Devil May Cry

Square Enix is practically a fountain of manservice characters. FFXV alone is pure fujobait, and then there's the CW-drama-disguised-as-chuuni-crossover that is Kingdom Hearts.

Of which KH 2 FM is the closest an Action RPG has become a Stylish Action game.

Hopefully, KH 3 will be the same.

FFXV also had the issue of giving the female Love Interest barely any screentime or characterization and zero chemistry or shared screentime with the protagonist. To the point that even a DLC crossover character ends up having more chemistry with Noct.

And the character they chose for the crossover is voiced by The person who did Alloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, and is fucking adorable.

I have not played FFXV so I'm sorta lost on this one. I find "They did not develop the female lead" to be very believable though.

It's true that Final Fantasy definitely targets fans of the male form, though. One of the reasons it remains so popular after all these years. The King of Fighters is also a series that has cranked out characters as fangirl bait, although since it rarely deviates from a certain bishie mold I feel like that one's to the series' detriment.

Would anyone be interested in another shot at a Devil may Cry animated series? If so, how would you go about it?

Despite all the issues it had, the base idea of the DMC Anime, being more about Dante's day jobs, was actually solid. The main problem was the execution alot of the time. If you were to make a direct sequel/Season 2, i'd honestly go as so far to say to downplay Dante, set it between 4 and 2/5 and have Nero and Nico be the main characters, with maybe an episode or two focusing on Dante.

I don't care what they'd do just give us a on screen Devil Trigger this time.

For me, I'd make it a Netflix production like the current Castlevania series with each season lasting 8 to 10 episodes. Greg Weisman would be in charge of writing, with directing duties given to Genndy Tartakovsky.

Season 1 would be an origin story of sorts with Dante in the aftermath of his mother's death and his brother's disappearance. How he gets his guns and his coat will be seen among other things.

Season 2 will be an adaptation of DMC 3.

Season 3 loosely adapts DMC 1 with some filler episodes about Dante's jobs. It develops Trish more and why she turned on Mundus.

Season 4 adapts DMC 4 which could serve as lead in to a spin off/sequel starring Nero.

Season 5 adapts DMC 2 with Trish and Lucia as co-stars.

Monkey's Paw outcome. Dante uses his Devil Trigger, but for some insane reason, the fight scene is set to Subhuman.

And animated by Hoods or A1.

I'm not familiar with Hoods but I'd argue for either MADHOUSE or Bones.

The Animated Series actually was animated by Madhouse.

Ironic considering their wasn't much action in the show so I guess they didn't exactly give it the best crew.

I think I heard somewhere that the show didn't have that great of a budget which is why the fight scenes were basically non-existent. Especially since such highly detailed characters and object are notoriously difficult to animate which is why such characters basically never move when talking and don't emote much beyond facial expressions.

Of course, it absolutely can be done. Just see One-Punch Man, also done by Studio Madhouse.

Which was done on a normal anime budget so in the end it’s all on the people working on the show.

Guess a lot of factors like time & not having the right people led to The Animated Series having nonexistent fight-scenes.

Huh they could always try to use the studio working on Netflix’s Castlevania show, that show has some pretty bombing fight-scenes.

The same studio that does the castlevaniaanimated series also worked on The Fairly Oddparents.

Real talk though; MAPPA would be perfect for a DMC anime, outside of Madhouse's A team.

Just look at these fights and try telling me they don't scream "Devil May Cry":

From what I understand, a great deal of the talent recently left Madhouse to form a new studio, too. So future endeavors from Madhouse may dip in quality. Might be why they went with Middle Management Blues, now that I think about it. Virtually no action and the whole thing is carried by the narrator.
