The thing about metal is that it's very broad, I'd recommend starting with the popular stuff, like Metallica, Enter Sandman, for example, or Iron maiden's Phantom of the Opera.
On the other hand, maybe you'd enjoy Heavy Mithril (power metal, most of the time verging on symphonic) more, It seems to be really popular among tropers. Great bands in this subgenre are Rhapsody and Kamelot. Dragonforce is really popular, but you may be overwhelmed by the guitars and underwhelmed by the lyrics, Through The Fire And Flames is their best known song.
But Be warned, Dragonforce is a STUDIO band, they suck live from what I've seen.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"I'm not a metalhead. I'd rather listen to nu metal than death metal any day.
Classic Black Sabbath has them both beat, though.

Anyway. Okay. Listened to bits of that stuff. I don't think I'm a metalhead.
Fanfiction I hate.I will admit that Rock Band is responsible for most of my metal-ducation.
I guess I'd describe myself mainly as a very enthusiastic casual fan. The actual fandom of metal is crazy at times.
Nu-metal, metal, metalcore, death metal, etc, I like them all.
"I can't imagine what Hell will have in store, but I know when I'm there, I won't wander anymore."I consider myself a music fan. I listen to a fair bit of metal, but my selection is quite random. I'm sure any metalhead would find my knowledge of the genre extremely patchy.
Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text-Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffI'm with Charlatan on this. The Rock Band bit and everything.

Overall, Bobby, I'm the same. I happen to listen to a lot of metal, but I like all sorts of music.
"I can't imagine what Hell will have in store, but I know when I'm there, I won't wander anymore."Try: Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name

last.fmAlso, I hesitate to go to live performances of metal bands around here as I hear the Hawthorne Theatre (THEE-AY-TURR) has a reputation for drunken brawls and bodily injury, par excellance.
I'm listening to that Rhapsody thing right now. I like that one a lot, it appeals to me more than most of the other stuff listed.

Fanfiction I hate. The venue I go for shows doesn't serve alcohol. It's pretty nice.
And Hallowed Be Thy Name is one of my favourite songs.
"I can't imagine what Hell will have in store, but I know when I'm there, I won't wander anymore."I laugh at the people who get pissy over Metallica's Napster woes because I'm sure the libraries around have half their albums.
I listen to a lot of metal, but I'm not a metalhead either... in part because I disagree with their labeling of anything as "posseur", but also because I don't like it when my wardrobe is more metal than actual cloth.
I wouldn't mind the metal bits, might add a little to the aromr rating...
yes I consider that when I go clothes shopping.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Metalhead is a media term, I do not call myself a Metalhead.
last.fmHey yeah, this Rhapsody song is bitchin'.
Nor do I
I like metal, but Do not link myself with any social grouping due to it
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"I consider 'official garb' of subcultures to be really stupid when one actually wears it.
I think I shall make a topic about that.
I dress however I feel like. it just happens to be geeky.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"I suppose I should clarify that I rarely feel comfortable in overstylized clothing, 'tis what I meant above.
I couldn't be arsed to dye my hair everyday, for example.
indeed.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Has anyone here heard of Crimson Glory?

Here's some good stuff to begin with, Pannic. Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden
War Pigs by Black Sabbath
Battery by Metallica
The Riddler by Nightwish
Death Metal by Possessed
Peace Sells by Megadeth
I tried to give a little of everything, but there's tons more.
I've got two guns pointed west and a broken compass.
