Usually, you have to had sign-uped for the RP beforehand if you wanna make a post in it. If you didn't, then you're intruding and the DM(s) wouldn't be kosher with it.

Is it possible to tell anything about the pronunciation of a Chinese character just by looking at it? For some characters, you can think "hmm, this character 奶 looks a lot like 乃 (nǎi), so it might be nǎi too" and be correct. But is this reliable? Is there anything else to guess pronunciation?

That's Radicals. And the answer is "only sometimes". Having the Mouth Radical makes it more likely.

From what I've read
There are different categories of Kanji (both in China and Japan). Majority can be intuited by its components, if you've seen a part in words with similar pronouncation, it pronouncation is very likely be present in an unknown kanji also. Likely, because there are still a lot that disregard its components entirely and act as own words.
