[nja]Psychic, Ghost, or Fairy.

Two, if you count the Haunter right before Sabrina, but he never actually caught them in a Pokeball.

[up][up]

The fact that they made Rowlet swallow an Everstone (to do Seed Bomb) means they are never gonna let it evolve. It's been said that Decidueye isn't that popular in Japan anyway right?

[up] I did say "if". I already knew about the everstone. The writers could have Rowlet throw up the stone again and let him evolve, or he won't and stay as a Rowlet. I'm not making any predictions. I'm pretty sure many people would have said Ash will never catch a legendary before the latest episode aired.

Does Meltan even count as such if there's more than one and it's everywhere in Pokemon Go?

The fact they let Rowlet just play The Worf Effect to MEOWTH, an opponent they won't let even the Pokemon who don't even battle be degraded by, leaves me worrying about its experience handling.

It is officially considered Mythical.

Meltan is a Mythical Pokemon, the extremely rare ones you most likely get from events. Legendary Pokemon are the much more powerful ones. [nja]

Aren't mythicals just a sub-category of legendary?

I think pre-Gen V they were considered Legendary, like Mew.

[up][up] In America, yes, but Mythical has always been a thing in Japan.

[up] Most likely. Name one other Magical Girl anime on right now that isn't trying to be the next Puella Magi Madoka Magica. tongue

Yeah I did not know Mythical and Legendary Pokemon were different things.

Legendary is stuff like Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres who can be caught through normal in game play, mythical are event only pokemon like meloetta and marshadow.

Rob:

Is that why the girls are dressing up in standard schoolgirl outfits?

Seriously? They're already students that are legit part of a Sentai team! I mean, sure the Ultra Guardians don't really transform, nor do their Ride Pokemon combine, but they hit the basic notes.

Also, the adults did it better.

In other news, maybe Eric Stuart was onto something..

With the recent announcements of Sword and Shield, and Ash having beaten all of the Kahunas, it makes me wonder if the Alolan League is on the way soon in the anime

If they wanted to get Ash to go to the next region, they could still let him win but decline the permanent position because he wants to move to other regions and feels that's how he should improve. If they have to make him lose, have it be a close battle with Professor Kukui

...um...it requires them to be willing to let him win, and after X and Y it's painfully clear they will never do that ever.

That makes me worry, remember the Internet Backdraft that happened before? If he loses again, we might get an even bigger one that could likely tank the series.

I somehow doubt that. The people who actually cared and were hype for a League victory probably dropped the show entirely after XY, especially after seeing what S/M would offer.

At this point, even on the extremely unlikely chance he does win, nobody will care or will just chalk it up to the victory only being due to the backlash from the Kalos League. It won’t have felt properly earned, especially not with the team Ash has in this region.

More or less. They had their time to do it, and missed it.

Now nothing Ash does in terms of the league really matters anymore. They missed the chance for it to mean something completely.

A lot of people caught up in the late XY hype were also people who hadn't followed the anime for over a decade, many of them hadn't watched since Johto or early Hoenn. They thought the anime really changed (as opposed to a lot of others who continued to watch Hoenn, DP, etc.), and didn't know the show was still in the same cycle. Granted most of us did think he would win that time, but oh well. It doesn't really matter now.

SM has also gained a large new fanbase especially on social media due to liking the humor and new animation. The first year of SM was kinda dull but I do think the show picked up lately, the last batch of eps have all been pretty good.

SM has also made the better choice of not hyping up the league much besides some minor references and just focusing on the more spontaneous storylines, in many previous series it was the other way round, having to deal with tons of formulaic filler to get to the hyped up league. I'd feel greatly less ripped off if Ash still didn't win this time round since they've bothered to rectify other elements of him like his star appeal outside goal focus.

[up]Ultra Legends seems to be at a really frenetic pace right now, due to Ultra Adventures being a pretty stagnant season besides the Aether Foundation arc at the beginning (seriously, the only captures that entire season were temporaries). Again it did at least have many fun stories but it was thoroughly episodic, and the writers seem to have just caught on how much catching up they need to do before the series ends in likely half a year.
