Well, it was set in the nineties, which was the last decade where you could realistically keep the internet at arms length in your stories. I grew up in the nineties (come to think of it, Im pretty much of Harry's age group), and the internet was not a big deal at all to me. I only got my own computer when I turned 12, and internet a few years later. Yes, you COULD have a computer without internet back then. And not many 11 year olds would even have a computer back in 1992.

It's easy to forget just how fast things changed between the early and late nineties.

[up][up][up] I disagree. The original 7 books are great. Very clearly well-thought-out and so on. But I do agree that JK's magic has slowly started to vanish, as she's released more and more supplementary material that's not gone over well. Cursed Child is the most egregious one (it's just so... fanfic-y!), but as for Fantastic Beasts, it's just something we didn't need, doesn't contribute anything to the HP series (outside of shoehorned Nagini), and is kind of... there.

I thought Cursed Child just got her stamp of approval, but wasn't actually written by her. Hence why the characters feel a bit OOC, especially Ron.

[up][up][up] Absolutely true. Deathly Hallows was set in 97-98. It's that first generation of muggleborns after the Battle of Hogwarts that I expect would find themselves missing the Internet. So when they graduate in 2005-ish, that's when I expect the wizarding world to start changing to accommodate. Before that, they'd just be giving up TV and landline phones. (And ballpoint pens. Can't understand why everyone just happily uses quills and inkpots, of all things.)

Actually, in elemetary school we always had to write with ink pens for some reason. Moving from that to quill and ink would not be that big of a leap. Also, these are magical quills that don't leak or even auto-refill, so they basically become fancy ink pens anyway.

And some of them have creative ways of producing their own ink, such as Umbridge's quill.

The books say she got stuck in Azkaban after the events of the books. I would love for her comeuppance to also include her having to write "I must not shill for Dark Wizards taking over the Ministry of Magic" every night for the rest of her life.

How hard do you think it would be to teach muggleborns of the last decade how to search through the library for the info they need?

Not all the quills are magic. In Chamber of Secrets Ron spills ink on his homework and tries to use his broken wand to clean it, and sets the parchment on fire.

[up] I think they could get the hang of it, but I also think they'd find it unbearably tedious and the clever ones would get to work on a magical search engine of some sort as soon as possible.

Parchment is quite expensive. Doesn't it require lambskin to make? I'm surprised they let children to use it.

Finally, and I thought I was the only one who is not interested in "Fantastic Beasts".

I believe that J.K. should focus on writing something original. Something that it's not related to "Harry Potter". After all, she had proved to us that she knows how to entertain the readers.

Also, I haven't read "Cursed child" yet.

Er.... she has. She wrote the 2012 novel The Casual Vacancy and from 2013 onwards she's been writing the Cormoran Strike detective novels under the pen-name Robert Galbraith - the most recent of which (Lethal White) came out 3 months ago.

I will said that is in fact the contrary: she need ro got back to potter and write good novel to adapt because so far the adaptation have done a pretty bad job so far.

Nah, she needs to shut up and leave the franchise alone because everything she says and does just makes things worse. First she approved Cursed Child as the canon eighth story in the franchise, then there's all the racism and logic problems in the stuff she put out on Pottermore in the buildup to the first Fantastic Beast movie, then she supported Depp despite him being a known abuser, then there's Nagini, and then there was the second Fantastic Beast movie which included the implication that the main villain could have stopped the Holocaust which is offensive and it had Mcgonagall show up as an adult over a decade before she should have been born.

Rowling is a bad writer who is no good for the franchise and needs to shut the fuck up and stop trying to keep Harry Potter relevant.

[up] As much as I love some aspects of Fantastic Beasts (Newt practically feels like he was made to validate autistic people like me)...Crimes of Grindelwald was...eh. The effects were good, and I like the new creatures well enough for me to not completely hate the movie (the Zouwu is basically a giant version of my cat), but it is definitely weaker than the first movie and has some deeply problematic aspects.

I literally cannot fathom how Cursed Child could be considered canon, given it directly contradicts how time travel works in this series. Also, let's be real: there's no way Bellatrix would have kept the fact that she had Voldemort's kid a secret. Heck, the kid probably would have been named "Actual Proof That Bellatrix Lestrange did the do with you know who".

[up]Bellatrix is a fanatic who would do everything voldermot wanted so she could mantain secret, specially when the other option is a crucio and Adavabra kadabra to the face.

[up][up]That is a little rude and in fact suport my point: it seen Rowling wants to write about harry potter but dosent want to so she trust suplemental material which....it dosent work, at all.

This is gonna sound a bit weird, but...I honestly think Fantastic Beasts would benefit from NOT trying to tie itself too deeply to the main story. The fact that the first film was basically a brand new adventure that happened to be set in the same universe was why I loved it so much.

[up]x3

I really don't care if it's rude. Every attempt she's made since the series has ended to keep it relevant has been either badly written, offensive, or both so I'd rather she stop ruining one of my favorite franchises. If her additions were good I'd be fine but they're not.

See, I liked the first Fantastic Beasts. Flawed? Yes, but overall entertaining and it seemed like it could turn out to be a good prequel. It made me feel like Cursed Child was just a one-off. Going into CoG, everything looked fine. A cameo by Nicolas Flamel, a slight shift of focus toward Youngledore, and it all looked like a decent followup.

But then another trailer came out and revealed Nagini. And then the movie game out and everyone's going nuts about McGoogles showing up as a fully-grown adult ten years before Preacher McGongol was supposed to be born and one of the love interests going evil for some hilariously contrived reason...

[up][up] I mean that's pretty funny but it's also kind of dated. I wish trying to retcon minorities into the series was the worst thing JKR was doing to the franchise now.
