Fan-Fiction and Trope Pages

Bumping this thread again, because it's relevant (to me, at least):

hooray for triplepost, but: I also think we need a "How To Write A Troper Works Page" page, including "We're interested in the list of tropes, not every scrap of info you care to dump about the world" and "Write like it's a real work because it is" and "Try to avoid 'I' and This Troper just like in non-Troper work pages".

How about building such a page in the "So You Want To..." namespace? It wouldn't have to be that long.

I'm bumping this because there are still numerous Troper Works in the Troper Works namespace, which is leading to people still creating works in that namespace because they're following the set example. Perhaps we should change the description to indicate that no new pages are to use that namespace?

Okay, I didn't realize this move was going on; I tried to edit the Negima Thread Ideas page, but got a message that the namespace was closed. Does this mean that the page is already moved, or is it simply uneditable until everything is moved?

If it isn't moved yet, how would I go about putting it in the proper namespace? (And what would the proper namespace be? It's currently catalogued under "other").

There's a lot of material on that page and everybody who contributed would really hate to see it get lost.

Let's start a Forum Support namespace. Just view the source on that page, copy it, and paste it into ForumSupport.Negima Thread Ideas.

Ironeye, a little later tonight we should have a tool on each one of the existing Troper Works to assign the namespace it should be moved to. As they are marked, a 'bot will periodically come by and move them to the indicated namespace.

Oh good. I was about to start asking around to see if I could get the page for The Massive Multi Fandom RPG moved to the Roleplay namespace, but it seems the admins are already working on something. Thanks, Admins!

The tool seems to only hit those pages with "TroperWorks" as the namespace—it missed one in "Troperworks". For the moment, I'll put such works on my to-do list to be moved manually.

Are you going to do a big "LET MY CREATION LIVE" thing or what?

Just change the url to Troper Works. It is case sensitive.

• Bad Blood: No medium given
• Back To The Future Reloaded Down Under: Doesn't seem to accept a marking; out to be in Darth Wiki as an unpublished work
• Balto Futureshock
• Cracked: It's a list of the Cracked articles written by tropers; currently has nothing beyond the link to the one such article
• Grandia Collective: I don't know which namespace a series of short fiction belongs in
• Odd-Jobbers: I don't know how to classify scripts for an animated series.
• The Princess And The Bard: No medium given
• Space Boyfriend: No medium given
• The Wonderful World Of Wildcat: Medium ambiguous
• The Zombie Experiment: Incredibly incomplete; possible cut list fodder

That didn't work.

That actually reminds me: can we ever get a tool to change the exact name of a page? (ie A way to change the capitalization of the title in the database.) It obviously doesn't matter for the purposes of linking, but it does make the results from our internal search look a bit weird. Also, the inconsistency annoys me. (For an example, due an internal title search for "cloudcuckoo".)

^^ Ive been treating Grandia Collective as "Literature" (since the stories all seem to be prose fiction).

Wonderful World Of Wildcat: claims to be a "subset of the Nation States universe" so... fanfic?

I looked up Nation States, though, and it's no so clear-cut—it seems to be more of a tool than a work of fiction.

Just wanted to note that in the selection tool at the top of the Troperworks pages, the newly created Forum Support namespace isn't included. Just thought I'd point it out.

Uhm...right now, the Troper Works page for We Are Our Avatars has been blanked and the History has been wiped (and the Main is a redirect to the Troper Works-page)...

I do not doubt that you've got things under control, but could you just confirm that you've got the contents of the old page saved somewhere so that it can be inserted in this new page? Just to ease our worries?

This may be handy for finding articles that still need to be moved.

I have attempted to move my Unequally Rational and Emotional Troper Works page to Fan Fics, but the system won't let me to Index it. No matter what do I do, the lower bar will just keep asking me to Index it even after I do it and do it again.
