Most damningly, it just wasn't particularly funny.
Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffAll becomes rather moot, as Scott seems to have fallen back into old habits and is no longer making new comics.
And at the end of the day, I think we can all agree on that, Bobby.
I actually laughed, before I thought it through and realized it wasn't funny.
Shoot me.
If you insist.

VG Cats was funny for awhile, the it started to bore me.
Lets take the infamous "Nerds Rage" comic, for me it was just another jab at the "Hardcore VS Casual" debate that brought only a 1 second chuckle on the last panel. It wasn't funny at all.
Then there is that Pokemon one taking a Jab at the 1st Gen Purists and the new 4th Gen games, granted it hits the nail on the head for 1st gen purists. But it to from the moment I saw the first panel, was predictible and not very funny.
Yeah it had it's moments, but now it's just gotten predictable for me. The latest one that made me laugh was the Deus Ex Arceus one.
I'm having to learn to pay the priceOk. This last one is pretty funny.
'Nerd Rage' is pretty horrible. I think mainly because as a younger gamer, I was born into the 'casual games' era that he seems to despise so much and it kind of reads as a personal attack even though I know it isn't.
Not to mention the fact that he's wrong. Video game companies never went out of their way to appeal to the 'hardcore gamers'. Their first priority is and always has been is to draw in the mainstream to make more money. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
Have the quality of games gone down since then? No. There are still plenty of good games around. Really, the whole comic reads more like someone having a tantrum when they realise that being a gamer wasn't as special as they thought it was.
Honestly, gaming seems to cycle between periods of mainstream popularity, and periods of insulation. Right now, it's in the former. I mean hell, does nobody remember the days when gaming was so mainstream that even the gas stations could be counted to have an arcade machine in the corner?
It was funnier when he was making period jokes, not trying to be insightful.
Also, did I miss something, and God of War, Shenmue and Dynamite Cop were erased from existence, thus meaning people felt that they didn't need to heavily qualify saying all QT Es are bad?
The VG books strip was pretty funny.
Also, Background Gags. Newfags can't triforce.
I'll just say that I love the Nerd Rage over the "takeover" of casual gaming; I want video games to be as mainstream as novels and music, and stuff like the Nintendo Wii and PopCap Games help towards that goal. $600 consoles with 18-button controllers and libraries dominated by first-person shooters are gaming's Dark Age, and I hope we never go that way again (not that I don't enjoy "hardcore" gaming, but there's a lot more than that). When the fanboys rage over the Wii's success, I break out the popcorn and mock them.
VG Cats, though, is a webcomic that has overstayed its welcome. The art is getting cleaner, but the strips tend to be ridiculously long, and oftentimes it seems to sacrifice the jokes just to appease the furry fanbase. The earlier strips have a charm that the newest stuff lacks.

... "appease the furry fanbase"?
VG Cats+Furries= WTFBBQLUSERERRORDOESNOTCOMPUTE
Incidentally, am I the only one who thought that the back to the future strip was the funniest ever?
Does VG Cats have a furry fanbase?
Erik, confused
Almost certainly, but I highly doubt that Scott Ramsoowhatshisname had any intention of it.
Anyone remember the Star Fox Yaoi comic? Yeah. Furries.
I also saw VG Cats porn where what's-his-face was giving Aeris head...am I sick for thinking that was all kinds of hot?

online since 1993 | huge retrocomputing and TV nerd | lee4hmz.info (under construction) | heapershangout.com@Electi: I think that was more a parody, but yeah.
I suppose it's the difference between annoying, but bearable, and finally crossing the Moral Event Horizon of soapboxing.
