Your answer reminds of Path of Exile, to be honest. You start as a no-name exile beating up zombies with a stick you literally picked up from the ground, and by the second half of the game you've slain an entire pantheon of deities while wearing ancient, extremely powerful relics. The endgame has you go to other worlds and beat up their deities, deal with at least three different extradimensional invaders, and eventually stop an age-old war between a world-shaping entity and its eldritch nemesis.
Granted, the gameplay itself doesn't reflect the massive power level jump very well (unless you're playing one of the stupider builds
), but the feeling is still there to an extent.

And @AF, I see. In a way, tho with unlimited CPU, unlimited RAM, unlimited whatever, you can simulate billions of polygon-having models with near infinite damage possibilities and having billions to trillions of goons doing stuff on screen at once.
I was thinking of progression being, start off on Earth, then go around the world, grow powerful, go to space, take on the Solar System, then the Galaxy, then the Universe... yeah.
At this point, it feels less like an FPS — and more of a First Person Epic Action Game.
