That picture you linked is of Wario, not Eggman. (although the game I mentioned earlier does include both characters)

Wario fan's know he's a silly cartoon villain. Eggman's design is even more exaggerated than Wario's. I don't care what Archie Comics did with him. He wasn't meant to be anymore a menacing evil overlord than Marvin the Martian or the Taz the Tasmania Devil.

Sat AM Robotnik was freaking badass. Of course he wasn't designed to go that direction, but Jim Cummings made it work.

Yeah, during the Genesis Era in North America... This was Robotnik

Sure, there was this Robotnik and this Robotnik and currently this Robotnik but everyone preferred the Sat AM version, who is quite rightly the most menacing.

And as for the whole "Cartoony games should never try to be serious". I seem to recall a Mario game that ended in the universe being annihilated after you punch a dude into the sun, another one with the bad guy being dunked in lava and his flesh burning off while his bleached skeleton flails around, and another one with an interdimensional homicidal maniac.

The difference is just that they did it better and didn't try to be Facepalmingly gratuitous about it like with Shadow.

I know, but that's kinda... Sad. I would rather have him live. It's too sad. He kinda deserves to live. I mean, he has had one shitty past. He doesn't deserve to die. And for his game, I kinda liked it. Key word being "kinda"

Of course it was sad, that's the entire point; and it does that much more effectively than anything else Shadow ever appeared in. Remember that telling a good story comes before everything else, including shipping. If Shadow being Killed Off for Real makes the story better, why not leave him dead?

I actually think him surviving made the story better. Think about it. Shadow spent nearly his entire life being a pawn in Gerald's Disproportionate Retribution and not in his right mind. (Its discreetly stated that Gerald had altered Shadow's mind so he would go along with the Colony Drop plan. After realizing that Maria wouldn't have wanted this, he breaks free of the mind altering, helps Sonic stop the Biolizard...and then gets a bridge dropped on him.

Yeah, amnesia isn't exactly original, but I'll take that over the alternative. :/

Not really. I mean Shadow surviving just completely ruined the impact SA2 had. Him coming back left a sour taste in just about everyone's mouths.

Oh and Shadow dieing wasn't Dropped a Bridge on Him, it was a Crowning Moment Of Sadness. A Dying Moment of Heartwarming even.

The thing Dr. Robotnik/Eggman was actually quite fearsome in the Genesis days but now they derailed as a mere side villain who cannot possibly be a threat to Sonic or anyone for that matter. I guess that's I liked SATAM or the early Archie comics, Robotnik was a cruel dictator who needed to be stop and he made you want to hate him so much. Shadow hiself was quite badass from the start but his character got derailed what with the whole angsty Anti Hero thing and it actually didn't real help that they keep bring up his past again and made him darker than he was.

Really now? I think tricking your arch nemesis and his allies into going into an alternate dimension where they stood a good a chance of dying or being trapped there forever while using the effects of Year Inside, Hour Outside to take over the planet to be a very effective reversal of Villain Decay.

Too bad the effects only really came to pass at the very last minute of the story. Even then, it was more of an Ass Pull than anything.

In the genesis era Eggman-Robotnic was an end of every other zone boss. You stomped him and moved on, but that was it. Beat his soldiers, avoid his traps, beat him. Practically every platform arch villain ever.

Storyline wise(the games didn't have much in that area, most games don't) the most threatening thing he did was blow off a piece of the moon with a gun he stole from someone else. Yeah, loony toons blob making terrorist threats against semi realistic human ethnic stereo types. Shadow wasn't the only bad thing about those games. The voice acting was grating, the story was awful, every playable character made of sticks and playdo and the levels were awful. Chao garden was about the only saving grace but you had to play the rest of the games to see it. Glitchy multiplayer modes, worthless cart racing levels, yeah, Shadow happens to be the poster boy for these games.

If someone hates Sonic DX director's cut, Sonic Adventure 2, Adventure 2 Battle, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Rivals, Sonic 360 and the like, chances are they hate Shadow cause he's the game's poster boy.(that and his special attack is ripped off from Get Smart Chaos Control!)

Chaos was the evil unstoppable terrorist oragnization(really they weren't terrorist, they wanted money) until Control rose up to um, control them.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand Chaos Control (A time-space manipulation power) is a reference/rip-off of this... how?

You do realize that it was just a reference to the Chaos Emeralds, which have been in the Sonic Games since the beginning, right?

Chaos was the evil unstoppable terrorist oragnization(really they weren't terrorist, they wanted money) until Control rose up to um, control them.

Under that logic, Chaos Control would actually be a ripoff of, uh, Chaos Control.
