into the tiniest pinprick of matter...

Which then exploded outwards, breaking the debrie that had been the Combine overworld down to its most basic particles. The Combine had been completely and utterly obliterated.

And then the champions were back in the common room.

What happened in Gordon's home universe was... confusing. For the nomad who had ran Gordon's personal challenge had done much to change the outcome.

Normally, no one would've remembered what had happened. But they'd seen it. The whole thing had been displayed on the massive screens that Breen had installed around the various cities. And when the Combine overworld died...

They remembered. Even though time itself had changed, humanity had never been enslaved, every human remembered what had happened.

Alyx remembered, quite clearly, the crawl Gordon had made through the convection hallway.

She wanted to see him again, even if she had no idea how he had been there.

Xi smiled.

After Mason returned to the common room, Dex-Starr promptly melted the M87 and then tackled him in case he did not fall immediately. He then padded up to Samara and snuggled up to her, purring affectionately.

The Doctor smiles and walks to Gordon. "GREAT JOB MAN!"

He lifts up his arm. "HIGH-FIVE!"

Narumi returned to the common room. "Well... That was weird..." Narumi said.

Vezon lay flat on his back for a few minutes. "PHEW!"

Hope watched everyone else come back.

Well, almost everyone.

"So, how'd it go?"

"We did it, although holding up the enemy reminded me of the Korean War."

Samara picked up Dex-Starr and lightly rubbed his head.

Rey came running out of his room, looking around the Common Room, eyes wide. "Did we win??"

"No, we utterly lost. What do you think?" Narumi asked Rey.

Rey grinned widely. "Sometimes when something so great happens, you just can't believe it, Narumi."

"Heck I'm just glad to see you guys alive."

Michael shook hands with Spriggan before he did so with Rey.

"Thanks Mike. This isn't like what G4 training will do to you."

Jack offered a hand to Gordon, grateful that the return trip had restored him to health and cleanliness.

"Your success in that battle far outstripped our own, and I am honored to have fought at your side."

Rey smiled faintly as he watched the others, not saying anything for a bit. He just enjoyed the fact that for the moment, they seemed happy. Finally, he chuckled a bit, turning to glance around, then made his way over to a spot in the room that had once before had the enormous refrigerator, calling it back up.

"You know, who knows how long we have before we get another portal. I say we take whatever time we have here to take it easy and get our bearings." He opened the fridge door and chuckled, taking out a six-pack of chilled beer. "Come on, let's just sit and relax for once. I think we could all use a break."

"Thanks," Gordon said. He took a deep breath, conjured a couch, and sat down on it. "Well... home's free now... hehe..."

He looked the happiest he'd been in a while.

Vezon wandered past Gordon. "I wonder what Mr Creepy Mc Blue Suit would have to say about this development?" He pondered out loud.

"I wonder indeed?"

Spriggan said. "But like Rey said, we can take a break for a while."

'So things are conjured by thought here?' Kimimaro thought. He focused, and an easy chair faded into existence behind him; he allowed himself to flop backwards onto it. After relaxing for several seconds, he thought of something.

Sitting forward and thinking, he imagined a computer that would show him detailed data on previous Challenges and on past & present Challengers. Lo & behold, it worked, and he began to read. To speed things along, he imagined a temporal distortion to surround him (and his chair) so that the undoubtedly long time spent reading would amount to about 20 seconds outside. He unconsciously shivered upon reading up on the Magical Girl and Silver Heroes Challenges, thanking the Sage he hadn't been around for either one. He was also thoroughly horrified upon reading about the Reach Challenge; a group of fanatic extremist aliens on a religious crusade to wipe out humanity down to every last man, woman, and child?

Something else caught his interest: a particular challenger who had appeared during the Magical Girl Challenge. Technique, mannerisms, verbal tic... it had most definitely been Deidara of the Akatsuki. But then he'd vanished; perhaps that was when Kabuto pulled his mass Edo Tensei to bring back deceased Akatsuki members, and it somehow yanked Deidara from the challenges?

He disengaged the temporal field as he finished reading, digesting the information. He looked around, noticing a few lacking.

"Where are Jorge-san, Ravage-san, Dis-san, and Subaru-san?" he wondered aloud.
