Because all of the other medium-specific subforums are doing it...

Basically, an all around A&M thread, for whichever purpose it might be needed, suggestions, discussions that don't fit anywhere else, etc.

Currently hunting down the English dub of Ghost In The Shell Standalone Complex, since everyone recommends it.

Darker Than Black is proving to be a little bit disappointing.

Haibane Renmei looks sorta good. Only watched 2 episodes

I haven't watched anime in quite some time and don't really have an intention of picking anything up.

And for your torrent needs, there's always Baka BT. It has a dual audio GITS one. IIRC, the audio quality isn't superb though, but I think it gets better later.

I've just started watching Bubblegum Crisis because of a liveblog. I wouldn't have looked twice at it otherwise (the 80s aesthetic is a big turn-off), but this running commentary is just so awesome that I couldn't help it.

I'm still not sure whether I actually like this show yet.

Finally getting around to watching The Big O. Pretty cool so far, haven't gotten to any of the Mind Screw yet. Also R. Dorothy Waynewright is awesome.

I'm considering Ghost In The Shell, if anyone can assure me the movie is easier to understand than the accompanying anime series.

Innocence certainly is not easier to understand than the series. The original movie, I don't know. I can't really remember much of it, because I don't like it that much.

So I found GITS. Now gonna watch some Darker Than Black.

Watched a fansub of Summer Wars yesterday at my school's anime club. It was absolutely crazy from start to finish, only getting crazier and crazier until the final stretch. I LOVED it.

Before that, a club-performed MST of Needless. Eve is SUCH an unlikeable bitch. Other than that, it was alright.

Lessee, GitS easy to understand? Hrm. Perhaps. Perhaps not. What didn't you understand about the series?

For Git S the anime is much less confusing than the movies. Though the movies are much prettier.

That's what I was thinking (films are denser after all) so I'm wondering what Ronnie's thinking.

I read somewhere that if you could understand the series, you already had a PHD in psychology or got one while doing so, or something like that.

Really?! Awesome!

I would of thought it would be more philosophy of mind or politics, though.

I found it now- Viewers Are Geniuses. And that says "fully understand", and the degree is sociology. XD

Stand Alone Complex discusses sociology and memes, and if you understood it fully the first time, you either already had a Ph D in sociology, or earned one in the process of puzzling it out.

Yeah, all of that stuff was Hilarious in Hindsight for me once I actually started using the internet later. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the ideas for Chanology and such were indirectly inspired by Laughing Man. Although perhaps they ought to watch again to see what they're doing wrong.

Warning: Side effects of Ghost In The Shell include causing you to start thinking like this (quoting myself from another topic):

(The idea of mature meaning graphic/violent/drinking/swearing etc.) probably comes from the moniker "Mature Content, " meant as "content not suitable for children." Children are, somewhat by definition, not mature (at least froma a biological standpoint). Drinking/cursing, to most people, is not suitable for children. This probably creates an association between 'maturity' and crude behavior.

Expect social analysis dialogue at least this complicated four or five times an episode. This is almost simple compared to some of the conversations the Major has, especially with The Laughing Man.

Hey Jhiday, are you planning on responding to my last post in your Kiddy Grade thread?

If not, I'll stop paying attention to it.

I haven't watched a show produced in the west in... Let's just say "Awhile". Once i found crunchyroll I cancelled my cable subscription and just went on one Archive Binge after anoether. Plus Funimation's releasing tons of it's anime for free on youtube. Makes me wonder why people even bother pirating stuff anymore.

I just watched the Martin Successor Nadesio dub in its entirely, and I can see why it was so popular in Japan. So many likable, quirky characters. I also think in particular that Spike Spencer is a great comic actor.
