Anyone remember the Monster Rancher anime? I first saw it when I was young. I saw 2 episodes, the first one being Hare's Trick, and just caught the end of the Ruins' Secret, the one where they first fought Pixie.

And given Murphy's Law of television, when I caught another episode years later, it was Hare's Trick. :P

I really like the show a lot. It was Darker and Edgier than other anime I'd watched, and there was something real about it, moreso than Pokemon and Digimon. I loved those shows and games too, granted, but I related to Monster Rancher more cause it was a game there, too. And Genki wished it were real like I did.

Another thing I loved was the voice acting. Tiger and Holly's voice actors, in particular, were very good. Suezo was funny, Hare and Mocchi were adorable, and Golem as quiet and strong. Genki's voice changed midway through season 2, which made it sound like he hit puberty at the worst possible time, but his new voice actor grew into the role, and by the end of season 2 he had me totally invested in the action. Still missed the first one, though. ^^;

I'm now aware that some stuff was edited out, but it wasn't obvious at all to me when I watched it. And generally they did a good job of it. And even when they did censor stuff, the emotion was there, especially in some of the saddest episodes.

And really, the emotion's what it's about. Don't hear too many people complaining about Pikachu's Goodbye, do you? :P

Only real problem is that it has no boxset. i don't even know who distributed the series...I think that happened with Digimon, too, since both aired on FOX...

Yeah, I did liked it. Mostly because here, the humans actually engaged in the fights. Well, Genki anyway.

I always preferred series were the monsters could talk to the ones were they couldn't, because it did wonders for the characterization and the plot. Especially because the two human main characters were a little bit bland. Genki was just a typical Shonen protagonist and Holly's whole character resolved solely around her missing father

The season after they defeated Muu was somewhat lacking, the General was just kind a boring and his "sending a mook, one after another" became boring quickly. Same goes for the tournament story.

Yeah. I don't think the third season was supposed to have been; most evidence points to it being a Post-Script Season. Least it was dubbed.

I like how they had Colt, the assistant from 2, show up in an episode. :) My first Monster Rancher game was 2 and it made me happy to see her.

Game!Holly wore green while Colt wore red, so i think they combined her and Colt's appearance for the show.

I loved monster rancher, it was probably the first The Anime of the Game where i had actually played the game first... And i better get off that line of thought before i go grab my dusty copy of monster rancher 2.

The show had little in the ways of edits for the time, which was a huge plus for me both now and then when i didn't even realize it. The story was neat, the characters where endearing, the setting was cool and the villains where properly villainous. And how about that theme song? M-m-m-m-monsters rule!

I never think i'll forgive Hey Arnold for replacing it on YTV.

I liked how it didn't follow the games and made its own story. Sometimes I wished the games were more like the show. ^^;

I loved that show...MRA 2 will always be my favorite of the games for a variety of reasons...One of which being that Holly is your adviser.

What was everyone's favorite episode? I can't really pick one at the moment, but I liked the ones where they first fought Pixie. Come to think of it, all the Big Bad Four episodes rocked. Naga's was a Crowning Moment of Awesome for just about everyone.

I barely remember watching two or three episodes. I've recently picked up an interest again though, if only for the fights.

I'm going to watch this show now just because of this.

^ It was a plot-heavy episode too, which was nice. She was an explorer-archaeologist, exploring some ancient ruins. And Joy the toucan was there, too.

I only saw some of the dub where so much was cut out. Hell, entire arcs were dropped for no readily apparent reason. What were they thinking?

From what I remember, the series actually got really good at some points.

My three favorite episodes that I've seen are Goodbye, Baku, then the two Legend Cup episodes where Mocchi fights Poritoka and Most, respectively. Then again I watch the German dubs, so nothing's cut out. "Goodbye Baku" is probably one of my favorites just because of the amount of Big Friendly Dog in it.

It aired in the US when I was overseas but my aunt sent me somewhat random filmed videos and this was on a few and I loved Monster Rancher for the few episodes I saw which included the episode they defeat Gali, the episode where they find out the phoenix is stuck in a block of Ice and the evil Moo is a giant horned creature that used to be weak to sunlight as well as Pixie combining with Big Blue so she wouldn't die (it was so sad...).

I also remember the episode where they meet the weird duck guy, the episode with the tainted Cat Brothers, the first 4 episodes, the episode with the con-artist snail, and at some point I learned who Tiger's bro was.

I liked it and I wish was able to see the whole series so I could understand it. I especially like that the protagonist actually went out there and fought with the mons, unlike other popular mon anime from the time period.

I adored, and still adore, Monster Rancher—in fact, I'm playing the DS game right now! Hare would be my favorite character in the anime, for whatever reason. I think it was his cleverness aside deceitfulness. Don't see that kind of guy on the heroes' side everyday.

At some point years ago, I believe I found a site that streamed the dub episodes, but used the Japanese theme songs. I'm not used to the Monsters Rule one. I watched a lot of episodes, but can't recall them well enough to decide on a favorite at the moment.

The thing that agitated me the most about the MR anime, and it's relatively minor, was that every Arrowhead was a bad guy.

Monster Rancher 2 was the first MR game I played, and my first monster was a Renocraft, so I have a certain fondness for the Arrowhead family.

I just went to the Japanese Amazon site and they got boxsets of the anime. I don't even know who owns the rights to it in the US now.
