A Transformers Thread

I wouldn't worry too much, the franchise hasn't shyed away from becoming suddenly incredibly dark ever since G1.

Trailers frontload all the stupid jokes and thus aren't great indicators of tone by themselves, at least not until more come out.

If the Quintessons are indeed involved, and are remotely typical to how they're usually portrayed, things will almost certainly get dark at some point.

Honestly the trailer made some decisions that made the jokes lamer, like splicing in a completely unrelated "I see that!" From Orion Pax that was clearly from a completely different scene.

We're simply going to have to wait to see how this plays out.

Rocks are a perfectly cromulent weapon.

You can club things with it, crush things with it, break other weapons with it. You can use it at long range, at close range.

I think these Rock robots are onto something.

Y'know when it comes to naturalistic Cybertronian dialogue I feel like Beast Wars struck the right balance between that and still making what they were saying carry weight.

I don't know what else to call that, but the snippets from the Transformers One go a bit too far in sounding contemporary in my opinion. Hopefully they're just the lighthearted moments, and I know this is supposed to be when they were young but I'm not really into how even Megatron sounds so casual, it can make them all come across like they have the same type of personality.

Got another one from Chris, just posted a few hours ago. This time, he does a breakdown of the Transformers One trailer.

He didn't have much to say about the humour, instead choosing to focus on all the references within the series. With 40 years of stuff to choose from, there's quite a lot.

Sorry, skipped the last couple pages. As for the movie trailer, I get that the "kid-appeal yellow character" is a franchise staple, but did they have to add Bumblebee into Prime's origin story when Dion already exists, and is basically a blank slate to use?

Also, the faces make it look like they're going for the style of... Prime? What continuity is this?

I don't think it's "in-continuity" with any particular series and it's just doing its own thing.

On a larger spectrum, it's part of the Movieverse continuity family, but it's probably not going to be canon with those films.

Ah, like Hasbro was gonna allow a TF movie to launch without Bumblebee.

You can bet your ass his presence is an executive mandate.

Writer: "We'll make it an origin story for Optimus and Megatron"

Hasbro Exec "And Bumblebee!"

Writer: "Well we were gonna include Dion"

Exec: "That's just a really weird way to spell Bumblebee. Look you're free to use any of the robots in the franchise who are yellow with black detailing and whose names end in the syllable "Bee"."

I mean, Hasbro also asked Daniel Warren Johnson to downplay Bumblebee in the new comics.

Johnson then decided to murder Bumblebee in the very first issue (while he was still unconscious at that), but that was all him. They just said they wanted Bumblebee to not be as prominent because they knew people were probably getting tired of him.

So I wouldn't say they aren't willing to leave Bumblebee out.

Also note that Bumblebee spends nearly the entirety of Rise of the Beasts dead as well. He does get revived but only near the end. I suspect they might be trying to wean themselves off him.

I could be wrong though.

Hasbro does not give a shit about the comics to anywhere near the same levels it does the movies and tv shows. Those are the ones who move merch to kids.

Well, that certainly sucks for Bumblebee!

We'll see though. While I fully expect you to be right, I also wouldn't be totally surprised if Bumblebee gets an energon sword through the chest during this adventure, and it's one of the key points in Optimus and Megatron's idealogical split.

Now imagine if they end up killing Bumblebee, but Cliffjumper (if he exists in One) survives.

Cliff will have two victories.

Imagine if if Bee gets shot in the throat or something, and it looks like this is how he loses his voice in this continuity... only to then die from his wounds.

They need Bumblebee to keep the trademark. Can't have another Hot Shot scenario where they need a Bumblebee but lost the rights to the name.

Literally not an issue since both the comic and Earthspark are ongoing.

So since they seem to be planning to use Airachnid in One rather than Blackarachnia, I wondered if they were going to keep him having a classic vehicle mode and a quasi third spider mode, or if they'll go all in on her being a Spider?

Cause if so, they could use the Houston Texas Flying Spider to keep both of her themes intact.

It does seem to be a real type of Spider, and both adults and children can fly (via gliding rather than actually flight of any sort). Just thought that hit me.

It wouldn't surprise me if Optimus and Megatron get some pretty deep moments in the film. The trailer does start with them in lock-up and Megs mad at Optimus for some reason so we'll prolly get an explanation there.

B though might wind up very obnoxious especially with his actor Keegan-Michael Key going full ham and being the most jokey of the 4.

Hasbro created upgraded forms for Megatron and Bumblebee but where as Megatron becoming Galvatron is a regular thing. I think that it is only in the G1 cartoon and G1 Marvel comics that Bumblebee becomes Goldbug, and even in the latter he changes back to Bumblebee later.

<Sunstreaker suddenly walks into the room>

Sunstreaker: "The Star of the show has arrived!''

Exec: ....

Sunstreaker: Check my Masterpiece Toy bitches!◊ Yellow with Black Detailing!

Exec: I don't see no Bee in your name.

Sunstreaker: Pssh! Don't you know my full name? It's Sunstreaker bee!

Exec: Since when?

Sunstreaker: Since now! Put me in the damn movie! I've got the coolest vehicle form in existence, and we all know it! Besides, You already shot Bumblebee in the face!

Exec: ......we'll think about it.

Sunstreaker: Damn well better. I'm tired of Sideswipe getting in my face over being used more. Even painted himself Blue and acted like a nerd one time.

They could always make Sunstreaker orange if the black and yellow is the issue.
